Over the past couple months I've had the pleasure to help develop and iterate this bike. 3 swingarms, 3 subframes, 2 forks & leading links, 2 seats, and a few different shock lengths to get to this point. It's going on a 1000 mile journey this weekend to check suspension geometry and highway cruising behavior. Hopefully only a few small tweaks if any afterwards other than cosmetics.

So on my ride home today I’m in the left lane in moderate traffic on a 40mph 4-lane road with a center turn lane. As usual I’m trying to stay just left of the SUV in front of me so I can see the traffic ahead and give myself an escape route in case someone comes flying up from behind. The SUV however, I’m assuming thought I was planning to use the center turn lane (which is share by both sides of the traffic) to pass. So the farther left I would go in the lane, the farther left she went until we were both over the double yellow and half a car width into the center lane. She actually almost hit a truck that was using the center lane to turn. My first lizard brain thought of course was just to blow past this nimrod and show her! Thankfully I took a beat to relax and think it through. Instead, when we came up to the next stoplight I pulled up beside her driver side, opened my helmet so she could see my warm and loving smile and knocked on her window. I told her that I noticed the farther over left I got, the farther she did and then explained to her why I was trying to be to the left (and several car lengths behind of course) of her vehicle. It allows me to see the traffic ahead and gives more reaction time if something is happening. It gives me an escape route if a car comes flying up behind me that likely doesn’t even see me. I was extremely polite and tried to convey this in my warmest tone. For her part, she thanked me for explaining and was also very nice. Just wanted to share this because I’m fully aware of the many other ways it could have gone. I could have let it piss me off and ruin my great riding vibe. Worse, that anger could have distracted me causing me to ride too fast, possibly do something truly stupid like punch out one of her mirrors (ok, that’s just really not me at all, but I’ve seen other riders do it to cars that upset them), or even get in a wreck. All because of a simple misunderstanding easily rectified with a few kind words. And I got to enjoy the rest of my ride with a smile and the hope that maybe she’ll be more understanding as well with the next biker. Of course I also left the light faster and wasn’t behind her anymore either LOL. Happy riding everyone!

First Big Bike (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Hi all

Im happy to report that I recently passed my full motorcycle license. Ive been riding for a good couple of years on my 125 and im itching really hard to buy my first big bike.

Found this Suzuki Bandit very local to me and I was wondering if maybe somebody could advise.

Im having second thoughts because its a big engine and because its pretty old.

I was thinking about trying to get this bike down to 2000

Thanks in advance

What a way to start the day. Had a spare, so it added a few minutes to my morning. Carefully cleaned the dust from around the plug, swapped, started and rode.

NBD, but what the fuck?

Im cool now (lemmy.world)

I posted about this a few days ago. Thought id share that I got the bike!

02 Yamaha 225 xt in what appears to be excellent condition, 3600 miles for $2800.

A very knowledgeable and helpful father and son showed it to me and help me lift it into the truck which was very appreciated.

Was going to ride it today but the cold weather was too much for the dying battery. Still, im pumped!

New rider looking for an entry level dual sport. XR 150 seems perfect. I knew it would cost more to have a new bike but an extra $900 in delivery/setup? Ive got no intention of paying. Im just bitchin. See what yall think?

Rode my brand new Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel '22 home from the dealer yesterday. It was around 0°C. I'm very glad my new bike has heated grips 😃. The visor got so cold that my breath caused perspiration on the pinlock. But now it's home, finally! Bought it in November.

Hi guys! I've been a kinda long term user of Freedconn camera/bluetooth/intercom combos, and I've been more or less happy with them. I've had up until now the more basic R1, then upgraded to two R1-Plus for me and my partner. These have been working very reliably for the last few years, but the weather hasn't been kind in one of them (mine). The charging lid fell off a long time ago, and with rain slowly seeping through I've seen some some annoying behaviors that might be linked to it... and it might need be needing a replacement soon.

I see the new R3 is supposed to have better video image, although I'm not sure how good will it perform in the night? Are car plates readable? With the R1 it takes some hard guessing due to the dark/bright contrast blinding the camera from showing the plate properly.

I also noticed the R3 also includes a "music share" function, which is interesting, but I wonder if that interrupts the normal intercom functionality? Or how does that work? Any ideas? Thanks!

Alternatively, is there any other camera/headset/intercom combos out there with similar/better qualities for a similar price?

Thanks!

Got this as my first jacket and have been using it in the heat, in rain and in freezing weather. It really is the one jacket for all situations.

The only thing that bothers me is that the shop where I got it only had it in black. The other colorways look a lot better!

Horn (lemmy.world)

Looking at the Denali soundbomb, wondering if anyone here has and likes/dislikes it or has a suggestion of another horn to look at.

So far I found that l/motorcycles is the biggest and most active on lemmy.world, is there any other that my search couldn't find?

If you could have any three production motorcycles, with any budget, what would you pick?

I'll go first:

  1. Yamaha R1 (Sport riding and trackdays, also crossplane sound)
  2. Triumph Tiger 900 GT (touring and adventure riding with an actually manageable seat height)
  3. Honda Grom (for just hooning around for when I want a small light bike)

Just curious to see if any of you out there have been observing any trends that might lead to new motorcycle legislation - for better or worse. I noticed that for 2024 Nebraska surprisingly repealed their motorcycle helmet law making it optional for wear. Definitely raised an eyebrow as they still criminalize lane splitting.

I try to stay on the optimistic side for lane filtering eventually passing here in Virginia but seeing how we are one of only two states where radar detectors are illegal, I think it's fair to say we may just stay in stasis for a while. Anyone else optimistic or pessimistic on new moto laws for this year?

it’s a Scorpa trial bike. Not street legal, obviously.
