Have you checked the official website of WhatsApp? You can only restore local backups if you are on older Android versions. On newer Androids it is only Google backup.

https://faq.whatsapp.com/6181521285295518/?helpref=hc_fnav&cms_platform=android Nowhere will you find reference to local backup other than this. And my experience confirms it.

You might have succeeded because you and I might have been part of A/B testing but this is going to be the future.

I think they do create a local backup for uploading to Google but do not restore from local backup.

[-] voracread@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

No it does not do it now. Only option is cloud restore. I have done it last week.

Volume Control (Simple volume control application without unnecessary features) https://f-droid.org/packages/com.punksta.apps.volumecontrol/

[-] voracread@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

How did you use it? They no longer allow restoring from local backup AFAIK?

They no longer allow local backup.

In my case it is just for the present session. At least let me play Solitaire while the updates are running. And I always shutdown at the end of my day or end of updates hence uptime is not an issue for me.

I use PCLinuxOS as my primary Linux OS. They are a bit conservative to adapt new updates until they are sure of stability because of rolling nature. KDE is still at 5 there. Heard about Neon and wanted to try KDE 6. I find that they have adopted Windows style approach to updates where we need to reboot to apply the updates and we cannot do anything on the system while the updates are processing. Recently managed to install Fedora because I heard that their EFI is secured or something and can survive clobbering by Windows updates in a dual boot setup. But they also seem to have gone with offline updates.

Are offline updates necessary due to them using SystemD or is the Linux world in general moving in this direction?

I am not getting anything on selecting share as file for images. If I select download, it just says operation completed successfully but I don't know where it went actually.

1.12-xxxxxpre version of Raccoon.

I dual boot Windows 10 and Linux. Whnever Windows freezes or boot gets interrupted etc. I lose access to Linux because UEFI offers only Windows as boot options. On checking EFI partition still has rEFInd and PCLinuxOS entries needed.

I wonder why it cannot see them?

I believe it is still better due to raw material availability?

In the KDE store I find only one analog clock widget with day or night colour theme choices. There is one other strange steampunk or something such clock design.

Is it very difficult to design such widgets or nobody uses an analog clock?

Can I without knowledge of programming take the existing clock (called Community Design) and modify it easily? If yes, what is the method?

Presently when we open an image we get 2 options at the top. Either download or share. Share produces a link to share the image.

Can we have options to (a) share the link (b) share the image itself (c) share both? I am not sure if the last one is even possible!

Make sure that you are seeding random blocks instead of serial. That way peers who have a different block will exchange among themselves rather than waiting for you to provide each and every piece.

I am looking for a way to delete 1000s of SMS from my service provider pertaining to calls with zero charge. However there will also be some important messages from the same sender. So I cannot delete the whole conversation.

The best option I have seen so far is SMS Organiser but it limits me to only 25 messages at a time.

Is there any other SMS app that can let me do this in one go?

Earlier it used to be thus for random links but almost any YouTube link in WhatsApp if clicked leads to the playback happening in a small minimised window at the bottom with the main window almost blank under it. I can pull the video up to the top where it will play in portrait mode but won't rotate to landscape. No comment section seen. YouTube links open in minimised fashion

NSFW pictures are by default hidden/blurred for me now. In case I take a peek at one, then there seems to be no option to make it hidden again to prevent accidental embarassment. May be there is a way to do it in future?

[-] voracread@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

Why? This is like some authoritarian clause in a new law being introduced with a reassurance that it will only be used for national security purpose. I feel the author is correct until more explanation is given. Even then it does not look good to me.

I had a tile with which I could open a TV remote on my phone and control local nerwork Android TV.

Suddenly I am no longer seeing that tile. There is an called Google TV which has an option to display the remote but it is too cumbersome.

Do you know a way to restore the tile to the pull down options?

I am using Motorola G82 5G Android 12.
