I've been in a few situations where I need substantial help from strangers, and some have offered to help (most haven't followed through) but I just can't do it.

For example someone offered to help me move and I just feel super uncomfortable about it to the point where I'd rather risk something bad happening to me. Like I feel super awkward and uncomfortable accepting huge favours from strangers

Someone even offered a place to stay for me with my pets but I can't accept it cause I feel way too awkward and like I owe them or something, like I have a huge fear and anxiety about it

Like I just feel like a disgusting parasite wasting their time and energy and it's also humiliating

Is that normal?

Could they do it? Deactivate Windows licenses, block Cloud services, access to Office 365 and whatnot?

Screenshot says it. Please recommend alternative Leftist news sources. I am in UK but I read news from anywhere, any language if my browser can access it/translate it.

Here in UK, I have tried The Canary, Novara Media, Byline Times, Morning Star - all have strengths and weaknesses, none are a perfect fit. Still looking for my 'daily paper'.

Thanks!

With the boycott for Teslas seemingly going strong I was wondering if anyone has successfully removed the proprietary software off any of the models or removed it from the Tesla network?

Considering that the cameras send data to other cars on the network to be processed (using the customers power instead of the company's) this seems better than just reselling to me.

The summer is coming soon to the Northern Hemisphere. How do you plan to combat the heat? I live in a regular apartment without air conditioning, and installing a full-scale system is not an option. I wonder what my options are, and how other people are planning to deal with the issue.

You see a 1 minute clip right before they die. You have their real names (and any aliases), but that's all the info you have. You don't know their exact location, not even the country, nor their occupation, or whether they are a "good" or "bad" person. Their death is 99% guaranteed to happen unless you help them avert their death.

They will always be located at least 1/3 of the Earth's circumference away from you, so it means they will be guaranteed to not be within 13,333KM of your location at the moment you get the premonition.

What do you do with this knowledge? Try to save them? Or feel the guilt of their death forever, that you might've been able to prevent?

Due to the Canadian influence in the Francophone improv scene, on improv match you see team wearing Ice-hockey jersey, referee with the black-white stripped jersey, and the public would thrown slipper at them. Making it a fun and interactive show.

But is it something universal (On matches with competing team, not on improv show who don't have referee) or something limited to the Francophone scene ?

Hello!

After planting some parsley, it contaminated another pot, the big one in the photo, then some flat parsley started to grow in yet another pot so I transferred it there, god knows from where the chive comes from and then a "stick" started pushing, and eventually sprouted some leaves which could make it idetifyable, or so I hope!

Any idea what it might be? It feels like the beginning of a tree...

Edit: sorry, photo upload didn't work.

I've got a great life, I am not trying to avoid tomorrow or whatever, but I just really like staying awake when I'm absolutely balls ass tired. It's kinda addicting, like the sleepier you are, the more insanely good the sleep will be. So I find myself struggling, on purpose, to stay awake. I force myself to read books, or watch shows, or go on Lemmy... and I only just realized it's because I love feeling sleepy.

So uhh, anyone else got this?

Textured ceilings probably help hide things, but why the lines?

NOTE: the late "Lemmy" is a beloved Brit* musician from an enjoyable rock band, perhaps with some Led Zep-type analogues? (sorry, I just didn't know him very well; kinda before my time)

Okay, what I'm trying to explain here is how we search for things and how we find them, particularly when we include the magical word: "Lemmy" in our searches.

For example-- I can just half-awake, lazily type something like "reddit" + search term, and BOOM! Robert's your avuncular figure.**

Now, by comparison, hopping on an instance, so far I've found that searches within the Lemmysphere are remarkably strong. (well, at least for lemm.ee; I love my instance)

Unfortunately, that's not how most people search and find us, which more typically involves Google, etc.

Hence my question, laddies & lassies-- i.e. is there anything we can do to influence how this search-stuff works...?

* see, I always find a way to relate things back to Europe, haha

** like "there you go," ie. "Bob's your uncle," a classic Brit pub-phrase

I had the Philips one but after about a year it's suction changed to the point where it's hard for it to pick up cat litter now..

It must be able to deal with a lot of cat hair and litter.. and preferably be under 500 euros.

Of course I think a corded one is better for my purposes, and I have mostly hard floors with a few small rugs.

