I should have been doing something constructive but I've been tinkering with my neofetch instead, here's how it looks now 😀

This might not be worthy of this community, it's what I've got. I think this screenshot still looks alright, though. Hope you enjoy.

I made this post mainly as discussion and suggestion for mods and posting people.

Browsing through this community (and before that, r/unixporn or r/usabilityporn on Reddit) feels a bit like wandering through a shopping catalogue. Sadly, a bad organised one.

Sometimes, I just enjoy looking at the awesome configs of other users and see what some WMs or DEs (or, to be more precise, their users!) are capable of, without any intentions to replicate it.
It's more of a "Oh, that looks neat, take my upvote!", but not much more. Similar to an art gallery.

And sometimes, I use it to find some inspiration and to recreate/ apply it on my setup.
In that regard, I always have a hard time sorting out or finding the right stuff.

Say, for example, if I want a good looking KDE setup, and I search for "Light mode", "Minimalist", "Elegant", or some other term, individually, I get random stuff like an anime hyprland configuration or someone posting their Cinnamon setup, because it had above keyword in the title. Meanwhile, the exact thing I searched for is named "Here's my comfy KDE style" and isn't listed in my results.
On Reddit, it was just as bad. And it's not because of the search capability, it's because of missing information.

If I search for all keywords together, I of course don't find anything because it's too restricted.

A question mainly for the mods: For future search accessibility, what do you think about making a rule (or, at least suggestion) to include category key words (for example "Hyprland, neon, anime, modern, dark mode, minimalist") aswell as the exact things used (icon theme, dotfiles, etc.) in the description?

In that way, we maybe could make an automated website/ category catalogue where we can filter and search better, where we can search hierarchically, e.g. "Desktop Environments > Plasma > Light mode > Modern" and see all posts linked there.

Another idea would be to link them in the sidebar, e.g. "List of Light KDE themes" or "Captppucin window managers".

What do you think of that?

I saw some screenshots from people using ROFI with something like tabs to change from the apps selector to the power menu, to the clipboard, to you name it menu. Here is an example. Would you share some more configurations like this one? I really like the idea of having all the menus at the same place with just one key binding. Also, I'd like to know how to configure ROFI better, and I think I can learn a lot from these kinds of configurations.

Introducing the all-new Debian 12 ESDE (Enhanced Security Desktop Edition) Plasma UI pre-alpha v0.2.1: a Debian desktop setup created for a fiction organization's low-end office computers. It features simplified KDE apps, no blur, generally lightweight system settings (some features are disabled or tuned for higher performance and security) and a custom auto-hide floating panel (on the right) with a large clock and a system monitor overview. Security features are planned and are not added yet. For now the main issue is that it's quite difficult to use scroll bars on full-screen windows because the panel opens every time the mouse cursor touches the right edge of the screen. Would love a solution for this. And it often crashes in certain scenarios so yea it's just a pre-alpha now. Oh and the specs:

Distribution: Debian 12 DE/WM: KDE Plasma 5.27 Theme: Breeze Dark Icons: Papirus (it would be more realistic to use the stock icons but I just hate how folders look there so custom icon pack it is) Apps: Konsole, Dolphin (Qt apps) and Firefox (GTK 3 app)

The Debian logo on the top left just opens a slightly tuned KDE's Application Menu so I didn't show that. Everything else isn't really ready yet. Well, could you expect more from a bad setup?

P.S. The actual purposes of this post are to show the flexibility of KDE and deleted

Back then I was using fedora 38 KDE, and I was looking for other options b/c KDE was causing some issues on fedora. Used Mint XFCE for a brief time, then used OpenSUSE Leap & Tumbleweed before finally moving to Debian (current) setup.

I switched to OpenSUSE from Fedora 38. This was back in Nov 2023. Had used fedora for around 1 yr or so and used opensuse after that for few months before I finally switched to Debian.
