Back in my day kids only had two biological parents to disappoint them.

DNA from three people: the two biological parents plus a third person who supplies healthy mitochondrial DNA. The babies were born to mothers who carry genes for mitochondrial diseases and risked passing on severe disorders. The eight babies are healthy, say the researchers behind the trial.

That's gonna mess up how we trace ancestry.

Instead of a family tree, you have a flux capacitor.

"Hi, I want to introduce you to my mom, my dad, and my Tim."

In Irish mythology, men with great destinies like Lugaid Riab nDerg (and by some tellings Cú Chulainn) are conceived of three fathers.

Lugaid's mother seduced triplets Bres, Nár and Lothar to hedge her bets in case 1 or 2 died in battle. He was born with a horizontal red stripe across his hips and another across his chest showing he was ⅓ from each.

Really hope we can have this for polyamorous relationships soon. Powers of two are more convenient though :

4 people make 2 "fictitious ancestor" cells, which are induced into meiosis. The resulting gametes are assembled, and here you go ! A child that is genetically related to all 4 parents (who are technically their grandparents)

I don't think eugenics can be prevented by preventing scientific progress. It's an ideological problem, just like nuclear bombs.

I completely forgot that Holden was part of that commune of, what, eight mothers?
