Hi guys just wanted to tell people that the new Narwhal 2 app just released and i think it’s very similar to Apollo App. I thought the old Narwhal app was pretty bad(you couldn’t even have the thumbnails on the left), but the new one has a lot of features and you can customize it to look quite similar to AlienBlue/Apollo App.

Getting the thumbnails back on the left side is honestly a life saver, but i’m generally impressed with the amount of options in Narwhal 2.

Give it a try if you miss Apollo and want something similar.

So, I sideloaded Reddit last week, and I realised that I loved Apollo, and not Reddit. I can’t quite believe the difference between the two.

Also, anyone who has sideloaded, are you having issues with auto hide posts. It doesn’t seem to work, the manual button helps, but a lot of posts are still showing, just greyed out(read).

Thanks all.

I guess that cuts down on engagement since I don't want my notifications blown up by reddit

Just before Apollo went dark I created a second profile. Is there anyway to find it? My password app only has my main profile in it, and I can’t remember the user name let alone the password!

So with the demise of Apollo the feature I miss the most was the ability to save videos to your photo roll. That and not using the stock iOS video player instead using its own media player which was great. I don’t need a special video player from any of the new apps post-api changes but is there one damn app out there that can download videos? So many great meme worthy vids from subs like r/discordvideos that I can’t download and share with my couple of buddies since I don’t see any options for em. Did Reddit kill the ability for third party apps left over to download vids too or is there just no desire to bring this feature from the various developers out there. And I know Reddit has the option to download videos but it won’t let you in a lot of places and it’s just as janky as the rest of the app. Are those who wish for a feature like this just screwed?

All I wanted was my own curated feed. I don’t mind ads much. I don’t mind the odd suggestion. But I’m sick of subs I want to avoid always showing up every time because I looked at them. I easily get sucked into reading an r/amitheasshole but I also realize they just make me mad or sad and like junk food, I need to keep it out of reach. Is there a way to block it from my feed? I blocked it from the Old Reddit page but that doesn’t seem to stop it from showing up on the ap. Anyone have a trick they know?

I miss you Apollo XOXOXO

On Apollo I had so many banned and filtered words that I completely forgot how much better it made Reddit.

Words like:

  • Trump
  • Biden
  • MAGA
  • Impeachment
  • Pelosi
  • DeSantis
  • etc

Reddit politics is absolute cancer ran by armies of bots and i can stand to see the bias from either side. Deleting Reddit again…..

The Reddit app is terri-bad. I can’t get over how much I miss Apollo. I refuse to delete the app hoping one day it will come back.

I loved loved Apollo but it wasn't available on Android. So I built a web viewer for myself and used that as a Progressive Web App on Android for a while.

When Apollo went down I uploaded it to Github for everyone to use and posted about it on Lemmy. People praised it and multiple people started using it. I recently checked the stats and there were thousands of page views per day. So I thought I should share it here too.

if you want to try it use this link - r d x for Reddit!

It copies some of the best features of Apollo like the subreddit switcher, imgur, giphy native video support etc but you can't log in and post.

You can add it to your homescreen for an app like experience. Please share your feedback if you do use it.

Fells like half a year but it’s only been like 2 months I think I haven’t checked. I am currently writing this from the original Reddit app for two reasons 1 I haven’t jailbroken my phone and I’m to lazy to 2 so Reddit knows I’m posting about the better app.i hope your doing good Christian and fly high Apollo

Its so weird. Since Apollo was taken from us, I miss browsing Reddit almost every day, I feel not as informed as I used to and I miss all the communities I was subscribed to. However, I just cannot use the App or the website on a regular basis, because I never did. The only way I was browsing Reddit was via Apollo. And ever since I am forced to use the Reddit App or the website, it just feels like a bad imitation of what I was used to.

Apollo was Reddit for me. And since that is gone, Reddit is gone for me as well.

Hi everyone, I am the developer of OpenRed, a new free iOS app for reddit. If you are looking for a replacement of your old favorite, give OpenRed a try. It takes many design cues from Apollo and although not as mature or refined (yet) I think you'll really like it. As the title says, the app uses no API calls so it does not interfere with the recent changes to reddit's third party app policies.

You can download or read more about it on the App Store. Your feedback is invaluable to me. If you like it, dislike it or have any feature requests, please let me know here in the comments. Thanks!

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but it's actually shocking how bad the official offerings are. There is no evidence Reddit even has a UX team.

I knew we had it good with apollo, but didn't realize how much bad UI impacts my scrolling enjoyment. What even is the intended way to follow a commenting conversation? Following the lines down like a architectural drafter? Are you kidding?

I’ve sideloaded Apollo with AltStore via one of the guides here, but I want to upgrade to iOS 17. Will I be able to reinstall Apollo? Or will it even be necessary in the first place?

I miss Apollo each and every day, literally what the actual fuck. Didn’t the App Store used to be about making things more accessible? Did we just come full circle where now it’s first party or nothing at all. Like what in the actual fuck is going on.

Edit: I’m fully aware of everything I just can’t go a day without being not only furious but just baffled that an API move like they did… happened. Have a good night/morning/day

I just saw some other app come back with a reasonable subscription model ($5 for unlimited API calls). I remember Christian explained that it won't be a feasible/affordable option and I was wondering if something has changed since then?

I really miss Apollo and would cancel my Netflix subscription to get Apollo subscription lol! I wasn't able to access any subreddit since morning because OEM reddit app is garbage.
