the image is missing the heavily armed police on the royalty's side as well as the masses of pawn who are unaware of it.

The heavily armored police are the rook and knights.

but they're represent at the same level as the royalty. i don't doubt that many of them believe that they're a member of the ruling class irl; but they aren't in actuality.

Should the bottom row be the same color as the pawns?

Assuming the pawns are on the opposing side, I think if you were to try and play this out, some of of the pawns would make it to the bottom row and become queens or any other higher piece. How should that fit into the analogy?
