The poll will close a few hours before midnight Sunday, UTC time.

The nuances on this issue are challenging. On the one hand, there are those that simply see the murder as being abhorrent. On the other, there are those who see it simply as being comeuppance. I believe the issue is one coming out of deep seated and wide-spread resentment at structural inequality and in many cases, personal stories of suffering caused by the failure of the existing system. The victim was a key player in that system, but he was also a human being with children.

A key function of social media is to provide a space for debate about social issues, and to facilitate discussions about how we can collectively build a better future. The challenge for moderators is to try to find a line between extremes that balances conflicting perspectives in a way that respects the community, and I believe the intent of the fediverse to be free from corporate control of discussion. In terms of rules, the key sentence in the ToS seems to be "We do not tolerate serious threats or calls for violence."

I would suggest that:

  • comments/posts that actively call for violence should be removed. e.g. "Someone should shoot all CEO's".
  • comments/posts that more reflect a dissatisfaction with the system should not. e.g. "He contributed to untold suffering. I'm not surprised someone took matters into their own hands."

Is there a mod and admin only matrix room that we can use to discuss modding? I'm aware of Lemmy.World General and Lemmy.World DEFENCE, but I don't think either of these is what I'm looking for.

OP, can you please edit your question to make it clearer. Remember, open-ended and thought provoking.

OP. Please read the AskLemmy community rules. This is not the correct community for support questions. Locking.

Rule 5. Support question. Locking.

I did this on Firefox, but I suspect it may work in other browers too.

  1. Install the Violentmonkey extension. Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey will also do.
  2. Install the Lemmy tools script.
  3. Browse to Lemmy
  4. Click on the screw driver icon on the LemmyTools bar that is now visible on the Lemmy page.
  5. Scroll down and check the box next to "Content Blocking"
  6. Add your block words in the "Add filters seperated by commas." box. I typed "Trump, Vance" Voila!

I'm wondering how hard it would be to write a firefox extension that blocked individual Lemmy posts based on the presence of words in a block list.

I'm pretty famiiar with Python, but have only done a little bit of hacking of JS, so was hoping the brains trust could provide some insight.

Why is it so good?

It was started by one of the grandfathers of computing/the web/the internet, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was called and my DuckDuckGo-Foo is failing me today.

I had to help give CPR to someone recently, and their eyes were partly open. Got me wondering whether they were partly conscious while I was doing compressions.

How does it work for you?
