Is it possible to do per notebook sorting on (ios) mobile version of Joplin?

Does anyone have a way of launching vim in iterm2 under osx as an external editor? I saw a empty discussion on deadit and tried a few things out so I'd love a recipe if someone else has it figured out. Thanks in advance!

Losing internal links is a common pain holding back many users from switching from one program to another. Well, fellow community member @cysacenda have just created a plugin that allows you to seamlessly replace internal links from Evernote format to Joplin format.

Since this replacement must modify your data, process is not done by default in the migration process when importing .enex files in Joplin, but with this plugin, you can make the transition with ease.

Wondering if there's a process in place for getting this done, aside from the untenable copy & paste.

Thanks!

"Capturing your thoughts anywhere" just went to yet another level!

You can simply send an email to your Joplin Cloud provided email and it will automatically create a new note for you.

This is perfect for those who are always on the go and need a quick and easy way to jot down their thoughts. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Hopefully I can get some direction here.

I''m running EndeavourOS, which is an arch based distro for any not familiar with it.

Been using Joplin for a while, and Recently started adding Icons to my Notebook Titles like so:

the icons I'm talking about

This works fine, but only with the Flatpack version of the App.

Please bear with me at this point. With the Appimage version, and the version(s) in the AUR, these Icons seem to not work for me. They show up as blank, sort of like the old Broke-image placeholders in a browser. I have no clue why.

proper theme but no icons in Appimage version

This didn't bother me much, simple solution, just keep using the flatpack. But just recently the flatpack version updated and broke my theme.

With the theme set to Dracula, the menu bar and some other elements are white and look fairly out of place:

Icons, but Broken Theme in Flatpak version

So now, if possible, I'd like to either: a) fix the theme on the flatpack version b) get the icons to show up properly on any of the other versions.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having a look again at this feature:

https://github.com/laurent22/joplin/issues/5389

The goal is to allow plugins to manage and render the note list. For example, we could imagine a plugin that renders thumbnails of the notes, or one that display the notes in a tabular format.

Those are just examples but I was wondering, if you are a plugin developer or user, what list-based plugin would you like to see or develop?

You can already see some ideas in the GitHub issue under "Example 1" and "Example 2"

It would be very useful to gather as much feedback a possible, so that we can get the implementation right from the start. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!

I have configured buckets and synced three joplin instances. One time it lasted a month. Another lasted a day. The most common error is *Got Metadata for Path but could not fetch content. * Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting this to work? I sure like concept, the best place to sync for me. And yes I can see the markdown file in the bucket so.....

Joplin for Android is almost perfect for me! Windows app changes to dark mode following system theme, but Android does not. There are night themes, but they take 3-4 clicks to switch. There have been requests over the years to make the toggle a little easier to reach but seems like not a priority. https://discourse.joplinapp.org/t/easier-night-mode-switching-in-android/20874

I even tried to use Darq with Shizuku to theme the app, but doesn't seem to work for Joplin. Sigh, maybe someday Joplin for Android will follow system theme and then it will be perfect :)

This feature inspired me to finally transcribe my pile of handwritten notes ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here's more about it

What's new in Joplin 2.11 - News - Joplin Forum

The Android mobile app now support offline voice typing - it means your voice recording does not need to be uploaded to Google or Samsung server - it all takes place on your device for added security. To make use of it, open any note, tap on the three dots menu, then "Voice typing".

The first time, the app will need to download the language files to your device:

Once they are there, simply record your message and it will appear in the note:

Allo

I'm wondering if there is a way in Joplin (or with another app?) to transcribe hand written text Into plain text.๏ฟผ๏ฟผ

Basically, I'd like to have an archive copy of my personal journal in Joplin.

I would greatly prefer something open source that runs locally. Ideally free or cheap.

Encryption was recently upgrade to use AES-256 so any app you upgrade will start using this. The problem is that apps you do not upgrade will see these encrypted notes, and will not know how to decrypt them. That will result in encryption-related errors such as a Unknown decryption method.

  • First, there is no risk for your data. It cannot currently decrypted but it still there and it is not corrupted

  • To ensure you can decrypt those notes, make sure you update all your apps. If you did so, and it still doesn't work double-check your version number. It should be:

    • Desktop: 2.11.11
    • Android: 2.11.1
    • iOS: 12.11.5
    • CLI: 2.11.1
  • All the official releases are up-to-date however some non-official channels have not updated their releases. In that case, contact the developer for that channel, or directly install our official release.

  • Once you start the upgraded version there may be some items that need to be manually processed for decryption. To do so, in the desktop app, go to Help => Sync status and click on "Retry all". In the mobile app, go to to the configuration screen, scroll down to the "Sync status" button, then press "Retry all".

