Or is it only the 3 that you can pick from where you can create an account in settings?

Still new so trying to work this out.

Is Connect for Lemmy only federated with a few instances?

For example I wanted to join lemdro.id As it's the replacement for /r/Android But when I search it's seemingly not there.

From what I can tell that is the Instance, and within it are communities. Are we able to add additional instances? Or even post across them? (I think I'm on lemmy.world?)

Using Connect for Lemmy, you can login to accounts from any Lemmy instance, not just the 3 your presented with.

Where your home instance is, doesn't really matter, you can subscribe to communities on other instances.

If you search with this format you should be able to find communities on other instances !community@instance.tld

The exclamation is important in case your instances doesn't have that communities info store on their servers yet. It'll force your instance to search for that info on the other instance.

Lemdro.id is another instance, but you can subscribe to their android community on lemmy.world if you follow that formatting

Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure what you meant in the last paragraph.

I did !android@lemdro.id And it found it and I'm subscribed though. So I'm getting there. Seems somewhat long winded finding new communities and connecting to them, maybe it can improve in the future.

I have some other less tech savvy friends who have dropped Redidt and I think it'll take them some time here.

Think that was just a typo from sausage fingers on my phone. It's edited now. Yeah Lemmy is for the tech savy now but to keep it as simple as possible, just using the formatting I mentioned in my previous post

(and find communities using lemmyverse.net)
