Hi,

So I wanted to gift my best man a handheld since he borrowed my old Gameboy since 3 years. Of course I would love to get him a steamdeck, since he loves playing stuff like Total War and has a huge Steam library - but the budget is around 100€ and the 549€ is just too much.

I found the miyoo mini plus, the rg353vs and I could also possibly get a switch lite around 130€.

What would be the best handheld to get with this budget? Which one of those is superior or is there something else? I really want him to get the best possible.

Thank you so much.

Here’s the situation: Bought my 13 year old son a Steam Deck last Christmas. And he just isn’t a massive fan. He loves gaming, has Switch and PS5. I’ve told him all the Deck is capable of, hoping it would jumpstart an interest in PC gaming. And he has an interest…. But not for the Deck. Unsure if it’s the UI or what but it just never clicked with him. Offered to sit down with him together and really dive into it and talk about its capabilities, get everything going on it, installing Windows, etc and just…. Nah.

For the last few months he’s saved up a lot of money with the intent of purchasing a gaming desktop that’ll last him through high school. Proud of him for working hard to earn that money and having a goal, setting out and trying to get it done.

He’s told me he has really no interest in the Deck, and it’s been legitimately just collecting dust.

I may have some interest in it myself. He asked if he could sell it to me. I’m intrigued, but I don’t know if the Deck or one of its competitors is right for me.

His Steam Deck is the base model, and he is willing to sell it to me for $300.

Heard the battery isn’t amazing. Not looking to run stuff on it at the absolute god tier levels of graphics, just run games pretty well and not have to charge it after an hour.

I saw some of its competitors. Logitech G Cloud being a lot less heavy and more comfortable, but it’s Cloud only… which I don’t actually mind. That would be the same price at what I would pay for his base model Deck.

I’ve recently replayed FFVIIR on my phone via PS Remote Play and it worked great, I do GamePass on my phone, etc. I’m intrigued about having another device so it frees up my phone. Internet at my house and work are great for streaming cloud gaming…. Then a friend pointed out that I’m silly and the Deck could ALSO get things like PS Remote Play, GamePass, GeForce NOW, etc.

Really love how the ROG Ally is Windows oriented, but it’s price point and poor battery life keep me away for sure.

How much of a pain, scale of 1-10 is it to get Windows on the Deck? Is it even necessary for what I want to do?

How’s the battery life when you’re streaming titles as opposed to running them directly through the Deck? Closer to 5 or 6 hours or we still talking 3.5-4 hours?

The ergonomics; this thing is pretty heavy. Does it prevent you from having a solid two hour handheld gaming session? My arms gonna be tired after?

(Side note: How’s GeForce NOW on it? My friend with a Deck says that Baldurs Gate 3 runs pretty poorly on his Deck and I heard another friend running it via GeForce NOW and it was very smooth, so is it worth the price?)

Hi guys! I’m looking a way into the hanheld world. I was thinking of getting a 2ds xl or a switch. As I live in a poor country, games are really expensive here, so I was considering to HomeBrew whichever I get. Which one would you recommend me?

My husband wants a retro handheld emulated gaming console and will go with either of these. Which one has more systems it can emulate? He says he wants it to be able to play all the Pokémon games except for the Switch ones since he has all the Switch ones.

So I stream games on Twitch and do gaming YouTube videos and all that. But I’m always screwed when it comes to 3DS games (and N64 games).

What would you guys recommend for an emulation handheld (heck it doesn’t even have to be a handheld, but needs controller and HDMI support and can’t be a laptop or PC) for 3DS emulation? I need to be able to run Dragon Quest VII, VIII, and the Dragon Quest Monsters remakes without having a super long black screen in between locations and loads (this is what currently happens when emulating them on my PC and Laptop)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Today, Pixel Ghost announce the immediate release of Life’s Too Short GB, made with GB Studio and playable on GameBoy and emulators:

Life’s Too Short GB is a top-down adventure originally released on the Playdate console in 2022 in which a little ghost is called to a haunted house to reunite two vampires who have dramatically fallen out and confined themselves to their respective coffins. For the GB release, the game has been fully reimagined with first-person rooms, 4 x pixels and 4 x colours (although they’re mostly different shades of green…)

To accompany the immediate digital release, Yastuna Games are also publishing a limited run of physical editions with beautiful artwork, high quality packaging, manual and small details on the cartridge:

The Life’s Too Short series of small, charming point-and-click-lite horror themed adventures is one of the top rated Playdate exclusive IPs and includes the holiday spin-off Life’s Too Short: A Christmas Spirit and upcoming Life’s 2 Short: Unhooked pirate adventure for Playdate, releasing on Aug 29:

Original Title: I'm a newbie with handheld consoles and emulation - that's just a fact - but I'm currently looking for my first one. I'm looking for one, that can emulate old games BUT also run steam games, and have my eyes on the ayn odin pro, but is there another handheld I should be looking at?

Hello everyone

Since I bought Anbernic 353V I enjoyed some games from my childhood, like Half-life, heretic and so on. I realized that PS2/PS3 titles, and PC games from 2000-2010 appeal more interesting for me (Prince of persia sands of Time, hl2, stronghold, heroes III and so on, I guess you've got the idea). Honestly, I'm looking for a solution with less hassles with installations and so on.

Is there any sense to consider a portable PC (like Intel NUC) or a portable handheld would be better? Please share your thoughts; particular devices will also help me make a proper decision.
