Hi there, I was wondering if there was the possibility in the mr200p max to build without a riser cable. I mean to do as you can in the normal nr200.

Hello world!

I've been working on an SFF NR200P build using a Nitro+ 7900XTX. I managed to make things fit, but after setting up the PSU, my heart sank as I realized I only had 2/3 PCI-E connectors needed. Even though the Toughpower SFX only comes with one cable with two daisy-chained 6+2 connectors, it has room for three connectors...

My first thought on the matter was for this to be an excuse to buy a custom Cable Mod kit and make things look clean, but I was unfortunately met with disappointment as Cable Mod doesn't show any support for the Thermaltake Toughpower SFX; actually, it doesn't even show the SFX at all on the list. This trend continued as I could not find a single mention of 3rd party cables made for my power supply. I only find Thermaltake power-supply cables made for the GF1, GF3, or PF1, even though the SFX is a popular PSU with 3k+ ratings on Amazon.

The only thing I've found at this point is a random Amazon PCI-E cable that mentions support for my PSU, but as I read the reviews, a user said the Pin-outs don't support what they claim. I don't trust this product, even though the reviews are good.

So now to my question: while I know it's not a good idea to run PSU cables not made for your power supply, I need one and can't find anything. From what I can tell, all Thermal take power supplies use the same pin-outs for PCI-E. Can anyone help with this as I'm out of ideas.

tl;dr I'm wondering if the Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 has the same pin-outs as the Toughpower SFX to order A PCI 6+2 cable.

Love the tiny size but the compatibility on their site seems outdated.

  • 6750xt
  • 6950xt
  • 7900xt
  • 7900xtx
  • 4070
  • 4070ti
  • 4080
  • 4090

Can any of these GPUs fit the Velka 3 with mods like a waterblock?

If not how about the Velka 5? Or maybe another super small case.

Im not sure where to start with this. My Optiplex has the i7 4770 CPU and the PCIe I have it is sits right above the power supply, like right above it with some room for air flow but the GPU (RX 6400) sits at 81 degrees so I put a fan in front of it to help it cool. Im considering just adding a few fans to the GPU itself to see if that will help but I'd have to bootleg it to do that and while Im capable of doing that, moving the GPU elsewhere with a raiser may be better without voiding warranty.

I could just move the PSU outside the case but I want it as seamless as possible, I just dont know where to look. Thank you much!

Greetings SFF Aficionados,

I'm diving into my inaugural post here, navigating the labyrinthine process of crafting a high-end, yet portable, rig. Given my occupational demands, I'm attempting to strike an elusive balance between performance, thermal management, and SFF constraints.

Context and Present-day Hurdles:

Mobility Constraints: With a multi-regional project pipeline, I need more than a static desktop setup; I require a potent and portable battlestation. Let's not sugarcoat it—we're talking about a system that can pass TSA without a hitch.

Cooling Quandaries: I've raised thermal management concerns, especially when eyeing the AMD Ryzen 7950X3D with its known thermal proclivities.

Component Shortlist: I've hit a quandary with motherboard and chassis selection. An m-ATX board offers latitude for component real estate and could better house a behemoth like the GPU 4090. I'm all ears.

Chassis Dimensions: My insistence on case dimensions—55 x 40 x 21.5 cm—is non-negotiable, thanks to airline carry-on stipulations. This isn't a "nice-to-have"; it's a mission-critical spec.

Suggested Trajectories:

Potential Builds for Scrutiny:

I've been in the trenches with some proposed loadouts, pivoting based on component accessibility and thermal nightmares. Below are the prospective configurations:

SFF Iteration (Sub-15L):

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Raphael AM5
  • Motherboard: ASUS B650E-I ROG Strix Gaming WiFi AMD AM5 Mini-ITX
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 96GB DDR5-5600
  • SSD: Inland Performance Plus 4TB
  • PSU: Cooler Master V1100 1100W
  • GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
  • Cooling: Deepcool LT520 Premium 240mm
  • Chassis: SSUPD Meshroom S PCIe 4.0 Mini-ITX

