It feels all but certain that I won't be able to enjoy a prosperous life or get to retire. All of the wealth is going straight to the top. All of the opportunities to move up in the world are being rug-pulled. All of the federal agencies that help keep us safe and healthy are gone. The social safety net is getting flushed down the toilet. We will live in disease and squalor, and the most vulnerable of us will die.

Because I dared to not be a sociopath, I and anyone else who voted for sanity will be deemed enemies of the state and hunted down - which won't be hard, because it would be trivial to build the most robust surveillance state in human history if it doesn't exist already.

I myself have disabilities (which I don't think qualify for benefits) that make it hard, but not impossible, to find a job. The problem is that I just can't bring myself to do it because I don't get what the fucking point is anymore. I have to work so hard to get out of this rut just for some fascist fuck to kill me or toss me into a torture facility before I can even experience life on my own.

Have you been in a similar headspace and were able to escape it? If so, what snapped you out of it?

For me, it would be that I smoke weed

Since Ive offered him pretty much everything (under reasonable prices) like all kinds of games, ball games, skate etc, he also has a bike so I’m totally out of ideas

last gift was a cheap xiaomi sports bracelet which he loved, but now I don’t know how to up it…

A pair of socks? He only shows much love for me near the seasons 😂 so I told him santa was watching (of course he doesn’t believe in santa anymore). I might prank him but I need a backup gift, so… title

I know I snore, im not trying to figure that out. But I do want to record whenever I talk in my sleep. Im looking for an app that'll only record when that happens.

Ive used SnoreLab. It records great, but it locks a lot of recordings behind a subscription, and im not looking to pay to hear my midnight ramblings.

Basically an app that only records when there's sound, and free. Any suggestions?

It seems that over the past couple months or so, I started having and engaging in more political discussions (on account of the presidential election). When you're in that space, it feels like you need to have an opinion on every little thing. Geopolitics, taxes, financial policy, etc. How important is it to educate myself and ask questions? Do you feel that pressure to have an opinion on everything?

edit: I don't think this question is about politics, but if it is, I can delete this.

I've always been told that Hitler was a masterful public speaker; that his support can largely be explained by his compelling, if not mesmerizing hold on crowds. This narrative is not common, it's universal.

Sometimes I think this is emphasized over how much the crowds approved of the content of his speech.

How do native German speakers feel when they view footage of Hitler? Do you think the reputation is earned?

Three of the main characters were the same actor, and yet there are shots with all of them in the same scene. When I saw this as a young adult I didn't even notice that Mike Myers was playing three roles and was genuinely dumbfounded years later when I found out.

How did they do those scenes so seamlessly?

As I scroll through Lemmy, I keep seeing the same posts over and over. Exact same title (usually cross posted). Is there a way to group these posts so that we can decide which instance to interact with instead of seeing the same post 6+ times? It starts to feel like the content is just being recycled to the top of the next page.

I use the default browser on PC and Summit on my phone and usually sort by new. This same issue was starting to get to me on reddit til I left

I rarely feel attacked when I talk with people in person. And we all take people feelings into consideration enough so no one is trying to attack anyone.

I was not actively commenting on social media since I was 13. But when I joined Lemmy i saw the statistics only 1% of people are actively posting and commenting on social media. And since I knew I was in 99% of people who are only consuming and really wanted Lemmy to take off I tried to be more active.

But now I find myself way too often attacked and attacking. And I always judged people that are attacking others on Xitter or Facebook.

I'm not sure if any Lemmy communities have covered this rumor. Have any of you heard about it????

I started to notice a trend on Mastodon and Lemmy where the person criticize a news source for writing a minimally biased headline.

Sometimes, I even notice a person posting a article on Mastodon to provide commentary, and in the replies you would find a person criticizing the headline for not using loaded words.

Is there is any specific reason for people doing this?

NGL, not asking for a friend. Given the current trends in US politics, it seems prudent to at least look into it.

