None of these things are stigmatized though. Well maybe oil companies a little bit, but barely.

I'd like to more broadly shame driving, rather than just big cars. A lot more folks could use public transit but choose not to

For the vast majority of amerikkka though public transport either sucks really bad or is entirely nonexistent. Believe me if taking a train to get somewhere was an option I'd do it. And the closest store to me is a Dollar General that's a mile away along a 45 mph road with no sidewalks.

Generally if you are able-bodied, just bike to work, don't eat meat, don't use generative AI and don't do crypto. It's not that hard.

just bike to work

yeah i'll just ride my bike on the 45mph road with less than 6 inches of paved shoulder. that's smart and safe. sick bait post.

It definitely isn't possible for everyone. But there's lots of places even in the US where biking is possible yet most people still drive.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

lots of places

is doing a lot of heavy lifting. the average commute is 20 miles. there's very little cycling infrastructure. no snow clearing of infrastructure if it exists, most jobs don't have facilities for you to shower after you've biked 10+ miles in hot weather.

most people don't bike because they can't, because they'd die, because they'd get fired. because there's no parking. I have biked to work at one job in one place i lived where it was possible and reasonably safe to do so and i had a place to lock the bike where it wouldn't be stolen.

Infrastructure first, then you can shame a population for the non-choice they don't make.

People won't choke and die on carbon though. The governor lady said "I'm sending in more datacenters!"