Now this was previously planned at Micro Center but there were some issues with them who said this build could not work. So I just to keep looking for other solutions. The following is what I’ve seen available at my country, still not being able to pass the TSA test given its just a tad wider than what it should be :

m-ATX Contingency:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D
  • Motherboard: Aorus Micro-ATX B650M Elite AX
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 5600MHz
  • SSD: Kingston 4000GB Fury Renegade
  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090
  • Chassis: Asus Prime AP201
  • PSU: Asus ROG Loki SFX-L 1000W
  • Cooling: ASUS ROG STRIX LC II 280 ARGB

And my most recent chat with the guys at the store (called digital life) who suggested the following, however im not quite sure about it and again, like the build from the meshlicious, even if the case might fit the build its quite more expensive due to the FE (selling for 300 more USD than the other GPU) more expensive and i am a little worried about the cooling:

SFF Plan B:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D
  • Motherboard: Aorus Mini ITX B6501 Ultra
  • RAM: Kingston FURY Renegade DDR5, 6000MHz
  • SSD: Kingston 4000GB Fury Renegade
  • GPU: RTX 4090 Founder Edition
  • Chassis: Lian Li con Ventana Q58X3
  • PSU: Asus Ro Thor 1200W
  • Cooling: Asus Rog Ryujin 11 240

I've been ping-ponging with the storefront techs on these configurations. There are contradictions, like an SFX PSU in the m-ATX loadout but not in the others; this was justified by stock availability. Additionally, a pivot to Intel CPUs was suggested for purported performance gains. For context, I juggle applications that capitalize on both faster single cores and broader core counts.

The crux of the issue lies in casing—existing SFF options appear anemic, and the quest for a mesh case within airline dimensions (21.5 cm width) has proven elusive.

Eagerly awaiting your expert insights. Apologies for the tome; the devil's in the details, as they say.

Best,

Desppar

Looking for suggestions for a quiet'ish, small'ish build. Good quality components (not necessarily the most expensive, just stuff that you would get general a concencus that it's a solid go-to item)

Case - Motherboard - Gpu with 16+gb - Fans -

No specific need for rgb or glass.

Performance/function over asthetics

Quite happy to copy a YouTube/partpicker build if a nice one with similar criteria has been done lately.

My laptop looks to have died so it needs to have better performance than a 3080 laptop.

Thanks for any suggestions or links

Hey all, I'm completely new to building PCs and I'm heading to college soon, so I was thinking about this build. Is this all looking like it'll fit in the Fractal Terra? (P.S. 6800XT is a placeholder, 'm planning to replace it with the 7800XT.)

So due to circumstances at school, I unfortunately had to go with an ITX AM5 board and despite all the warnings went with the strix x670e-i to go with my 7950x3d. Even after downloading all of the required drivers from Asus, Windows, AMD, and Nvidia, Windows tends to crash every 15 minutes or so. Sometimes, it is the blue screen of death, but others, it just shuts off completely without warning. I've updated the BIOS many times and left everything at default.. It does seem like the network card is not working properly, though- there are no wifi or bluetooth options available in windows, and the driver shows an exclamation point beside it. I had to use USB tethering on my phone to get through windows setup.

Some of the BSOD codes I saw was:

memory management

page_fault in nonpaged area

pfn list corrupt

critical process died

ntoskrnl.exe

Do I just have a faulty motherboard? Is there any way I could fix this? Is this fixable by replacing my motherboard, or is this just how bad the asus board is?

Hey! I’m planning a build in the Fractal Terra as I love the ease of use with the case as well as the aesthetics but had a couple of questions regarding compatibility. Im planning on doing the build with a 13900k and a 4090. After watching reviews because the 4090 is takes up a lot of space I have to use a small cpu cooler such as the Noctua NH-12LS. Do you think that would be enough? I plan on undervolting the cpu if needed as well. As anyone put a 13900k in the terra or any computer with a low profile air cooler? If anyone could provide some insight or let me know what they think it would be appreciated

Hi Everyone -

I am using a DAN A4 SFX with an undervolted Inno 3D 4070 Ti. It is snug, but it works great!

