I'm getting memes and Linux, don't want porn in this feed so disabled it.

And I'm not going to enable politics... :)

Why don't you go and read scientific papers if you are not interested in opinions and claims?

Humans beings like to exchange ideas and experiences with eachother without being forced to show scientific evidence. Maybe you don't, which is fine, but maybe not tell others what to discuss then?

This is not a scientific journal, if you haven't noticed and picked the wrong url...

It's because people have been using these products since childhood and they don't think about it anymore.

I agree with you personally. I don't use any products and my skin smells very good. And first thing people say when I say that is "people don't tell me I smell bad", because they can't imagine that someone can actually smell good without using any products.

Showering.

Thanks.

It's not meaningless. Some peoples brain work in a completely different way than the majority, and why should we ignore that? It's very important knowledge to figure out things.

It's not like it's a tiny scale of small differences between people. It's more like 99% being quite similar and then 1% being completely different. That is very significant. Numbers are made up to make a point.

It's almost like saying let's not study sociopaths because they are just like everyone else. They aren't.

Nostalgia.... It was fun to watch that thing move blocks around.

No light is not natural for humans... I feel like I'm missing out on life for four-five months every year. November to March is awful.

PWM at 120 Hz, good luck with your eyes...

I know not everyone is sensitive to it but for the ones who are, it's a major problem. Pain in eyes, headaches, blurry vision, and probably does real damage to the eyes.

Looks ok for a showcase but when doing real work, you usually need tabbed terminals and splits, along with a web browser...

But sure, unixporn is not pictures of people using their computer for work. :)

Guess they were looking for sociopaths for that position.

Please share the company name.

[–] 1984 5 points 3 weeks ago

I've had them try that and I just laughed and said no.

Seems like an American thing to completely overdo the process. We have interviews i Europe too, but they are not insane and you don't have to have algorithm knowledge to be a programmer in most companies.

If you are talking about big tech, sure, they are inventing ways to find the absolute top candidates since they have millions of applications.

Just a few new communities i wanted to spread the word about.

Maybe you are tired of all the tech news and memes and want something spiritual for a change.

Animism

This community is about the belief that spirit is in everything: trees, rocks, places. It is a space for discussing strategies for environmental activism from the perspective that all things have basic rights, from people to animals, to forests to rivers and mountains.

It is about seeking to find deeper gratitude in our lives by understanding that everything is just being what they intend to be.

Thanks!

Its nice to see more and more people talking about Lemmy, and Sync is one of the big reasons I think.

So whatever we think about that pricing, it puts Lemmy on the map like never before, and we should be grateful and happy for that.

Im one of those die hard firefox users and have been using it for over a decade.

It's quite worrying that it relies on Google to exist. This article details the finances behind it, and it's an interesting read.

  • Mozilla have tons of money, and the donations are tiny in comparison to their real revenue stream.

  • 70% of revenue comes from Google, by having Google Search as a default search engine.

  • Its not clear where the revenue is being spent. There are no large costs.

Veilid is “an open-source, peer-to-peer, mobile-first networked application framework, with a flagship secure messaging application named VeilidChat.” Application frameworks of this sort are flexible software packages that can be iterated on and changed by infusing new code into them. Developers who want to create new programs with the same privacy protections will be able to build off of Veilid’s open source structures.

Cult members say their protocol is built from the same digital DNA as the Tor browser and the chat app Signal and will be used to create new ways for folks to communicate, share files, and generally surf the web while simultaneously protecting their privacy. The idea is to offer users an escape from the constant data collection and monetization that undergirds most web interactions (also commonly referred to as “surveillance capitalism”).

Veilid is written in Rust (just like Lemmy btw) and the group will talk about it on the next Defcon conference.

It's quite interesting watching what domains Kagi users are creating personalizations for in the search engine.

You can block, raise, lower or pin selected websites. I noticed that reddit is one of the top raisers because people simply don't find unbiased results otherwise.

If you can read a few paragraphs of this article without wanting to punch someone, congrats.

I'm so sick of Google...

Every image and video result in Brave Search is now served by Brave. Users no longer need to choose between Bing and Google for image and video search.

This is pretty cool, no matter if you like Brave or not. Slowly and surely, many companies are helping to chip away at the monopoly of Google.

Another example of how big tech is just corrupted to the core.

Actually sounds like a good book to read!

Linux going where noone has gone before. :)

This was a good walk-through what the hacker focused on and how he accomplished it.

Is this really true?

What do you guys on Lemmy say? Most of us are tech people so we are more used to being alone with our thoughts perhaps.
