I spend a lot of time in this thread and these are some very common issues I see with most of these being issues I have had. I hope this helps some poor soul out there who has spent their entire weekend setting up Windows on Deck only to be running into problems. I hope all of you reading this have a lovely day :)
1.Controller (deck controller) not detecting in games
- Ensure that you have Steam Input enabled and the windows drivers from Steam downloaded and installed.
2. Stuck in Dual Boot / Windows not loading after install
- This is generally due to Windows being installed on an SD card. Some have luck with it, especially if you have a high performance SD card. But if you installed windows on an SD card and are having this issue, move the install of Windows to your SSD. I would highly advise against putting windows on an SD card as your performance will likely be abysmal.
3. Poor performance in Games / Lag when playing online
- Utilize AMD FSR 2.0 when available in games. I have had tremendous luck with this.
- Keep track of apps you have running in the background and close them when not needed
- DO NOT DOWNLOAD GOOGLE CHROME (lol) Opera GX is much better to run on deck. Still, close when gaming
- Ensure Windows for Deck drivers are up to date and still installed (I have had it happen where windows overwrites the steam drivers, also a re-install of drivers often fixes lag when playing online. Keep in mind the Wi-Fi antenna is nothing amazing.)
- Audio not working
- Hate to be a broken record but Steam drivers my guy. On this note however, the speakers are good but just not loud. I would recommend headphones/ getting a USB-C dock on Amazon for $20 and use PC/TV Speakers. My cheap dock is still kickin! :)
