I'm seriously thinking about skipping health insurance another year to help with saving. Do you think that will be more expensive in the long run? I don't have any major health problems, but I also haven't visited a general practitioner in like a decade so there could be something hiding. Every decision is such a huge gamble in this fucking country. I hate it here but my job and degree aren't in demand internationally, and I'm not willing to marry an internet stranger overseas (I'm already taken anyways) so if I can't leave the country I can at least move to a state that chuds aren't swarming to with each passing year.

(This isn't because Harris lost, I'm not a fucking lib. It's because the abortion amendment failed despite 57% approval. I'm just an object here. I've actually been planning it out for a couple of years now, but this was the final straw.)

Hey y'all, looking for this article that was titled something like "Bernie couldn't have won" or "Bernie was always going to lose". Basically a structural analysis of why the media would always have ultimately sided with Trump etc. I'm actually looking for it mainly because it had a great comparison pic between rallies when he was running for the nomination versus when he started campaigning for Biden.

If you have it, thanks!

As a resident of a vassal state I'm locked in a bubble of naïve liberal media coverage treating Democrats as the left. I realised that despite how evident it is for everyone here that the Dems have become increasingly rightwing with Biden and Harris, I've never found a source that bothered demonstrating it by compiling evidence.

Of course search engines are being completely useless at this, just shoveling endless trash from British and US corporate media

When people are looking for friends. Someone told me it was rude that a person I just met left after 20 minutes. They say at an hour is courteous unless something horrific happens.

(It may be worth noting that I look female, this person is male, and we exchanged contact info before I mentioned my boyfriend later in the conversation.)

It's been several days and no contact.

Is there any veracity to the claim that “the PSL covered up SA allegations”? I hear it from people a lot. I wanna know if this is a valid concern.

(Only the first 3:30 is relevant)

My summary of the video:

  • A Harris presidency will allow the empire to continue to function smoothly. As a result, more harm will be caused towards the global south.
  • A Trump presidency will cause less harm outside the US solely because Trump is incompetent and surround himself with incompetent people. However, life will be worse within the US due to the empire being dysfunctional, also the conservative social policies.
  • So for the lives of Americans, Harris is better.
  • For everyone else, Trump is better.

I'm asking because I don't recall seeing a lot of people with this take and this has been my take for years.

I should clarify that I am from the global south. And I don't agree with everything in the video, in particular the part where he said Americans should suffer because of the suffering the US brought to its victims. I don't see the vast majority of Americans having any control on its foreign policy, so I don't think they should be punished for it. Also, I know it's 100% hitler vs 100% hitler, both are equally bad, I agree, just that they are slightly different variants of hitlers.

Note: I'm not arguing that you should vote for Trump, hell no. If I'm an American(I am not), I would either not vote or vote PSL. This take is about the effect of one or the other getting elected.

I recently moved into a new place & have somehow managed to finally admit to myself that if I hang the 3 framed Frank Ocean posters, a framed Bernie Sanders print (arguably shouldn't since its the 'We All Deserve a Future' one from 2016 and he clearly does not think anyone in Gaza deserves one...), the damn Chapo Pizzagate poster they did back in 2017, and a fucking framed Dream of the Fisherman's Wife ukiyo-e (it was a CHRISTMAS GIFT FROM MY SISTER) on my wall - the next person I invite over to hang out and/or have sex with me is going to leave with the impression that I am your average /r/malelivingspace poster or worse.

And yes, for what it is worth, I do have an equal/greater number of actual pictures taken of me, my friends, and family that are already hung up but I'm not getting a 18x24 canvas of my siblings and I at an amusement park when an 8x10 of the same photo is already arguably too big. So yeah, looking mainly for larger wall-art/posters/etc but it doesn't have to be. It can be as small as a 5x7, provided it is actually worth getting printed/framed.

Public domain/stuff I wouldn't be stealing out of the pockets of a living artist if I printed it myself is preferred - but if you have a suggestion that is actually being sold by someone, feel free to suggest it I'm not adverse to spending money on wall decorations/art.

See comment below for some examples of the kind of public domain/etc stuff I've found and put into the Maybe pile thus far.

Thanks for your service.

FIRSTLY, YES, I posted this yesterday. I might just keep posting it til I find it. The lack of results made me think I had imagined it, but then I asked my partner, and she said she definitely remembers me showing her the image.

Here's the original post:

I remember seeing a photo of a number of high profile American journalists recreating a photo, themselves posing as either dead bodies (in Iraq?) or hostages, in a big group photo.

