Lemmy is going to look more appealing as time goes on.

I left after they closed off the API and shut down third party apps. I could never go back, whilst Lemmy hasn't always offered the same amount of content, its always still offered good content, plus I know I'm guilt free of supporting Reddit and what a shit show they've become ๐Ÿ™‚

Same, but then I immediately returned to reddit. Today I suddenly realized I wanted to leave reddit, so here I am again. Any good tips for Android apps?

[โ€“] Saurok@lemm.ee 2 points 4 hours ago

I use Jerboa currently. I was using Relay for reddit and the two aren't really similar, I just switched to it because I saw it recommended the most when I was leaving reddit during the API fiasco. I haven't tried any of the other apps because I'm used to this one now and it gets the job done.

Summit is da bomb

I've used Connect since I came over a year ago. I used Joey back on Reddit.

Voyager is my go-to.

I see sync recommended too, but I would recommend against that one. I had to buy it for reddit twice because the dev invalidated the license and took away premium features on an upgrade. So I'm not using their shit ever again.

Sync, I used it for reddit before they fucked the API. And now I use it for Lemmy. It's one of the smoothest apps I've ever used.

I really loved sync for reddit, but development on the app is pretty inconsistent and there's currently some major bugs/unsupported features. For example I can't currently view comments on posts from SJW.

[โ€“] jwelch55@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Hmm I don't have any issues like that, moved over on the initial sync for Reddit closing

[โ€“] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently it's an issue with newer versions of the Lemmy software. I can see posts from SJW and the number of comments, but if I click through on them I can't see any of the comments. It's been reported on the discord but no updates. There's also other stuff like the fact that sync can't deal with showing separate upvotes and downvotes, so you have to just show score. Lots of little random glitches from differences between reddit and Lemmy.

The author of sync basically goes completely off the grid for long periods of time (presumably due to irl priorities) and doesn't work on sync during these periods. It's always been a thing with sync. But Lemmy changes more frequently than reddit so the bugs can be more frustrating. I'm considering changing apps, honestly, because not being able to see comments on my home instance is driving me crazy. But I do really like sync's interface.

[โ€“] jwelch55@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Yeah the consistent interface has been easy to keep using. I tried a couple others but nothing really felt right. Probably going to be worth checking out new options at some point, just haven't had enough issues with sync to really try

What is SJW? I love Sync for Lemmy.

Summit is pretty good, and the dev is very responsive in !summit@lemmy.world

The 2 specific communities I want to read without a mirroring one in the fediverse I still read through RSS.

Yead is better than using web or their app. And still get my fix.

I use Boost for Lemmy (paid for, so no ads etc.). It's what I used for Reddit, so the transition was super easy, but there's lots of FOSS Lemmy clients on F-Droid that are good too.

[โ€“] Shameless@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I also use Boost as I was using that back on Reddit. Voyager is also an excellent Lemmy app too.
