I'm not sure why I feel this way. I don't want to get too much into anything, but when people say they create their own echo chambers Yada Yada thing, even though I would agree with that, it's interesting to see how people who believe different things, are just amongst eachother.

I wish there was a way to get all defederated or isolated instances to not necessarily federated but connect in a way where a user can see their feeds but you still can't reply if that instance has you on their blocked list idk

He should say "I've instructed my departments to compile a list of every communist, trans person, Palestinian, BLM activist, and I'm going to leave that list on my desk January 19th regardless of who's term starts the following day. Which president do you prefer has that list?" you know Blue MAGA would be ecstatic if he did that.

Of course, there will be many interpretations, but what are the defining Marxist ideas on the definition?

I ask, because you see a lot of libs and liblefts calling America fascist, but then being asked how, and not being able to respond. It makes them (and us, because we always get lumped in with them) look bad. I'd like to be able to step in if I ever witness such a thing.

I think I understand the simple model of base and superstructure (but that was Gramsci's model)

The simple use of quantitative to qualitative change, and vice versa

The simple fact that contradictions can exist in a society, manifesting in the form of problems, which are symptoms of its economic systems...

I don't think its about thesis + anti-thesis -> synthesis necessarily, as the model shows...

I think its about one economic class, like capitalist to feudal lord, dominating over one class, and absorbing its birthmark attributes, before surpassing its birthmarks overall...

Or as if a capitalist upon its created proletariat, not only ruling over them, but co-opting or destroying any of its measures

To me, its about who the ruling most HEGEMONIC class is, and how it operates...

Other than that, I don't know how else to apply it, let alone know if its somewhat broadly accurate....

Correct me if I'm wrong, if not elaborate on what ye mean?

I'm looking at doing a double feature of Al Jazeera's The Night Won’t End: Biden’s War on Gaza, which I'm hoping will be something I can push on the maddening collection of people in my life who agree that Biden is committing genocide but think they have to vote for him anyway,

and Satyajit Ray's The Adversary:

Siddhartha (Dhritiman Chatterjee) is forced to discontinue his medical studies due to the unexpected death of his father. He has to now find a job instead. In one job interview, he is asked to name the most significant world event in the last ten years. His reply is 'the plain human courage shown by the people of Vietnam', instead of the expected: man landing on the Moon. The interviewer asks if he is a communist. Needless to say, he does not get the job.

Does anyone know where one might be able to procure this book? From what I understand it's a semi-autobiographical narrative fiction by the current Hamas leader that draws heavily on his time in an Israeli prison camp. Apparently Amazon stopped selling it last month.

OK this is my list. But first, I need to say that this isn't a condemnation of those into such thing. They just don't vibe with me.

  1. Cannot get into ASMR. I've tried. Often its women 20 years younger than me, rubbing their fingernails on hairbrushes. The intentional sounds they make with their lips and fingers are things that would make me want to change seats on a bus.
  2. Instagram. I was maybe the last person to get a smart phone. It was probably 2016. I'm just fully lazy to take photos of stuff. This is a real issue when I'm single and I need to start putting photos on dating sites, as all pics of me in my phone are me squeezing carrots in my nostrils and similarly goofy things.
  3. My students' taste in anime. I try to be all cool and show off my cool taste in anime, maybe drop a Azumanga Daioh clip. It's all ancient history for 17 year olds.
  4. Photo and videos done in portrait mode. I guess I don't watch videos on the go. See #2

Things that the kids these days do better:

  • Usually better opinions on current events than people my age
  • I wish that cosplay existed when I was a teen. The default when I was younger was drugs.

If anyone insults the kids, I will visit you at your home and do an adventure-time

My husband and I have an LLC for our work doing small engine repair. Occasionally our son helps a little, but otherwise it's just us.

My husband has a close friend and former co-worker who is losing their job, and we are very busy and could use help, but we are deeply morally opposed to profiting from someone else's labor. I was thinking that perhaps we could subcontract stuff to her for a little bit, and if things are working out, then we figure out how to restructure the business.*

There is a restaurant in a nearby town that is worker-owned, but I haven't asked there for advice partly because their structure is byzantine, and idk if that comparison is apples-to-oranges because of the wildly different industries.

*I understand that sharing ownership means sharing control. I would have qualms about that with pretty much every person I know because most people aren't as obsessed with details and informed decision-making etc as I am; I am not concerned about that with this friend, because she has the same flavor of AuDHD as I do. I was undiagnosed when we met her, and our striking similarities in personalities and behaviors were a huge part of the reasons for seeking diagnosis.

Also, it's a rural area, everybody knows everybody, and she is someone with deep roots who is pretty universally loved and respected. There are few people I would trust to try to step into my life and fill in for me if I were seriously injured, but I know she would give everything as much or more care than I do. She is the best.

I just broke a trekking pole descending Galdhøpiggen. I will soon be starting the Tour du Mont Blanc and an additional thru-hike after. If I buy a new set of poles from Decathlon, can I return them after I'm done? That's what the return policy appears to say, similar to REI in the US, but I don't speak French so idk

Despite forgetting my meds earlier this week, i have bounced back mentally and want to spread some good vibes!

So, to that end, how ya doing? Been alright?

Purpose of this thread, for the newer folks, is just to open up a space to tell us about anything cool you've got going on, or vent if ya got something on your mind.

Remember, you are loved Care-Comrade

For my own part, "worked" 85 hours last week, but got paid today. Am officially caught up on rent and my internet bill, gonna chip away on power and gas next. Once those two are down, I'll officially be out of the financial hole that unemployment put me in and can pay back personal debts! Have an interview Friday for another tech job, so I can stop doing the AI training thing if it pans out (but I'd still keep it up enough to buy a nice amp head >.>)

On a not so great note, I've been finding myself craving cathinone stims the past few days. Fortunately, i don't have the money or the sources, so that works out nicely. Another positive note - 8 months without booze!

That's really all with me. Hows about you?
