I'm going to run my first DW game soon. I've never GM'd a TTRPG before, but I've played a few. Most players haven't played TTRPGs, so I like DW for it's simplicity to learn. I'm very comfortable improvising, but I have a bit of prep and would like some feedback on it.

My current idea is to start where all the characters are in a large jail cell. I'll ask the following to set up the world.

  • Where is this jail cell? What's the city name, vibe, etc?
  • Why have each of you been arrested?
  • Who else is in the cell with you?

Then we'll set up bonds and then the adventure will begin. Based on how things go, they'll either have to do a prison break, or fight in a gladiator style arena. I'll have some enemies prepared for those scenarios. For anything else, I will just wing it.

Does this feel like good prep for the session?

I created a GPT to answer DW questions. In my testing it's pretty good about not getting confused with DnD rules (which regular ChatGPT does). I'm organizing my first DW game as a GM and I'm planning to use it to help me out.

Some good prompts for it:

  • How much XP does a character need to level up?
  • How do I resolve damage from multiple NPCs attacking the character?
  • Suggest 3 monsters the party might encounter in an evil wizard's castle
  • Create some stats for a Giant Chihuahua monster

You do need ChatGPT Plus to use it though

I like Dungeon World, but there are some things I don't like. I don't like the damage dice especially. It makes it more like D&D than I want to be.

I have seen mention of some variants, and I checked out the free version of Chasing Adventure which seemed more like what I was looking for.

What are the other Variants people have played, and what are they like?

Dungeon World has a lot of playbooks, official and unofficial. What has your favorite one been to use, and what made it so great?

I went back through the Dungeon World subreddit posts to come up with the top 10 things that people should know when making the switch from D&D 5e

Hi Everyone,

I've copied over the Dungeon World wiki to be accessible completely off of reddit, using Google Drive instead.

Here is the Wiki Front Page

Here is the folder in general

Most of the links on the wiki are external links to other website, so those didn't need to be changed, but any links to a reddit comment or post has had that content copied onto a google doc in that folder, so it should be accessible without visiting Reddit.

When any changes are suggested I'll get a notification and can easily manage it.

Please let me know if anything here needs updating or improving. The intent is to make the significant resources available for Dungeon World easily available outside of reddit.

Thanks!

Hey, I know these kind of things are corny and of an old era of forums and such but I still think it's important to have a good old "welcome" thread at this moment in time :)

Iโ€™m looking for something that works well with a new group.

What is a dungeon starter?

Dungeon Starters are for those times when you want to just sit down and start a game right right away. Just a couple pages long, Dungeon Starters provide a unified flavor. Among other things, they include some simple details, questions, impressions, custom moves, items and services, spells and monsters. Sometimes there is even a map or visual image or two.
