My husband and I have an LLC for our work doing small engine repair. Occasionally our son helps a little, but otherwise it's just us.

My husband has a close friend and former co-worker who is losing their job, and we are very busy and could use help, but we are deeply morally opposed to profiting from someone else's labor. I was thinking that perhaps we could subcontract stuff to her for a little bit, and if things are working out, then we figure out how to restructure the business.*

There is a restaurant in a nearby town that is worker-owned, but I haven't asked there for advice partly because their structure is byzantine, and idk if that comparison is apples-to-oranges because of the wildly different industries.

*I understand that sharing ownership means sharing control. I would have qualms about that with pretty much every person I know because most people aren't as obsessed with details and informed decision-making etc as I am; I am not concerned about that with this friend, because she has the same flavor of AuDHD as I do. I was undiagnosed when we met her, and our striking similarities in personalities and behaviors were a huge part of the reasons for seeking diagnosis.

Also, it's a rural area, everybody knows everybody, and she is someone with deep roots who is pretty universally loved and respected. There are few people I would trust to try to step into my life and fill in for me if I were seriously injured, but I know she would give everything as much or more care than I do. She is the best.

I just broke a trekking pole descending Galdhøpiggen. I will soon be starting the Tour du Mont Blanc and an additional thru-hike after. If I buy a new set of poles from Decathlon, can I return them after I'm done? That's what the return policy appears to say, similar to REI in the US, but I don't speak French so idk

Despite forgetting my meds earlier this week, i have bounced back mentally and want to spread some good vibes!

So, to that end, how ya doing? Been alright?

Purpose of this thread, for the newer folks, is just to open up a space to tell us about anything cool you've got going on, or vent if ya got something on your mind.

Remember, you are loved Care-Comrade

For my own part, "worked" 85 hours last week, but got paid today. Am officially caught up on rent and my internet bill, gonna chip away on power and gas next. Once those two are down, I'll officially be out of the financial hole that unemployment put me in and can pay back personal debts! Have an interview Friday for another tech job, so I can stop doing the AI training thing if it pans out (but I'd still keep it up enough to buy a nice amp head >.>)

On a not so great note, I've been finding myself craving cathinone stims the past few days. Fortunately, i don't have the money or the sources, so that works out nicely. Another positive note - 8 months without booze!

That's really all with me. Hows about you?

My renewal letter says, in part, "[i]f you fail to fully execute a new lease by September 22, 2024, your lease will go to Month to Month at the rate of $0.00."

If they don't correct that, can I stay rent-free?

While Second World communism was suffering from fissures, the Third World was further united by a bit of First World bumbling. After Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal, France and Britain invaded—against Washington’s wishes—to reassert control of the waterway and oust the Egyptian leader. They were joined by the young state of Israel, whose creation had been supported by both Washington and Moscow, but eventually had to back down because of US pressure. Despite Eisenhower’s anger with the new Jewish state, Washington steadily increased support for Israel from the middle of the 1950s for Cold War reasons. It was the nascent alliances between the USSR and radical Arab nationalist regimes, we know now, that formed the basis for a growing US-Israel alliance.6

Is this true? It seems very detached from reality and no sources are given aside from a note that is kinda irrelevant to the question. Since when was the US "angry" about the foundation of Isntreal and since when was the USSR a supporter of it or even neutral to it at all? This feels like bullshit

I love No Dogs In Space, specifically for the way they describe an era thru a few episodes focusing on one band, and also describe that bands history and how it was meaningful/impactful. The chatting is cute, but not a must.
I also love Tides Of History.

I have very little money and I just need something I can use to proxy traffic (HTTP mainly for my website) from the internet back to my server on my home network so that people can't tell where I live

Any dirt cheap hosting providers that just let me access some Unix system remotely?

Unlimited destruction on """the cloud""" of course qin-shi-huangdi-fireball

Another question: who owns the domain hexbear.net, pays for the servers and such?

