Hello people. I am experiencing this graphical glitch while booting into Windows 10 on my Deck. Windows booted fine and everything works fine except this graphical glitch. Any idea, what is causing that? I have a strong suspicion that it is caused by Clover but I cannot find a cause. Tried to use stock boot screen, also Windows on Deck boot screen but glitch is always there. Thank you.

So one of the annoying thing using windows 11/10 on the steam deck is that steam big picture doesnt have the same options like on steam os' big picture mode. Im just too lazy to go in windows 11s system settings to access bluetooth, lmao.

Anyone find steamdecktools lowering their fps in game? Cold war has lowered fps considerably since getting this and lag as well. Final fantasy 15 has Incredible 5 10 fps lag spikes as well. Anyone know how to fix this shit?

Hi, I'm planning to get a Steam Deck soon and I'm already settled in dual booting Windows with SteamOS. I understood everything aside from the first part where they reinstall SteamOS, does it have anything to do with creating a partition? Would I still have to do it if it's already on factory settings + latest update? Any clarification is appreciated!

Any BDO players here? I have win10 setup on my deck and haven't yet been able to get the controls working. I'm using SDT and have also enabled gamepad controls within in game.

Thanks for any help!

Apologies if not allowed, but wanted to take a second to say thank you to all of you. I've had Windows 11 running on my deck for the past 3 months, and it's been a real game changer for me. I've liked my deck since day one with SteamOS don't get me wrong, but since switching to just Windows I've been in love with it. I play a lot of non-steam games as well (Final Fantasy 14 Square Store version, Diablo 4, etc) and while I could get them working on SteamOS.. I'm not a Linux guy, and it could quickly get frustrating when I'd get an obscure error message that I couldn't figure out the solution. I spent more time tinkering than just playing. Just having Windows boot automatically into big picture mode for Steam feels like the best of both worlds.

So just wanted to take a second to say thank you! To the devs of the tools and scripts that make it work so well, to the detailed megathread that made it a seamless transition, and to those of you that have provided support to others. (As going through some other's posts have helped me troubleshoot some of my own issues.)

I’m currently doing a dual boot of SteamOS and Windows 10. Just wondering if there are any advantages to going Windows only (aside from storage space). I’m suspecting the answer is no, but figured I’d ask those more knowledgeable!

Thanks for any helpful answers!!

As the title, yes valve hasn’t released offical dual booting for the Steam Deck.

But what would be the difference vs the current state. E.g using the boot manager?

I spend a lot of time in this thread and these are some very common issues I see with most of these being issues I have had. I hope this helps some poor soul out there who has spent their entire weekend setting up Windows on Deck only to be running into problems. I hope all of you reading this have a lovely day :)

1.Controller (deck controller) not detecting in games

  • Ensure that you have Steam Input enabled and the windows drivers from Steam downloaded and installed.

2. Stuck in Dual Boot / Windows not loading after install

  • This is generally due to Windows being installed on an SD card. Some have luck with it, especially if you have a high performance SD card. But if you installed windows on an SD card and are having this issue, move the install of Windows to your SSD. I would highly advise against putting windows on an SD card as your performance will likely be abysmal.

3. Poor performance in Games / Lag when playing online

  • Utilize AMD FSR 2.0 when available in games. I have had tremendous luck with this.
  • Keep track of apps you have running in the background and close them when not needed
  • DO NOT DOWNLOAD GOOGLE CHROME (lol) Opera GX is much better to run on deck. Still, close when gaming
  • Ensure Windows for Deck drivers are up to date and still installed (I have had it happen where windows overwrites the steam drivers, also a re-install of drivers often fixes lag when playing online. Keep in mind the Wi-Fi antenna is nothing amazing.)
  1. Audio not working
  • Hate to be a broken record but Steam drivers my guy. On this note however, the speakers are good but just not loud. I would recommend headphones/ getting a USB-C dock on Amazon for $20 and use PC/TV Speakers. My cheap dock is still kickin! :)

If you are having an issue I didnt list (which is definitely possible as I only listed a few issues), reach out! This community is fantastic and very helpful.

Hi, i followed a tutorial on youtube to set up the steam deck controls using glossi and a ds4 emulator. I personally used SDT for my deck and dont want to use glossi, but the ds4 emulator won't recognize SDT inputs. I really want to be able just to use SDT for remote play if possible. Any suggestions?

Hi all,

I'm trying to use the SD card as a quick and convenient way to copy files between my main Windows 10 PC and my Windows 10 Steam Deck. The copy goes fine and I safely remove just fine.

When I plug back into the Steam Deck the folder that I copied over doesn't show up at all. All over pre-existing folders are fine and no issues with playing games from the SD card at all.

Sometimes the folder will randomly show up later. Sometimes it shows back on my main PC but not on Steam Deck. Sometimes it completely disappears even when the SD card is plugged into the main PC.

Any idea what's happening?

Advanced thanks.

edit: SD card is NTFS if that matters

Does everyone use the performance power mode in the windows settings?

I was previously on balance and have just changed it to performance and want to know if it makes any difference?

Hey guys, I’ve been thinking about installing windows 10 on my deck. Are handheld companion or steam deck tools compatible? I have them on my windows 11 right now and, before installing the win10, I’d like to know.

So I'm following a guide on windows/steam dual boot. Issue here is that the TouchPads don't work in the recovery mode on steamos, so I can't right click on things I need to right click. The only thing that works is the touchscreen. Anybody have this issue and/or did you figure out how to fix it?

Edit: I got it to work by plugging the flash drive into my dock while the steam deck was docked. Still don't know why the touchpads weren't working but oh well, I got dual boot up and running.

The app works fine no issues. But no controller detected. I tried handheld companion and steam deck tools but no luck. Recently i have been hearing that Sony updated the PS remote app on windows and make it no longer supports virtual controllers. Any idea on what is going on??

I just installed a fresh copy of windows 10 on my steam deck and immediately ran a debloater tool on it. But, one of the effects of the tool was turning off windows updates. Do windows updates affect my performance in games or can just ignore them?

I set up dual booting from my internal drive using rEFInd and everything is fine if I'm shutting down or restarting from SteamOS but if I shut down or restart my deck from Windows it just automatically boots back into Windows without giving me a choice.

Is there something I need to do in Windows to change it?

No matter what I’ve tried I cannot get MW2 to launch on my deck. I’ve looked through posts on this board as well as loads of other places. I’ve updated runtime, I’ve put game on ssd same place as windows, I’ve tried to run as administrator. I’m at a loss. Any ideas?
