It’s really hard for me to identify with a Reddit user who is enraged because thank-you coins and awards are being ditched. I never cared about that aspect of Reddit or got involved with it. However, taking things away from people is a really easy way to piss them off. That part I think I can grasp.
I hated the "coin culture" with a passion (hey, look, it's Bill Gates, let's give him tons of paid emoticons he won't care about!), but it's clear this move is part of Reddit's further enshittification. You can bet whatever replaces coins will be even shittier, and I think Reddit's users know it.
My bet? NFTs.