The problem is that every year the quality decreases, so it becomes difficult to know which vacuums will still be good. For example, someone may have purchased the same vacuum 5 years ago and think it's great but the one sold today might not compare

I personally connect deeply with Amélie Farren. I've been listening to her music since she first posted it to tiktok. I can't explain what about it connects so well but it just clicjs for me.

That got me thinking what artists other lemmings connected to. Hence the title

To preface, I kind of know the answer to this. I've put on weight before but I was hoping to get advice on how to go about better/more efficiently. I guess my question is really: what are healthy high calorie foods I can use to put on weight?

I've been underweight pretty much my entire life. I don't think I have a chronic eating disorder, but there are times where I just don't want to eat. I believe, however, that's actually not my largest issue.

I'm potentially too health conscious. I'm vegetarian by accident (So I dated this girl right...) mostly, and as a result I eat a lot of nutrient-dense but calorically-low foods. I'm currently sitting just under 56kg (125 lbs) at 180cm (5'11ish). My plan currently is to just eat more often, and slowly ramp up how much I eat at each meal. About 6 years back I managed to hit 77kg by eating 4/5 large meals per day but then lost it all over the years by being sedentary and losing my appetite.

And stuff related to that. When you pay attention, focus... get so concentrated on something that you get sucked in...

What is that like? Can you describe it?

And in the opposite direction. What is it like to be distracted?

Tesla dealerships are getting protested and, in some cases, vandalized. Sales are down on 9 of the top 10 countries Tesla sells in. Yet Tesla stock is up. Twitter is a cesspool of nazi-themed bots, and somehow just pulled in $1bn and raised its valuation back up to $44bn.

How is any of this possible? It seems really artificial to me, but I don't really understand business.

The world outside my doorstep is a really complex net of chaos and I am effectively blind to most of its existence.

Say I'm looking for a job. And I know what job I want to do. I can search for it on a job listing site, but there will still be many such jobs that won't be cataloged on the site and that I'll hence be missing. How can I find the rest? What are some alternative approaches?

Also there are two ways you can end up with a job: either you find it (going on a job search), or it finds you (headhunters etc.). Obviously the latter possibility is much better as it's less tiring and it means you end up with an over-abundance of opportunities (if people message you every week). What are some rules of thumb for life to make it so that the opportunities come to you? (and not only for jobs)

Often I don't even know what opportunities are on offer out in that misty unknown (and my ADHD brain finds it straining to research them (searching 1 job site feels almost futile because you don't know how many of the actual opportunities you aren't seeing)), so the strategy I resort to is imagining what I concievably expect to be out there and then trying to find it. This has several weaknesses: firstly I could be imagining something that doesn't actually exist and waste hours beating myself up because I can't find it. Or, almost even worse, my limited imagination might be limiting what sorts of opportunities I look for which means I miss out of the truly crazy things out there.

Here's an example of an alternative approach that worked for me once:

Last month I wanted to visit a university in another city for a few days to see if I liked it, and I needed a place to stay. I first tried the obvious approach of searching AirBnB for rents I could afford, but none came up. Hence I had to search through the unmapped. What ended up working was: I messaged the students union -> they added me to their whatsapp group -> sb from my country replied to my post on there adding me to a different WA group for students from my country -> sb in that WA group then DM'd saying I could crash on their couch.

I would have never thought of trying an approach like this when I set out, and yet I must have done something right because it worked. What? The idea to message the students union and join whatsapp groups took quite a lot of straining the creative part of my brain, so I'm wondering whether the approach I took here can somehow be generalized so that I can use it in the future.

TL;DR: Search engines don't map the world comprehensively. You might not even be searching for the right thing. What are some other good ways to search among the unstructured unknown that is out there?

Not a troll post. Why is everything shit?

Im noticing its harder and harder to find things on google. Searching for a companies quarterly profits, cost of medical care for all per capita, and othet economic details are all getting more and more buried in google. Just asking how other contries do their social programs results in us based opionion articles....like wtf are we even doing.

I understand scrolling and indexing sites is an enormous undertaking. Is there currently a federated open source search engine? If not is their a potential to create one?

Is there a trustworthy private option?

I am so tired of being part of the YT algo. Is there a somewhat decent alternative to youtube? I already have Nebula but that doesn't give me my news and show talking head fix

There's a video game called Smite that has around 130 playable mythological figures. Can another game have the same list of figures (exclusively) or even a smaller list of figures with the same gods that are also used in Smite?
