That looks like a gang, operates like a gang, and should be kicked off of the turf of any self-respecting gang, imho.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 50 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Honestly where the fuck are the gangbangers in all this? All that talk about fuck the police and how hard they are and all and there hasnt been one incidence of ICE being rolled up on by the westside crips.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago (5 children)

That's because ICE are cowards. Wouldn't be surprised if they're purposefully leaving areas under direct gang control alone.

[–] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They're goal is fear and intimidation. They are going to every area and doing one or two workplace arrrests so that nobody feels safe. They're not actually ready for a coordinated resistance. No cops are actually trained for anything like that.

Until they busted up the state's monopoly on violence

There's like no difference between them and these guys.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

Yes there is, I can see these guys’ eyes.

[–] AcidicBasicGlitch@lemm.ee 22 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

ICEis doesn't look like they would be as agile on the monkey bars. So, checkmate.

Oh so they can breathe through those masks. Isn't it strange how it was difficult for them 4 years ago but now they're totally fine with it.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago

Tbf, the mask is a bigger inconvenience when you're picking up veggies from the food isle than when chasing down migrants while hoping over a couple of fences. Don't your see? The aerodynamic design of the mask will...

Where's the well regulated militia you Americans scream about so loudly when someone suggests not letting a mentally ill child own an assault rifle?

Isn't this exactly the government tyranny that argument is used to defend against?

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I think they’re the same people that are locking up random immigrants

Where's the well regulated militia you Americans scream about

So, one could argue that the well regulated militia in question is constituted by the National Guard, as they nominally are the armed forces of individual States, and can be nationalized under certain circumstances.

Except for the fact that Trump just nationalized the California National Guard when he's nominally not supposed to....

The way the legal system in the US works is just incredible. There are things that are very much illegal, but if the president does them apparently everyone is just fine with it.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

The majority of citizens are not "fine" with it, we are watching the results of the capture of every branch of government.

The template for this actually played out in Texas. Texas has a very weak governors office in terms of formal powers. Under George W Bush the Republican party systematically took control of each state office and coordinated their efforts to effect the agenda of Bush, Perry, and now Abbott.

They are doing the same thing at the federal level with project 2025 under Trump, they took the supreme court, and now they have removed the career civil servants that would refuse illegal orders from Trump.

If history of other dictatorships is any guide the powers of ICE will be expanded steadily and the other law enforcement agencies and military will be continually overshadowed by ICE and eventually subordinated to them, like the Republican guard of Iran or the SS in Nazi Germany.

They're too busy gargling republican boot to bother rising up against the tyranny they've cried about for decades.

To a unnerving amount of people's surprise, they only cared about the power of the state when they thought it was being used improperly (having a tolerant democracy), and are more than happy to see it used the way they want (hurting brown people)

Why aren't masked and armed individuals with weapons and no badges, that make attempts to abduct people, being shot?

[–] Grimtuck@lemmy.world 62 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Because the whole second amendment thing was about carrying a gun in the hope that you get to shoot a black person, a school kid or a teacher.

This is very similar to what the nazi and the soviets did. Removing people under pretext of law with no regard to process or people. It doesn't seem as extreme but the course is definitely clear.

To the troll that keeps regurgitating "illegal aliens" rhetoric. Dressing up with masks and shit doesn't grant one an authority to pick people of the streets. Any "leader" that enables this just wants chaos and doesn't give a fuck about the nation. It's just tyranny under the guise of patriotism. It happened many times before.

I can't wait for the trial about it gunning them down is self defense,

if it is a trump appointed judge, then it will clearly be considered illegal, which mean the whole point of 2nd amendment (defend against a tryranic government is BS)

or reasonable judge, which will determine it is self defence, then let the fun begin.

Eh… homie needs to watch Mad Max again —any of them. But I’ll still give him 2 points for trying to be clever.

Yeah, a reference to Steven Seagal movies would have been more poignant.

I mean, honestly, even without violence, this would be a fantastic protest technique. Imagine if whenever there was an ICE raid, there were hundreds of people dressed indistinguishably from the ICE thugs. Normally this doesn't work at protests. If you put on a fake LAPD uniform, they'll arrest you for impersonating a police officer. But since these thugs aren't in uniform, then you're not impersonating an officer by dressing like them.

"ICE thug" should be the standard uniform for every protester. Watch as their raids collapse into absolute chaos as they can't figure out who is actually on their team. Watch as the police thugs escorting ICE get completely confused as they don't know who to shoot their rubber bullets and tear gas at. Just imagine protesters milling about in active raid scenes, walking in like they own the place, giving contradictory orders to ICE foot soldiers, etc. Hell, the protesters could "detain" many of the people being seized, load them into unmarked vans, drive them a mile away, and then just let them go.

This can be weaponized, all without using actual weapons. Protesters could dress up like these ICE thugs and completely destroy their operations. ICE have forgotten that cops wear uniforms not just to protect the public, but also so that cops can tell who is actually a police officer.

It's time ICE learned exactly why police wear uniforms. By not wearing uniforms, they've made themselves comically vulnerable to mass disruption by nonviolent protesters. They've completely destroyed their own chain of command, and they are vulnerable.

Yeah, what's happening definitely requires exercising second amendment rights. And yet Americans are still mostly mum. Dumbing down Americans by the oligarchs paid off I guess.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I feel safe in my house, but I didn't reacquire my concealed carry permit when I moved states, mostly because I almost never carried in all the years I had it.

I really need to get off my ass and complete the requirements in this new state and get that permit.

Isn't it the job of the opposition party at this point to propose legislation that outlaws this practice? To run candidates on a platform of reigning in these abuses? To run ads with scary music saying how the government is infringing on liberties etc?

Rural Republicans already fear three letter federal agencies: BLM, ATF, etc. Play to their fears, this very low hanging fruit, Democrats.

If someone comes and tries to take you or those around you, defend yourself.

Get a handgun, get a CCW and learn how to defend those you love.

There are more of you than them.
