AN ACT To develop and disseminate a civic education curriculum and oral history resources regarding certain political ideologies, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the “Crucial Communism Teaching Act”.

The purposes of this Act are the following:

(1) To help families, civic institutions, local communities, local educational agencies, high schools, and State educational agencies to prepare high school students to be civically responsible and knowledgeable adults.

(2) To ensure that high school students in the United States—

(A) learn that communism has led to the deaths of over 100,000,000 victims worldwide;

(B) understand the dangers of communism and similar political ideologies; and

(C) understand that 1,500,000,000 people still suffer under communism.

SEC. 3. Development and dissemination of civic education curriculum and oral history resources.

The independent entity created under section 905(b)(1)(B) of the FRIENDSHIP Act (40 U.S.C. 8903 note; 107 Stat. 2331 note), also known as the “Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation”, shall—

(B) is updated periodically to ensure the curriculum includes both past and present communist and totalitarian regimes, with a focus on—

(i) ongoing human rights abuses by such regimes, such as the treatment of Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) by the People’s Republic of China; and

(ii) aggression by such regimes against democratic nations and democracy, such as actions taken by the People’s Republic of China to deter pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and the increasingly aggressive posture by the People’s Republic of China toward Taiwan, a democratic friend of the United States.

(C) is accurate, relevant, and accessible, so as to promote the understanding of such political ideologies; and

(D) is compatible with a variety of courses, including social studies, government, history, and economics classes;

She mentions Gramsci, refers to the Americas as Turtle Island, and her general rhetoric does not sound like something you'd hear from a liberal. I haven't watched any uncut vids of her before this one, and she really comes off like an actual comrade?

Such flowery words for "please chuck your perfectly functional computer in the trash and buy a new one, you rube."

My Windows 10 (formerly Windows 7) laptop has just started getting this popup when I boot it up. I'm definitely making plans, but those don't include Windows. I'm thinking I'll get a new SSD to replace the 10-year-old HDD currently in this thing and install some flavor of Linux, which will probably breathe tons of new life into it. Seriously, this laptop runs like ass currently, most likely because it's got a decade-old Windows install that I upgraded to 10 when 7 ended support, and it was already slow as molasses back then.

As for which Linux distribution, I'm open to suggestions. I've been messing with Anti-X for a few years now after I installed it on a positively ancient WinXP laptop from 2003 just to get some Linux experience. The thing is though, I mainly picked Anti-X since my main requirement was to just have something that would run on a 32-bit system from the early 2000s. I haven't really done much with that laptop since it's so underpowered- even browsing many modern websites is asking way too much from it and you can just forget about Youtube.

Since I actually regularly use this laptop I want something that can fully replace Windows and also do some light gaming. I'd like to try out the Linux Steam experience and run the Linux versions of the emulators I currently use. This laptop is from 2011, so it's not exactly a spring chicken either but it was my daily driver and main gaming machine from 2013 to about 2019. Specs-wise, it's got 8 gigs of RAM, a GeForce GT 540M GPU and an i5-450M CPU.

I assume I could also do the stuff I want with Anti-X, but since I'm not presumably as limited by hardware with this laptop I'm open to trying out different distributions. "Gaming/emulation friendly" + "Windows-like UI" would be at the top of my wishlist.

Edit: Thanks everyone, I already made a live Mint USB and tried it out. It seems pretty nice, will install it on a new SSD later stalin-approval

I know adventurism like this would probably lead to life getting worse for all of us somehow. But I'm just feeling really jokerfied lately and want to see the hogs get scared for once. I hope if it happens again they get Musk or Theil because they're so goddamn annoying, but capping an insurance board member or majority stake holder would be pretty cool.

Edit

Oops. I forgot to mention this stuff.

It's an MSNBC vid

After convincing President Biden to pardon his son Hunter, South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn is now calling for clemency for Donald Trump. "If we keep digging at things in the past, I'm not too sure the country will not lose its way," Clyburn tells MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart.

Guess Brian Thompson didn't bring his moral vest to his visit to NYC. Oh wait, that's right. He never had one because his job is to be immoral for the sake of chasing the fantastical ever growing profit margin.

Another rule: don't promote minority rule over any country, especially an Arab nationalist one, with Sunni over Shia majority or Alawi over Sunni majority. (God damn it, Baathism)

That is an unstable dynamic and contradiction waiting to happen.

In context

There is no single regulator for a private health-insurance company, even when it is found to be violating the law. For United's practices to be curbed, mental-health advocates told ProPublica, every single jurisdiction in which it operates would have to successfully bring a case against it. Thompson's murder is one symptom of the American appetite for violence; his line of work is another.

Pope Francis calls for global peace at Christmas nativity event in Vatican

VATICAN CITY, December 7, 2024 (WAFA) – In a ceremony held at the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, Pope Francis led the annual nativity scene unveiling, featuring a unique display crafted by Palestinian artisans from Bethlehem.

This year’s nativity scene, a symbol of peace and hope, was made under the auspices of the Palestinian Presidential Committee for Church Affairs, the Palestinian Embassy to the Vatican, and Dar Al-Kalima University, in collaboration with the Beitcharilo Center.

During the event, Pope Francis was joined by Ramzi Khouri, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee and head of the Palestinian Presidential Committee for Church Affairs.

Khouri conveyed the heartfelt greetings of the Palestinian people, represented by President Mahmoud Abbas, and expressed gratitude to Pope Francis for his ongoing efforts to end the genocide in Gaza and his steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.

A special moment came when two Palestinian children, representing the committee, presented Pope Francis with a Bethlehem Star award. The gesture was a powerful reminder of the suffering and sorrow endured by Palestinian children amid the ongoing Israeli war and blockade in Gaza.

In his address, Pope Francis appealed for an end to the war, saying, "Enough wars, enough violence! Did you know that one of the most profitable industries here is weapons manufacturing? Profit from killing. Enough wars!"

He expressed solidarity with those suffering worldwide due to the ravages of war, offering a prayer for peace: "As our eyes fill with tears, we lift up our prayers for peace, that peace may reign over the entire world, and for all people whom God loves."

The nativity scene, designed to draw global attention to the suffering in the Holy Land, stands at nearly 10 feet tall and features figures of the Holy Family carved from olive wood.

Notably, the nativity's baby Jesus is dressed in the Palestinian keffiyeh, and a Bethlehem Star, crafted from mother-of-pearl, bears the Latin and Arabic inscription, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill to all people."

Following the nativity ceremony, a Mass for peace and the cessation of hostilities in Palestine was held at the Angeli Chapel. The service, led by Father Ibrahim Faltas, Deputy Custodian of the Holy Land, alongside Father Ibrahim Shomali and Monsignor Marco, was attended by numerous diplomatic and political figures.
