The Lyrics Game

Anybody can post a challenge.

The rules of the game are simple, take any song you like from any genre you want, put the lyrics through any AI [you may weight lyrics as the AI allows] that you want and post the resulting image here under the post title Name That Song [GENRE]. After 48-72 Hours or if the answer is guessed sooner, edit the post's title to [Solved][Genre] and put the song title and artist (and optionally any highlighted lyrics) in a spoiler tag in the body of the post.

Other than that, enjoy.

Here is a list to a few AI image generators you can use.

As is, once a post is solved it's revealed in the name, but this means you can't then try to guess already solved posts - only new ones. If we reveal the answer in a spoiler in the post body instead, the sub's historical posts will remain playable for new players to practice.

Here's an idea. How about editing the title to [Solved] [Genre] and in the body put the title and artist in a spoiler? The problem before was just adding the solved tag to the title.

spoilerAnswer would go here

Works for me.

I like it. My understanding is that spoiler tags don't always work across all instances, or maybe it was platforms. But it should work for most users and if anyone has a problem with it, we can cross that bridge later.

If not that then at least make people keep the genre tags in the title. If someone marks something super specific and it’s not even the right genre I reserve the right to fight them

This is a good idea! Changing the post title just kills the game for others.

The reason the title gets edited is the way Lemmy handles related posts. Everytime you post, the related post list grows so until that changes, we will have to edit the title. Solved tags do not solve the problem, that was already tried.

How about when solved make a spoiler and change the title to still name that song ... Would that be closer to a solution?

[–] philo@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That would still leave the original problem.

How about a "solutions" post containing all solutions as one comment each. This way the host of the song question could post the solution and perhaps a bit of trivia about the song. A simple title change to [Solved] and a permalink to the solution content in the solution.

You mean one meta solution thread for all posts which would become unwieldy very quickly and I have no idea who would manage that, or do you mean one for each post?

[–] balootgaloot@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Somewhere in the middle of those ideas. Perhaps a weekly solutions thread. The idea is the solution isn't just a spoiler and we don't even need to look directly into the thread just a permalink from the song post to the solution comment. Come to think of it, I was just assuming there is a permalink to comment feature like on that previous site that shall not be named.

[–] balootgaloot@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Something like this But picture the topic and the thread is solutions for this week. I found my comment permalink by brute force, it'd be nice to have that available. I'll have to look at the source.

TBH, that sounds like much more work than I'm able to handle. So far, the best solution seems to be changing the title to [Solved} [Genre] and in the body of the post putting the title and artist (and maybe the highlighted lyrics) in a spoiler.

For example, my Free Fallin post would have been

[Solved][Rock]

spoilerFree Fallin' by Tom Petty

All the vampires, walkin' through the valley Move west down Ventura Boulevard
