Hello fellow deck havers,

I find it more enjoyable if I use my deck in portrait mode when I’m not playing games. I can type better and use it as a big phablet. However, changing between portrait and landscape whenever I want to watch something or play is a pain. I thought about creating a custom gesture, that take me from landscape to portrait and vice versa, anybody know how to do that?

Hello, I am going to install a 2Tb drive on my SD today. I am planning to part the ssd as so:

500Gb for SteamOS, 256Gb for Windows and 1,25Tb as a shared drive with games.

Shoud I format the 1,25Tb partition with NFTS or better exfat?

I also have a 500gb sd card. NTFS is the best also?

I have a dual boot setup and when Windows does an update it messes up my battery calibration. I am able to recalibrate and use it fine with steam os. It's done this multiple times, always after windows does an update.

Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a way to prevent this?

I've been having a particularly frustrating issue that only seems to be happening with Bayonetta, I can't play it with fullscreen optimizations disabled without the screen being completely black, the controls are responsive and i can hear things but I am unable to see anything. As soon as I alt+enter to make it not fullscreen i can see everything again.

The reason why I need fullscreen optimizations disabled is beacuse Bayonetta on PC stutters like shit when not in Exclusive Fullscreen (same exact thing happened on my gaming laptop), basically making it really hard to play. If anyone has dealt with this or knows a solution please let me know.

I haven't been able to find this information anywhere to determine if it is worth optimizing the steam deck via UV/OC. Thus I am sharing my FPS benchmarks in case anyone else finds it useful. This is a comparison of stock vs. optimized settings for my Steam Deck running Windows 11 Pro in the following games:

  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • The Last of Us Part 1 Remake
  • Baldur's Gate 3

Stock steam deck is whatever it comes with from the factory and optimized contains the following changes:

  • 4GB UMA Frame Buffer
  • 6400 MT/s RAM OC
  • Power Down: Disabled
  • VDDCR_VDD: -35
  • VDDCR_SOC: 25
  • VDDCR_GFX: -35

Shout out to 1/4 life for being helpful in Discord and answering my questions. I ended up installing Bazzite on an external SSD as I dont want to wipe my dual boot SteamOS yet.

I've tried to document the process i did if anyone wants to replicate it. I've also added Bazzite to Clover, i just need to edit the Bazzite icon so it integrates to the theme nicely.

You would definitely need the following -

  • usb c hub / dock
  • mouse and keyboard
  • usb flash drive for the bazzite installer
  • external SSD where Bazzite will be installed

Have you tried games on Steam OS vs Windows? For the most part I only play on Windows and the performance is the same as Steam OS. Then I tried RCPS3 and I tried two games. They were not stable at 30 fps on Windows but they were stable 30 fps on Steam OS. The games were Gundam Crossfire and the first Resistance. Have you seen some games that run at higher frames vs the other?

Hi all. I would like to ask you who have tried this newish WinDeck OS about the performance. Is it worse than Steam OS? I have to reinstall my Deck, because I messed up my Stem OS. I was looking around for a debloated Windows alternative, when I came across WinDeck OS. The only thing that is stopping me from installing it straight away is that I could not find a performance comparison between the two OSes. Anyone tried it out recently?

Edit: I used to dualboot win 10 and steamOS, but I hated how those two worked. I kind of dislike windows as itself. I only need it for 2 of my games which would be great to play on the go, but also could live a few days at a time without them. Also I got the answer I was looking for, WinDeckOS is slower and has controller issues. Thank you all! <3

Hey all, ever since i put Win11 on my deck ive had this weird issue.

When i first boot my deck, the MSD card is *usually* recognized, though not always. removing and reinserting typically fixes this

HOWEVER

if the Deck goes to sleep, it is no longer seen by the deck. removing and reinserting does not fix this. the only thing that does, is to reboot the Deck.

Anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any solutions?

Thanks!

All credits goes to Metabolix for his tool called HackBGRT. This tool will allow you to change the logo when Windows boots up!

I've repackaged it and created a simple script to make the install / uninstall process easier on a Steam Deck!

Several logos are bundled in this github repo, and they will randomize whenever Windows starts up.

If you are also using my dual boot Clover script for the Steam Deck then no need to install this as the Clover script already contains HackBGRT.

This will also work on regular Windows PC / handhelds as long as SecureBoot is disabled and the config needs to be adjusted to match the screen resolution.
