I never did watch that show.. was it shit or was it gud?

[-] the_itsb@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

from what I remember of the little bit I saw on TV as a small child, it had Smoky & the Bandit energy - a lot of the stunts involved running from the cops and jumping a vehicle over stuff

but the car was called General Lee and it had a big Confederate flag on the hood, sooooooooo

oh yeah forgot about that

Put your dukes up, let's go.

What does this phrase mean? Are dukes fists?

[-] theposterformerlyknownasgood@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yes? Duke as fist is a pretty establisted bit of slang.

The etymology is what's gonna make you mad.

[-] PointAndClique@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Lmao I'd never heard it in that context and yeah the etymology is a bit oblique. I'm guessing 'duke it out' comes from the same root

Alas, thine challenge to a duel was so crass. Thine quips are weak and feeble. But thou may find honor where thine wit lacks, so I shall engage. Choose your second and start walking out the paces.

[-] peeonyou@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

my second is uh... Vladimir Lenin.. amidoingthisrite?
