I want to learn how to cook. Now that I'm not a lone NEET anymore but in a relationship, I want to reach a level where I can cook a succulent meal for my partner. I want to start simple, with a focus on noodle dishes. Later, I want to move on to rice dishes, but that's for the future.

Hit me with your tips and tricks for someone who has cooked maybe 4-5 times in his life and hasn't cooked in like 10 years. I'm a complete noob.

Also, YouTube channels would be greatly appreciated, especially those focused on simple dishes and easy stuff. I don't need anything complex for at least the next year.

Simple. Quick. Tasty. Thats what im looking for.

Thanks, Hexbears!

Sincere post, if you dare. What has this site and the people on it meant to you

"How would you feel if my ass scent suddenly formed into an ethereal hand as it wafted into your nose from like 20 ft away and you became entranced as it beckoned you with one finger and you floated, following its gesture blissfully like it was some apple pie on a window sill????"

i love that this site has my sense of humor lol

Redditism 1: "It's the internet. You are allowed to swear." young-sheldon

I hate when some very grown-ass adult says that because someone didn't cuss enough for their taste. I swear all the time in my posts here but I still find that shit really, really tryhard and it seems more immature than not saying the naughty word to me.

Redditism 2: Ending a rebuke with a question mark when it's not a question to make it sound extra snippy.

I've heard this being compared to a "vocal fry" and maybe it is, and coming from CA, vocal fries were often said out loud as a form of subtle hostility toward people perceived as lessers, such as retail and restaurant workers. If you need an example of what I'm talking about, it usually goes something like this:

Poster: "I think (opinion)." i-think-that

Redditism enjoyer: "You're wrong?" smuglord

Redditism 3: "Do you need help? Who hurt you? Help is available if you need it, buddy!" heated-gamer-moment

This one is the worst one I can think of right now because it contaminates even the very possibility of showing sincere care and concern for someone else. It comes loaded with the implication that the person that was "hurt" or "needs help" is fundamentally wrong and should shut up. Fuck that ableist shit, forever. guts-rage

I ask this in particular after this particular cognitohazard dropped:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWuNv6cv27o

smurf-cursed is the most condescendingly toxic kind of Reddit New Atheist and has made that part of his brand for decades, so that already rules out most religious people that don't just see religion as some sort of country club gathering.

He has the same creepy misanthropic view of children, where he holds them in contempt and clearly wants to violate them too, that a lot of kiddie-creeping boomers do, so that probably rules out most people significantly younger than him unless he's directly throwing money at them and they're accepting it.

He believes in (or at least professes belief for profit) a lot of Qanon shit, in particular against trans people, so that even rules out a lot of wine liberals that I assume would otherwise clink wine glasses to his smuglord quips.

He's just about definitive Blue MAGA, which red MAGA despises anyway, so he isn't likely to have much a fandom there outside of fickle "he is one of the good ones" gimmicks where he might show up on a chud podcast or something sometimes.

I truly don't know and I'm sincerely asking: what demographic is left with all of that (and more) carved out that might like that particular piece of shit? What's his revenue source besides being rich already?

I never received formal education in the subject and I want to learn about it so that I may have a better understanding of the philosophy of our political tradition. I'd appreciate any suggestions on materials to get an introduction to the topic.

i had pork bung once. it tasted, uh, "rectumy" but was not bad. i was at a restaurant with a friend who had eaten them growing up, but prepared differently. friend said could be prepared to have a less strong taste. But we both enjoyed the meal.

be it resolved that meat-eating hexbears must consume pork bung.

needs a couple of whereases. friendly amendments accepted.

Seconder?

If you aren't up to it, you gotta go vegan.

I've never heard of Metazoo before but I like cryptids and the classic Sugimori artstyle so these caught my eye.

What are they? Does anyone know?

Evey where online seems to be astroturfed, just companies pumping themselves up, all the review sites I've found so far, if i dig deep, are also bought and sold. And, it seems like the industry has grown into further and further ways of obfuscating how terrible they are making their products now- eg. cutting down on the literal stitches in the side walls, so it doesn't last 5 years.

JFC! I just need a bed! I want to get it offline, cause in person(my town is small and dont even think we have a sales center) but they are all commission based, just used car salesman trying to take as much money as possible. Does anyone have any recommendations? My partner and I aren't rich but we are moving in together for first time(gleeful noises!), and both our beds already suck. Leaning toward a spring and foam situation, probably cant spend more that 1k, and are hoping for a king so theres plenty of wiggle room for both of us, and we dont end up having sleep problems with each other. Any help would be greatly appreciated- God I hate capitalism, literally ruins the entire earth and now wont even let me sleep. Thanks comrades,

I’m being hyperbolic, but TikTok just re-radicalized me and in ADHD energy mode and I know this urgency won’t last forever. I hate when things I’m around feel contaminated by toxins and I already wear a mask for the polluted air. I hate getting rid of things that might be useful, but also plastics bad so it might be useful. I do have OCD, but this isn’t about that it’s an exaggerated but rational urge. I realize this account’s lib asking you to “vote with your dollar,” but for personal health what do you think? I can afford this eventually. I’m clearly monotropism spiraling but it’s fun.

Also, should we stop recycling plastic if the product will be worse?

So, I recently played Vampire Survivors with my girlfriend on PC. I think they liked it. They arent new to gaming so no need to hold back. Can you recommend any fun or good games that you can play with a controller on PC? One person using a mouse and keyboard and the other using a controller is fine as well.

I'm open to pretty much all genres as long as the games are available on PC. If they are a bit simpler and easy to get into, that would be preferred.

Thanks Hexbears

this is an experiment i have done for the last week or something. no upbear counters, no upbear buttons, just sorted by new or new comments. it has been very nice, but i know that inevitably somebody is gonna feel like i'm being snooty to them for not upbearing them. its very nice that people are taking time out of their day to engage with me on the net, and i always feel that when i get the notifications, but i think some of them are gonna take it personally if i keep this crap up

the question: how important is this little courtesy to you???? does it bother you if you dont get upvotes when you are talking to people?

thank you for your replies but know that for responding to this survey i cannot offer any remuneration. you are encouraged to not upbear this post or even report it if you see any flagrant rulebreaks

just for context i have done this experiment to see if it feels better and if i feel less obsessive about innernet points/see if i make better comments without the motivation (turns out this one is a no)

I was wondering if anyone has any Marxist literature related to this topic, if it exists at all. Talking about "treats" is very much a part of the site's culture, so I'm wondering if this part of hexbear has any grounding in the Marxist understanding of the world in the 21st century.

This is not a shitpost, I'm genuinely curious. Thanks! stalin-approval

everyone always says lie on your resume, and i agree that there’s no reason not to. i’ve never done it before though so i want to know what i can and can’t get away with.

for example, if i’ve been out of work since january, can i just lie and say i’m still employed by the company i quit working at in january and make it look like i don’t have an 8-month gap on my resume? or is the HR person at the place i’m applying going to be able to figure out that’s a lie?

also please give tips on what are some good lies to add, how to punch up normal looking resume shit, etc

I'm confused

So far, I've heard that accumulation, technological advancement, and thus concentration of capital from the previous capitalist economy would leave its print on the later modern socialist economies

But other than that, I've realized I've never looked much into what distinguishes AES's economic management, mainly of state-owned enterprises, from capitalist economy's management, in concrete policy

I can understand co-operatives, but such orgs don't necessarily make up socialism, as you guys would say