So as we all know, it is impossible for man to soar through the heavens as a bird does. Any attempt will lead one to be struck down from the skies for their hubris. It can't be done, Boeing is proof of this. So what if I wanted to do the next best thing?

I've heard the words "Learn to hack, learn to drone" echoed around these parts a few times. I've tried learning programming again and again, but it seems I'm just not that Type of trans woman. Instead I got really into CAD and 3d printing and remote control vehicles, so the "learn to drone" part really appeals to me. Problem is, I don't know where to start. Do I just buy a $300 DJI drone before they get banned? Do I learn how simulators work and practice a bunch first? Do fpv and bigger camera drones share a skillset? How do I not fuck up when I'm living in a big city? If I already have a transmitter, is that a cost I can save or do drones generally come with their own?

I'm also interested in reading about the ways people use drones for revolutionary purposes, for lack of a better term. I know local orgs have a need for good protest footage, but flying a drone downtown is probably super duper illegal and the new Remote ID rules would make me copbait if I were to say, sit in the bed of a leading truck and follow a march from above. Drones are super cool, but less so if a cop just shoots it down with his scifi radio gun and then tracks me down and arrests me.

By the way, has anyone ever built a drone? I already have a 3d printer and a transmitter I use for robot combat. And I'm pretty familiar with drone parts - motors made to spin propellers can also spin blades, and tiny receivers and batteries made for weight-limited flying vehicles are great for weight-limited fighting vehicles. I just don't understand flight controllers or cameras or propellers or how to pick parts or anything. It would also (with dubious legality) avoid the Remote ID issue and my homebrew drones wouldn't be banned for being Chinese spies.

So hey sickos, how do I learn to drone?

I've had a few events so far where the discussion/feedback part had 1-2 white guys doing longgggg monologues about something unrelated to the main topic. Last time had some stoner guy ranting about the confusing service at airports here (the event was about Gaza). Before that it was some boomer guy trying to explain Madonna to the non-white teens in our group (the event was about trans rights). Sometimes it's just two white guys monologuing back and forth. It's super counter productive and cringe.

I'm just thinking of a hard rule. Like "if you're a white guy, you're welcome, but please try to listen more and keep unrelated monologues to a minimum."

For the record, I am a white dude.

I have a few:

  • Chosen ones, fate, destiny, &c. When you get down to it, a story with these themes is one where a single person or handful of people is ontologically, cosmically better and more important than everyone else. It's eerily similar to that right-wing meme about how "most people are just NPCs" (though I disliked the trope before that meme ever took off).
  • Way too much importance being given to bloodlines by the narrative (note, this is different from them being given importance by characters or societies in the story).
  • All of the good characters are handsome and beautiful, while all of the evil characters are ugly and disfigured (with the possible exception of a femme fatale or two).
  • Races that are inherently, unchangeably evil down to the last individual regardless of upbringing, society, or material circumstances.

My perfectionism is disabling. I ban myself from doing anything I don't feel like I'll do perfect at. I barely do things I love and don't know my interests well. I love people and mingling, but I grew up selectively mute until highschool and to this day I have a hard time being direct. I overthink all texts. I used to type one sentence for hours and not send anything. My humor is very underdeveloped because I don't risk bombing jokes. There's so much I won't do unless someone is there encouraging me and enthusiastically approving of what I'm doing. I have severely low self esteem because of my level of perfectionism. I just want to hang out and chill with people and have interests that I act on.

Btw, what do you do when you need to do something you love, fast?

Could anyone give me a rundown on this and how it would come into play if Israel invades or launches major strikes into Lebanon? I understand their political wing holds a small minority in the government, but I’m not sure if their militant wing is endorsed or directly supported by the government.

So my dad has a cellar that is completely empty. We just store some plants there during the winter months. Now, I had an idea. In theory, I could plant around 100 mushrooms down there, right? There is a little bit of light coming in through a small window. Climate-wise, we are in Central Europe.

Is there anything I should know or be aware of? Are there any mushroom types that are beginner-friendly? I would plant them for personal consumption, for me and my relatives.

Bad Idea ? Good Idea ?
