This is about attempts to stop folks from spreading provably wrong info online that's killing people. It's like protecting the free speech of someone yelling "fire" in a crowded theater.

No, you only see federated communities that someone on your instance has subscribed to. So at first there is nothing but you can theoretically see every post by subscribing to every community in every instance.
Its been working well for me with kbin. Over the last week, while the large instances struggled to stay up and federating, my instance constantly had new content coming in from whoever was still up.
This game is really neat. When I checked it out a year or so ago there was a dedicated community playing but I still needed a friend because everyone else was so advanced I wouldn't last more than a few seconds.

Activities are public and easily viewable on kbin. It's been interesting. Seems mostly positive other than people harassing those who down-vote them demanding explanations.