Most of the online content on the topic seems to be by immigration attorneys hustling ultra rich people. I'm not ultra rich. I have a job in tech, could work remotely, also have enough assets to not desperately need money if the cost of living were low enough.

I am a native English speaker, fluent enough in Spanish to survive in a Spanish speaking country. I am old, male, cis, hetero, basically asexual at this point. I am outgoing, comfortable among strangers.

What's good and bad about where you live? Would it be OK for a outsider, newcomer?

Any kind of game

EDIT: changed from suggested to mentioned and made the title more clear

Background:

I'm in my 40s and I've always sort of beaten myself up over not being an avid reader. I go through phases where I read a bunch, sometimes I'll finish a book in a months time, sometimes start a book and forget it, sometimes it seems like I go literally years without really getting into any book at all. But I still accumulate them.

Because of how important reading is and now I "fail" to prioritize it, I've always found myself in a poor relationship with reading. I feel this artificial pressure to read things that are only important and will somehow make me more useful. I feel this artificial pressure to start one book and read it to the end. I feel this artificial pressure to become a changed person by fully investing every bit of info from every book.

I've been learning that these pressures are untenable.

I've also noticed that I partake in all kinds of things without the same expectations: tv shows, games, podcasts, media and news outlets, social media, etc.

Right now I have 6 books that I am actively reading, and I am trying to remember that it's for enjoyment and not some high level goal. Someone told me if I read 10 pages a day I would finish about 10 books a year. I found this so encouraging.

Taking the pressure off of reading has really helped me get more productive at reading, and I think it will help me convert my habit into a truly fruitful one.

So now I ask you:

  • What are your reading habits like?
  • What do you like to read?
  • What kind of stage of life are you in, and how does that affect it?
  • Have you made any changes, positive or negative, to your reading habits?
  • What else?

They are trying to force 2fa for stalking so I'm about to delete my account. I'm a resource mostly for a few reverse engineered hardware schematics and electronics projects. Last I checked I'm the primary English doc source for some AliEx class hardware. I don't really care enough to make a ton of effort right now. I'm certainly not in a position to pay to host or move. Is there anywhere that just works to transfer stuff with a proton email and no collector, github, com stalkerware nonsense, or verify you're identity to better market you to advertising and freedom of information manipulation trolls?

I diligently mute them, I'm a freak I cannot stand them. But from the nature of many people's complaints about ads, it seems like they listen to them and want to retain the words they've said?

Someone turned 80k into like 1.2 million betting on Tesla calls or something and hedged with a Kamala win bet it was like 50k tesla/30k Kamala and they turned it into 1.2 million via Tesla somehow

Is it like

  • bet 1/2 on unlikely thing
  • bet 1/2 on likely thing
  • rely on gains on either side averaging out to at least ++

I've got a couple of e-mail addresses with the main providers, but I'm looking to switch to an ad-free and more secure provider.

I've been looking at ProtonMail, but what do you guys use or recommend?

I used Facebook just for one community that would not move elsewhere. So I had to check it once a month. But then Facebook started recommending me other interesting groups and communities I joined. In my experience Facebook 6 months ago just recommended random old memes and ads. And I was hoping enshitification would finally eat Facebook for good. (I mean tiktok like reels however still shows enshitification is their top priority)

But now I am member of groups with active and helpful people. Niche groups you will not be able to find on lemmy or even reddit.

For me to really start liking it again after 10 years into enshitification they would probably have to become really open. Like joining a fediverse and offer messenger interoperability with other apps. Probably even becomming opensource.

Is it true that facebook feed is becomming more interesting or is this just my feeling because I joined those groups that existed there probably for a long time? Is Facebook making a comeback?

For me it would be the wise goblin man Yoda, an absolute classic jedi who spits truth and teaches the next generation about the force.

"Do or do not, there is no try" - Yoda, 1980

What about you, fellow jedi or sith, what character brings you closer to the force?
