I've tried lawnchair and kvaesito. Lawnchair was good feature-wise but it is really glitchy and would break a ton of times. Kvaesito is not a traditional launcher but rather search-based which is not my thing. I've also heard about Niagara but I haven't tried it and it's also closed-source so I don't really want to use it. Are there any up-to-date open source launchers with a decent amount of features other than the ones I've mentioned?

Two days ago, l had downloaded the inviziblepro app from playstore for private and anonymous viewing. l also have proton vpn. Obviously l'm disconnecting my proton vpn while using inviziblepro.

But the only thing that happened when inviziblepro is on is that my internet is stopping altogether. The moment l am stopping inviziblepro, my device is doing its normal functions once again.

It gave me such a tough time that I uninstalled it finally.

Is the app meant to take complete control of your phone ?

I'm not sure about the exact issues that seem to have caused a rift in the project, but I generally think forks are good for FOSS development.

So far I've tried Metrolist, Outertune and Kreate, and none of them can.

I assume this is a limitation somehow, but asking here just in case there is an app that can.

Edit: I've looked at this open source music streaming list and tried SimpMusic. And hey presto it can do what I wanted to do.

The issue for me with Metrolist and Outertune is that it can only do local playlist that can be synced to my YT Music account. It could mean that say if I save my "MUsiiic" playlist from YTM as a local playlist, then enable sync to YTM, it would create double playlist.

I assume SimpMusic does the same somehow but it looks like I "turn on" save to local and sync it back to YTM. I checked and it didn't make duplicate playlist.

Edit 2025-05-28: One flaw -- not a giant one, but is making me look again -- that I found is that the sleep timer cannot do "end of song". So close to perfection, but this is a feature I use a lot. I'll have to look into their issues and see if someone already asked for it or not.

We haven't had a must-have app thread in quite a while, and since mobile ecosystem moves so fast, thought it might be a good idea to see what people are using these days and consider their must have apps.

So I decided to solve this problem the best way I know – by building a simple Android app to help track my loans and borrowings, with reminders so I don't forget again.

I made it with kotlin multiplatform. So the iOS app is also there but i don't think paying 100 USD per year for a hobby project like this is worth it. May be if enough people are interested, i will think about releasing it in the app store.

I've been using Spark email for my casual email accounts and Nine (9folders) for my work related email, including a personal work facing/professional email and an email provided by my employer.

I'm looking to consolidate to just use one app and why not FOSS. But if you somehow think there's a better non FOSS I don't mind.

What I liked about Spark that I don't think is true anymore, is that it used to try and be a replacement of Inbox when Google decided to kill it. So I'd say that I like how Inbox 99.99% of the time categorized incoming emails automatically for me into separate inboxes or folders I suppose.

Admittedly it's better for me to cull the newsletters and promos I got but I'll Get There Eventually ™️

For what I like of Nine though, I honestly not sure anymore. I guess it was for Exchange as that's what I was given by the client for a project before, and what my employer used to use. Otherwise it's just momentum because I paid for it years ago.

Edit 2025-04-13: I'm going to try K-9 Mail. It just looks better than FairEmail, I'm sorry lol

Edit 2025-05-16: I am using Thunderbird for my work emails and surprise, FairEmail for my personal and collected junk emails.

Thunderbird is nice because I set up all my work emails on the desktop first and can easily share the setup on mobile just by mere QR. Amazing!

FairEmail for now I'm using with 1 collected junk email. Despite the less pretty look, and yeah the settings really need a bit of going over for more "normie" feel / experience — I like how it reformats the email to be as boring as it can for newsletters and marketing. Great!

Hey all, I've been looking for an app to replace Flatastic as it's a convenient way to track shared expenses, shopping lists, chores and notes. However, it has ads and basic features locked behind a SaaS model. Ideally such a replacement would be free and open source, but as long as it works and doesn't sell my data, I'd buy something for a few euros. Suggestions are appreciated!

I wanted to play SuperTux the platforming game, but it doesn't seem to be on the play store anymore. I had downloaded it before, but it's also not in my previously downloaded apps. I can't find an apk on their github and there's only a link to the play store on their page. Does anyone know where can I find an official apk?

There are lots of apps that can export messages to HTML and other formats, but after doing some searching I didn’t find any for markdown. I know SMS are mostly text but markdown is a plain text file format which support text formats like bullets, headings, and media (usually by referencing image, video, or audio files in the same folder or in a sub-folder). That would be nice for reading and searching through in apps like Obsidian.

Any simple (preferably open source) app to convert a few images into a looping GIF?

I've been looking for an app that will let me write down a bunch of short ideas/phrases and move them around easily. Something like scribbling on postits and sorting into piles, ordering and rearranging them.

So far I've found lots of task list / to do type apps that I can make lists and move things about in one axis. Or mind map type apps for building specific webs. But I've not come across something quick and easy to freeform engage with my brainstorming. Any suggestions?