Any question, feel free to ask here!

I've read people complaining on (ahem) discussion groups dedicated to other notetaking apps about how awful the mobile Joplin apps are, and how they're the reason blocking them from using the app. I don't find them awful. I find them perfectly functional and getting better with each big update. I see them as extensions to the desktop app. They don't do everything the desktop app does, but neither did Evernote when I used it. I've just finished writing an academic article using Joplin, which is my litmus test.

Keep going developers. You're doing fine, and your work is appreciated.

Hi there. I'm new to Joplin and was trying to find a way to mentally justify buying Joplin Cloud although it has Dropbox support. Is the syncing faster when using Joplin Cloud?

I think I'll end up buying it anyway because I want to support the developers but it would be nice to have an improved experience through it.

Thanks.

Like many other subs (apparently over 5000) /r/joplinapp is going dark for the duration of the blackout.

The HN thread about it (or one of them): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36283249

One of the top comment puts it nicely:

The cheek of Reddits management is incredible. They've taken hundreds of millions in VC money hired an army of developers and yet delivered nothing to improve the user experience. All we seem to have have got out of is new reddit, a terrible, slow facebook like version of the site and an absolutely terrible mobile app. Where the hell did the money go? They use the time, labour, creativity, stories, humour, talent, wisdom, advice, skills of their users to try and make themselves billionaires whilst delivering a hopeless piece of tech in return, thats only been made useable by others people writing software to make the site bearable, Reddit Enhancement suite, Apollo, RIF. And yet here they are ready to make it rubbish again to get their filthy lucre. The more I think about it the more infuriated I get.

"AI is the new electricity" (Andrew Ng)

Jarvis

Jarvis (Joplin Assistant Running a Very Intelligent System) is an AI note-taking assistant based on OpenAI's GPT-3. You can ask it to generate text , or edit existing text based on free text instructions. You will need an OpenAI account for Jarvis to work (at the moment, new users get 18$ credit upon registering, which is equivalent to 900,000 tokens, or more than 600,000 generated words).

Disclaimer

  • This plugin sends your queries to OpenAI (and only to it).
  • This plugin uses your OpenAI API key in order to do so (and uses it for this sole purpose).
  • You may incur charges (if you are a paying user) from OpenAI by using this plugin.
  • Therefore, always check your usage statistics on OpenAI periodically.
  • It is also recommended to rotate your API key occasionally.
  • The developer is not affiliated with OpenAI in any way.

Installation

  1. Install Jarvis from Joplin's plugin marketplace, or download it from github .
  2. Setup your OpenAI account .
  3. Enter your API key in the plugin settings page.

Usage

  • Text generation: Run the command "Ask Jarvis" (from the Tools menu) and write your query in the pop-up window, or select a prompt text in the editor before running the command.
  • Text editing: Select a text to edit, run the command "Let Jarvis edit selection" (from the Tools menu) and write your

Joplin 2.10 is here and here are some amazing improvements and bug fixes, with a focus on the mobile app.

New design for "New note" and "New to-do" buttons

If there is enough space, the button labels will be shown in full:

While for those who prefer a more narrow note list, only the button icons will be shown:

It's a small improvement, but we're confident it will make the app even more intuitive for new users.

Android app is available in the Play Store

Latest version, 2.10, is now back in the Play Store and ready for download!

Biometrics support

To make your experience even more secure, Android and iOS apps now support biometric unlock! With just a quick scan of your fingerprint or Face ID, you can unlock your app in no time. To enable this beta feature, just head over to the settings and click on "Use biometrics to secure access to the app".

Support for multiple profile

Multiple profiles are now supported in mobile app! To create a new profile, simply go to the Configuration screen and click on "Manage profiles" under the Tools section.

From there, you can easily add or remove profiles as needed.

Once multiple profiles are setup, you will see a new option in the sidebar to quickly toggle from one profile to another:

Once you've set up multiple profiles, you can easily toggle between them using the new option in the sidebar. This feature is perfect for separating your personal and work notes into independent collections.

Support for realtime search

Mobile app now has an improved search function that performs text searches in real time! No more waiting for the search results to load, they'll appear instantly as you type.

Improved filesystem sync performance

Thanks to the hard work of jd1378, the sync no longer freezes during filesystem synchronisation. We know how frustrating that can be, and we're thrilled to have solved this issue. Getting filesystem sync to work on Android is never easy due to the restrictions put in place by Google, especially since they frequently change, but we're committed to delivering the best possible experience for our Android users.
