Another example of how big tech is just corrupted to the core.

Actually sounds like a good book to read!

Amazon is not refusing to carry it. The author isn't selling it on Amazon. Pretty big difference.

[–] Daqu@feddit.de 17 points 1 year ago

Amazon will not carry it because he doesn't agree to their terms.

Using that as clickbait lowers my opinion of his work.

Yes. But more interesting and relevant than a Pepsi ad

I don't use an adblocker for more interesting ads

Poetry, man. So true.

Ordered! I love reading his books.

Enshittification is my top word for 2023.

[–] 1984 3 points 1 year ago

Appearently it's also big tech's top word.

But you know, being on Lemmy reminds me of how it once was. We can avoid these fucking leaches and use our own apps and websites.

I will order it too, sounds like a good book honestly.

Uhm, how do I order it?

I can't find a link to buy the book there. I was trying....

It's kind of wonky. You'll need to click the green Back this project button first and then click on a picture of whatever you want to get (ebook, hardcover etc) and then another green Pledge button will appear.

Thanks. Backed it. It seems to currently be at 10x what he needed. :)

I think another word needs to be created or used to describe the process, like "badification"

[–] wmassingham@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Are you trying to enshittify "enshittification"?

[–] mPony@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Best of luck: Cory's not about to change that word now. If you want to try introducing another term it'd better be catchy.

PS: everybody poops.

[–] NoOnesRival@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

You are wrong.

[–] between2boobies@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He's the freaking author... why won't they let him sell it without DRM?

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because their audiobook platform requires DRM. They don't want you to own the audio file. If you owned it, you could take it with you, you could share it, and you could copy it.

[–] between2boobies@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 year ago

Just found out they charge a 75% commission (60% if you sign an exclusive contract with them). Oh, and they get to completely control the pricing. Guess that makes them the real authors.