It really stuck with me. I am sure something like this happened. I am sure someone on hexbear showed me it. I now can't find it.

Help! I've tried everything I can think of. I even asked ChatGPT (which was useless, of course).

Many thanks

THINGS IT WASN'T, THAT HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED ALREADY, that were much appreciated nevertheless:

"Was it this? https://www.behance.net/gallery/1245693/In-The-Playroom

"Are you thinking of the pictures at Abu Ghraib where the one female soldier was giving the thumbs up?"

FINAL NOTE:

Is there any way to search through your hexbear notifications? It could be in there if I could search it.

hey, do we have any Foundation guys here, dudes or non dude guys who know stuff about foundations? like how bad does this look

There wasn't any noticeable shifting on the floors inside. The realtor used a phone app as a level but I'm pretty sure that's real iffy as an accurate measuring device.

the big crack on the corner by the exposed cables is on a side of the house near a large tree on the neighboring property

the realtor thought the shifting in the foundation was caused by the drain (covered by leaves in one of the pics) dumping water straight down, but when I looked at it again I noticed concrete that was poured under the gutter, probably intended to slant away and divert it into a little ditch leading to the street

so I'm thinking the shifting in the foundation predates the drainage issue and was maybe caused by the tree? I didn't see any big roots TOO close but, idk

this house is kind of small (smaller than our apartment) but it's in a bourgie cracker restaurant neighborhood, or close enough to walk to it, so I imagine the ol' housing-as-commodities we got going on means it will constantly increase in value as long

but idk if something like this means it's like totally fucked because we can't really afford to buy this place AND put tens of thousands of dollars into some foundation repair bullshit

p.s. side note it has a really nice neighborhood, neighbor across the street has a FREE SEED LIBRARY! and a COMMUNITY PLANT EXCHANGE! that's amazing, the neighbor on the side grows peppers and idk what else in above ground containers, looks like spicy shit too. The other neighbor is a soccer fan but nothing can be perfect right?

p.p.s. the realtor kept speaking of insane plans to expand the bathroom but it also has a very large attic that like imo if finished could add like A Bunch of Value to the house? so, idk, it might be a good idea???

it's so hard to decide because it's so much money and contracts and like what if the foundation is totally fucked??? I guess the owner was a contractor and he checked it out when he bought it, but it's been a rental property since 2007. The HVAC also looks old.

but if we take too long to decide, someone might just buy it up because like why not it's in this great location! who cares if the foundations is fucked if you have a million dollars to spend fixing it!

I had a dream that I planted the most delicious fruit(some kind of spikey lychee) but it got so big I couldn't reach high enough to harvest it. I felt an immense amount of guilt. The lack of control over my responsibility. Fruitflies galore from unmanaged fruit. Being punished for it somehow because my family punished me over nonsensical things, simply for the joy of of abusing and controlling me. To the point I was trained to automatically control myself without them needing to punish me anymore.

I had to keep the entire house so neat and tidy that it made me want to scream everyday. Or else punishment for not being a good servant. I wasn't allowed hobbies, and if they let me do anything I liked, it was to keep me more on edge because they would go "see you can't handle this. Now we're taking it away forever. You will never be allowed again. Also you're being punished for not keeping a picture perfect job at this thing we gave you the PRIVILEGE of doing!"

I think this is about my need to escape my old programming. I love the idea of planting fruit trees. However I can't get over fear of lack of control over how big and fruitful they may get. I would like to stop feeling guilty. I love plants and homegrown food and I'd like to let go of control over how big plants can get. And let go of the possibility of some excess rotting food. Just let it happen, you know?

I think I read on here once that Israel supports Nazi groups in the West with the idea being to make Israel the "only safe country for Jews". Is this true? Does anyone have any sources or info on this?

I’m thinking of learning it

I use PHP for work and figure it’s time to learn. Seems like a very batteries included framework with sensible defaults, but I just did a hello world project init and am a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of batteries included in the top level directory.

"Fire": one syllable or two? | Ask the Editor | Britannica Dictionary

The word fire can be pronounced with one syllable or two.

Shelly asks if fire is one syllable or two because her students are using the word in haiku.

Our Pronunciation Editor Josh Guenter responds:

The word fire can be pronounced with either one or two syllables. Native speakers can rhyme fire with higher or not. The word higher is always two syllables. Hence, if you rhyme fire with higher, then you are pronouncing fire with two syllables, whereas if you don't rhyme these two words, then you are pronouncing fire with just one syllable.