Could anyone confirm if the little motherboard standoffs that move the PCIe slot away from the center spine of the case are recommended? I see users with the 30x0 series doing this for the rear intake fan to get a bit more room, but it doesn't seem to be "needed" for the Inno 3D card. Instructions for the 3080 FE for reference to what I did for my 4070 Ti:

Doing this little mod pushes the fans of the 4070 Ti very close to, but not touching, the case panel. I am not sure if this is helping force more cooler air in, or is restricting airflow a bit. Any thoughts from the community?

Thanks!

Hi!

So I built my NR200 couple years ago but left there my old videocard which I want to switch for a new one now.

My build:

Corsair SF750 Platinum

Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

EKWB EK-AIO 240 D-RGB (with 2 Noctua's NF-A 12x25)

I have 2 Arctic P12's installed on the top (exhaust) and 2 on the bottom (intake)

and I have GTX 1060 6GB as of right now...

I want to get 3080 or 3080TI but I am not sure which manufacture should I buy and how do I fit it in, should I buy some fans under the card or just leave it as is? I didn't bother much about temps because of the card I have now but I should with more beefy card but don't have much experience. Any tips?

Thanks!

Looking for an ITX case that will let me travel (by car) with my PC without needing to disconnect the GPU or any other component. Is there a case that would work best for this purpose?

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I have the Asus b650e-i, which only has 1 fan header, the AIO pump header, and the CPU fan header. This is in the Dan C4 SFX

I’m using the Noctua d12l which is plugged into the CPU fan header, and have a be quiet silent wings pro 4 as the side exhaust plugged into the fan header.

I added two Noctua slim 120mms as top intake and connected them and the side exhaust to the fan header using a splitter.

This works, but in Fan Control all these fans are controlled through one fan curve which isn’t really what I want. I’d like the side exhaust to have an independent curve to the two top intake fans which I really only want to run on low speed at all times to bring in a little extra cooling for my 4090.

Question I have is, can I run the two intake fans using the AIO pump header and then run the side exhaust through the fan header? Will that allow me to control them separately in fan control and is there any downside to this?

I’m not super familiar with the difference in the different headers so not sure if this is a viable option or if I have to get a fan controller like a Corsair iCue and run them through that.

Thanks in advance

I have had a Sliger S540 in a box for a very long time and finally decided on a use for it. I plan to repurpose it into an external radiator. The first order of business was removing the inside frame, which was held on with some screws and rivets. The back can easily fit a thick 360 and fans as a ventilation pattern exists. The front will easily fit a thick 360, and fans with a custom bracket, but the front of the case is solid. I want to send it out to get an elegant ventilation pattern cut, but I am having trouble identifying a vendor that will:

  1. Do small one-off projects like this one.
  2. Cut sent material. I keep finding vendors that will create and then cut the part instead of simply creating the pattern in my part.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I bought a Dell Optiplex 7000 earlier this year and have been slowly growing my homelab but my office's temperature has gone up about 6 to 8 degrees. I expected it to rise, but not as much. I've put fans on my 10GbE switches, mini PCs, and got everything cooled down by at least 10 degrees.

However, this Dell Optiplex is the remaining piece and it's a generating massive heat as I have two Intel X550-T2 10GbE network cards. When I used the temperature laser it's surface is about 120 degrees, whereas the CPU area NVMe's are around 95. Other areas are high 80s.

Overall, to give you an idea, I put a thermostat in the corner where that PC is and one in the opposite corner and that corner was 85 degrees whereas the opposite corner was 74!

I'm not much of a hardware guy, and to be honest prior to this "server" I've had mostly laptops. However, I noticed that there isn't any fan at the front of the server. There is a little black box, but I have no idea what that does. I was originally thinking of putting a Noctua fan in there (after making way by organizing the cords a bit; it's all a WIP). But I was curious if I could do something for the NICs... they already have a small heatsink on there, but I don't know if I could just place other heatsinks on there or if I should get some tiny fan (like 40mm) and direct air towards them?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
