Hello!

Thanks for lemmy.today. 🙇 It's great!

Mainly I was just wondering: is it normal for one's lemmy account to slow down as the number of subs goes up? Currently, I'm subbed to almost 200 communities. When I load my home page at lemmy.today, the page always loads in almost 10 seconds.

My home page is set to Subscribed and Hot.

Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to decrease the homepage load time?

The Interstellar app is younger than and isn't yet on par with Eternity on Android for me, yet, but it's certainly usable for me. It seems to have a lot more commits going into its GitHub repository, whereas Eternity seems to have had its commits trail off; the last Eternity commit, as of this writing, was 10 months ago. Interstellar is also notable among native clients for supporting all of Lemmy, Mbin, and PieFed. It also runs on Linux, Windows, and Android now with "more to come". I see commits for iOS and the Mac going in, though it doesn't look like support is yet done there. I think that this is substantially wider Threadiverse and OS support than anything else out there, and I'm guessing that it may become the big new Android (at least) client.

I was wondering if we could get it added to the list of clients in the lemmy.today sidebar.

Thanks!

I can't post to Announcements so this is going here instead.

The SSL certificate for the site has expired. I've already reached out to mrmanager and hopefully they'll surface soon to get it corrected.

Whenever I upload a video the audio is deleted. This doesn't happen with other smaller lemmy ansible setups so I assume it is something wrong with lemmy.today config. Example attached.

Sometimes I think people forget how much Lemmy users have incommon, and we just focus on the differences.

Lets look at some introduction letters from users lately who joined this instance:

I'm a technoligist based out of the United States. I want to explore the fediverse protocols, so I'm trying Lemmy and ActivityPub. Also, I jumped off Reddit when they began restricting API access heavily and have been looking for a link-aggregator alternative ever since.

I am an astronomer, nature lover in heart. I am tired of using apps and websites from companies spying on us and owning basically everything. I will be happy to switch from reddit to lemmy. I am curious though how do you know that a bot cannot write such a text.

Great interest in knowledge and competency building through balanced use of technology. I am currently in the process of moving away from the tech giants and their madness.

Reddit sucks now, want a decentralized, not profit driven alternative

I am a concerned citizen of a country run by Nazis and I am trying to escape most social media sites that harvest our data, I have been pointed in this direction by a privacy enthusiast who said this is the land of the free, Or something like that.

I am a longtime (15 years) reddit user, and I am looking for alternatives that are not driven by corporate interests.

We all really want the same thing. I also want the same thing, which is why I run this instance.

You are all part of a growing community of people who dont want the typical social media experience from ad-funded big tech companies who only care about profits. I think thats really cool.

Thanks for being part of Lemmy guys. :)

I'm back after my other account was hacked but decided I'd better grab this name before someone else tries to.

I've come across a Redditor experiencing difficulty creating an account on lemmy.today: https://old.reddit.com/r/Lemmy/comments/1jgpd2o/problem_editing_account_on_lemmy_but_on/

Is there some way you could reach out to them, or they could reach out to you?

I couldn't find an email address or other contact info listed in the sidebar or footer of the lemmy.today instance.

Hello I just created an account on this instance and just wanted to say hello and thank you all for having me here, I am going to also try and bring along a community I created a while back first on reddit, then on lemmy. Sadly the instance I was most using and created my community on is expected to shut down soon but I am glad I found this place.

thats about it just wanted to say hi and thank you

I originally chose this instance because it seemed to be aimed at people who don't really want to join a specific community. All I can say is I barely ever think about this instance and I mean that as a huge compliment. You guys run a tight ship with almost no hiccups or issues so far. Thanks for keeping the lights on.

On lemmy.today, I don't appear to be seeing posts created in the past two days as of this writing on either !NonCredibleDefense@sh.itjust.works or !Games@sh.itjust.works. I am subscribed to both communities. I have not done an search to determine whether other subscribed sh.itjust.works communities are affected, though I assume that to be the case.

They are visible from lemmy.world, so the posts are propagating to at least some other federated instances.

sh.itjust.works presently appears to be running Lemmy 0.19.5 (versus lemmy.today's 0.19.4 and lemmy.world's 0.19.3). However, I do not think that this is a version-related problem, at least not alone, as !Ukraine@sopuli.xyz is showing up fine on lemmy.today.

https://lemmy.today/instances lists sh.itjust.works as a federated instance as of this writing.

https://sh.itjust.works/instances lists lemmy.today as a federated instance as of this writing.

Lemmy.today has also been responding very slowly to me over the past hour or so, and was frequently showing connection timeouts and gateway error pages when trying to load pages. Other instances appear to be working normally. That may be entirely unrelated, but I thought that I'd mention it, as it's unusual and at least might be related.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone new joining the instance lately. Seems like reddits ideas of introducing paywalled subreddits got a few more people to think twice about using that site.

I just wanted to encourage new users to install a good mobile client for Lemmy. The web interface is OK but the mobile apps really take Lemmy to another level by being much faster and more user friendly.

I personally like Boost for Lemmy and Sync but there are many others to choose from. More are linked in the sidebar.

After you do that, make sure to subscribe to many communities. You see a list under the Communities tab and you can choose to subscribe with a click.

You can also go here and see all communities in the entire lemmy universe:

https://lemmyverse.net/communities

Me and @Buelldozer@lemmy.today are trying to keep the bots and spammers out and it goes pretty well so far.

Hope you like Lemmy more than Reddit, most of us here do.. :)
