First, I’m on macOS and use qbittorrent. Thing we’re working properly until about a week ago.

None of the files will download properly. For instance if I download a movie, the data is there but not the actual video. This is the same for audiobooks, books, and games. When I go to open the file it says the application is unavailable?

I’ve tried reinstalling qbit, I’ve tried turning off my VPN, I’ve even wiped the computer and reinstalled everything. I also tried the force download thingy, and tried different torrent clients. Nothing as worked. Google has also failed me, but I may have been using the wrong keywords. I’m still newish to pirating (it’s been over a decade since I last pirated anything).

I’ve downloaded the same files onto my husbands MacBook to see if it was the file or my computer. It’s my computer. So I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and/or if anyone knows how to fix it.

Thank you.

'none of the files will download properly'

If the file is done downloading 100%, the suitable s/w is all what you need. Check the best ones out there. Happy times! 😌

The files are downloading but like say I downloaded a movie, the actual movie won’t download just the other files.

So the actual file is missing in your downloaded directory? Seems like somebody being upto tricks. Possibly the uploader is a dubious one.

It was my video player. Downloaded VLC and everything works now!

Yeah. It’s not the uploader, I downloaded the exact same files on my husbands computer and they worked fine.

ETA: I thought the same things. Bullshit uploader, malware. But it’s not, it’s my computer. I went so far as to factory reset and wipe the drive. It changed nothing.

What's the file extension of the biggest file in the download? (i.e. *.MP4 or *.mkv etc.). Depending what it is you may need to download a player capable of opening or playing or extracting that file.

It was the video player! Everything is working perfectly with VLC! Thank you so so much!

Hmm okay. I grabbed a random example (GotG2). Biggest file is .mp4 (2.1gb).

Is there a player you recommend?

Duh, I’m an idiot lol. Thank you so much. I’ll see if that fixes it.

You're not an idiot. Everyone has to figure these things out once.

Oh I know, I just completely blanked that VLC is even a thing.

Where are you downloading these files from? It sounds like you're downloading a bunch of fake files that are really just malware.

This was my thought as well, which is why I downloaded them on my husbands computer. The same files. They work fine on his computer. It’s not the files, it’s my computer.

ETA: I use 1337x mainly.

You tried/thought abt joining pvt trackers?

These are the trackers that are by definition 'private'. More like sites that you need to have an account to access and they keep a ratio abt a member's downloading acts. Tremendous advantages - Quick releases, many versions, ability to ask for reseeding, etc. You Ofc download via torrent files.

Torrentleech is a good place to start with.

Ahh okay. Thanks for the info! I will look into that!

Ensure that you choose a reputable tracker. Don't hesitate to ask if you are not sure. Best of luck!
