Maybe use Matrix or XMPP for that? They're both much better than the dumpster fire discord is.

What client do you use for matrix? I'm still shopping around.
Element on desktop and Schildichat, a fork of Element, on mobile. I used to use element on mobile too but it was soooooo slow. Also, which homeserver are you going to use? Don't use matrix.org, it's too full and slow. envs.net or tchncs.de are cool. If you want, I can register you an account on my own server, gregtech.eu.

There are probably people on YT who do this live? Discord, not sure, but you could try Twitch during the debate and you might find one?
The subtitles are live right? Should be ez enough to make a bot that dumps that into a channel

Discord? No idea. Some instances like Hexbear do this, depends on what kind of people you want to talk with.
