Okay first of all obligatory "generational labels are bullshit" disclaimer.

But I just noticed a lot of humour made by millennials as adults is very "cutesy" and "dad joke".

If anyone grew up in the 90s or 2000s, you know that we were the total opposite as kids. Seriously it wasn't long ago where the hight of our humour was homophobia and jokes about SA. We were the fucking horrible edgelord generation.

How did we go from being kids that would beat each other up for even looking at the colour pink, to the heckin' wholesome cat video generation?

Honestly I know we make fun of ourselves for the "HECKING POGGER PUPPERINO" shit, but honestly, it's a step up from the edgelord shit we grew up with.

This is, of course, ignoring that a lot of us didn't grow out of it and became your Ben Shapiro's and your Steven Crowders (I am so sorry Zoomers, we failed you hard)

I get that pomp and circumstance is important for Brits to not become depressed, but doesn’t it become meaningless if a normal cop with his bullet proof vest and radios and cargo pants, is standing right next to your ceremonial cop who’s supposed to represent eternal tradition?

My dad's mom's family has a lot of ancestry from presbyterians from the north of Ireland. (Obvioisly I'm not irish and never will be, not one of those) I'm American

Still i'd like to visit next summer, but from what I've read... it seems still pretty sectarian over there... not something I'd like to deal with personally. Maybe just stay in the south and enjoy the sights there instead.

Are you seriously tryin to tell me they made an entire town, just for cum...?

All I see is "guy from cumtown" this, "literally a cumtown bit" that!

TOWN CUM? Sorry some of us stopped browsing reddit-logo ages ago!

No I will not search for it, might as well put penisland . com into my address bar while I'm at it. My CIA agent wondering what I'm going to "cumtown" for. Is this another one of those "podcasts" you talk so much about??

I remember coming across an image showing the votes for dissolving the USSR. Iirc, there was an almost 80% vote to keep the USSR. Anyone can help?

If you google this question, “where does fentanyl come from?” You get a results page filled with “China” and “Mexico”. I have a suspicion that the fentanyl “pouring over our southern border” narrative is mostly BS and that it’s coming from inside the house, but can anybody point me towards the facts? Thank you

I thought that during the 2020-2024 interim the Democrats were supposed to be building someone up for the next generation of the party. To no one's surprise, they've been doing exactly fuck-all for four years - but, for insiders who actually care about the party's future, who are they hanging their hat on? Voters' confidence in Kamala has tanked; Cuomo was maybe their man until the sexual harassment charges hit (side question: how was he able to skate on the nursing home scandal?). But anyway, who's the next empty neoliberal they'll run in future elections?

While this kind of thing isn't quite 'theory', it definitely has some elements of theory within it, but it also uses very grandiose writing and mythological references. This one seems to be created as a museum exhibit with some connection to Mozilla.

Is there a name for this type of essay or a way I could find more like it? This sort of thing is very fun to read even if it's not serious theory. The subject matter is more or less unimportant to me.

Like in a dehumanizing manner. I want to go by it/they/them but I'm scared I won't be able to handle it if someone does that.

I know this is like asking if there's any hens living in the foxes house, but I'm asking if any of you nerds knows anything because I've been asked by some of my international contacts if I knew of the existence of any korean groups that don't fucking suck or are filled with ghouls in the D.C area if they send a delegation there.

So far I got https://koreapeacenow.org/ and one of their coalition members https://www.womencrossdmz.org/ on my list of "they may have a presence there"

Tired of the played out “what if the Nazis won ww2.” Let’s take it back to 1914. What if the central powers won ww1?

Made a jab online about an artist posting it, and getting pushback saying that since it's creation, it has been adopted by some communist orgs.

From what I can find, it seems to have been used by a French socialist party for a few decades, but nothing beyond that that isn't socdem parties.

So i guess yeah, anyone know of any full on commie groups that have ever adopted it?

I'm searching for a video of an Israeli journalist that talks about trainers in the IDF academy and how the compare themselves favorably to Hitler and Nazis, with the only difference that they think Jews are the master race. It was about an hour long I think.

Honest to god, it was ingrained into my head as a child that he wanted to kill anyone who used a computer. But seeing how ridiculous that sounds today and how it sounds eerily similar to any critique of capitalism, I’m thinking he has parts of a communist ideal.

It really looks just like someone who could be a radical leftist but decided to become a fascist at the last minute. And it’s also so fucking absurd it helps me understand why there’s a guy that thinks everything big is an op

I guess I’m basically asking how he is read by the hexbear powers that be

My parents have had a terrible marriage for basically as long as I can remember. I have been anticipating their divorce on some level since I was about 11 (I'm now in my late 20s), and I don't know why they don't just pull the plug. In fact, I don't even know why they got married in the first place; they don't enjoy each other's company, they don't have congruent ideas or tastes on basically anything, they're basically incompatible in every way.

I think they both would have been better off if they had split up early, never gotten married and never had children together. They should have married different people, or just not gotten married at all.

The obvious implication of this, of course, is that I shouldn't have been born. This does cause me some existential discomfort. Thoughts occur to me like, "Why do I care so much about the future? Why do I pay so much attention to politics? What's the point of advocating for socialism or trying to work towards a better future? I don't have kids, I can't have kids*, I don't think I should have kids, and I don't even think my parents should have had me. In a better timeline, I wouldn't even be here anyway."

*(I had a vasectomy a few years ago)

I would like to feel a bit more assured about all of this. What do you think?

Sometimes people I just met (in a platonic context) will ask me things like "hey, what's your Instagram, let's keep in touch!"

My standard answer is that I don't do social media, but I have found that people take it as bragging perhaps? I get answers like "oh, good for you! I wish I didn't" or whatever.

If I say oh here's my number that seems too odd these days, people not that much younger than me (I'm 31) don't seem to text anymore. They use fb messenger or Instagram or others.

Also saying something like "I'm a privacy advocate and I use the fediverse" is also an odd thing to say unless I'm around techy people and even then it's weird tbh.

How do I approach this? I don't think I am better than people that use social media, its just not for me. I would prefer to text but I am not sure that works for a lot of people.

Or should I just bite the bullet and get an Instagram so that I don't seem weird, and then perhaps ask for further contact details via that platform?

Abstaining from social media can be extremely alienating.

autistic btw if you couldn't tell lmao, I have spent a lot of time thinking about this problem

I've recently been rewatching LOST, one of my favorite shows. One of the characters, Sayid Jarrah, is shown to be working for the Iraqi Republican Guard as a torturer. However, I can't help but wonder if this is projection by the empire, as I can't find any proof of Iraqi torture facilities except for Abu Ghraib. Was there ever an official torture program by the IRG as depicted in the show?

I'm curious. I know where my life diverged and where I would've been a car guy otherwise, would be interested to see what the dealio with other people is or whether they even ever thought about it
