Wondering if we'll get another format war at some point or if people will just accept streaming and owning nothing

Since I've not heard of a new format coming out I can only assume purchasing will be out the windows. However, that just means they get less of my money. I don't mind renting movies if I'm unsure of the movie, but unless I can own a digital copy I'd never get one. The only reason I have any more is because they came "free" with the disc I purchased.
