For just Safari the "Roadbock" extension seems to work pretty well.

Neocities (mentioned in the article) is a pretty cool throwback site for making your own simple webpages. I used it for a coding exercise to make my own personal version of a Linktree thing.

Bear blog (link) is also simple and neat for simple un-corporate internet-ing.

Couple random cool stuffs:

  • @FilmNoirPosters@zirk.us (Movie posters from noir films of the 1930s-1950s-ish.)
  • @internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org (Internet Archive's official account. [I'm pretty sure.])
  • @GayOldTime@masto.ai (Random ads/media that celebrate queer-ness either obviously, subtly or unintentionally)
  • @openculture@toot.community (Random cool open source art resources and content)
  • @robotwig@socel.net (Very cool action figure/miniature photography)
  • @LibrarianRA@worldkey.io (Retro ads/media)

I've been using https://raindrop.io/ and it seems to work pretty well. Good for syncing between devices, reading later, etc.

Notesnook is a pretty good service. More of a less clunky Evernote. It's free by default but has paid for options and also very privacy focused.

FreshRSS is cools. The way mamma used to make.

I know what they're going for but yeah it does seem like an iffy move to sign everyone up for a main server. Unless they're letting people get settled and then emailing/encouraging them after a couple weeks/months to change instances?

Problem with that being that most people won't want to move after setting things up in the first place.
