This just really made my blood boil. How the deputies are taunting this kid with saying stupid shit like "Can we put him down?" "How much for the doggy in the window?" constant taunts about going in a restraint chair. Not only did these braindead idiots taunt and abuse a very vulnerable 19 year old they attempted to keep it hidden for nearly 2 years by not releasing any documents or videos relating to this matter. Below is the contact information for the Washington Township's administration in Montgomery County, Ohio that is 100% responsible for overseeing every one of their brain dead deputies.

They deserve to have "pig" branded on their foreheads and tossed into the worst genpop in the country for however long they have left in this world. The world will be a better place when them and everyone like them has been pushed out of society.

High school bullies with a gun! ACAB

This is atrocious. I don't know how those people can live with themselves. Or how they can so so quickly dehumanize another to justify to themselves the way they treat another human being. And how not uncommon that capacity is in our culture but especially in police and COs.

I really can't put myself through watching this video. The screenshot is horrible enough. What a senseless tragedy.

It's really rough. If I was taken in again without my meds I could see myself ending up in a similar state. Luckily I know my rights and the police would never have entered my home in the first place. With the warrant though they would have taken him anyway.

Please tell me there is a lawsuit forthcoming

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't you mean paid leave and reassignment to a new police department?

Things like this should be a firing squad not a lawsuit

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lawsuits for change for the better. They both set case president and hold the department liable for damages.

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Remember that department liability ultimately just means your tax dollars. The cops don’t pay directly from their salaries, pensions, etc and often their budget is unaffected

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Indeed. These judgements should come from the cops' pension funds. Not the taxpayers.

Oh I don’t mean to imply that one shouldn’t litigate, to be clear. More that we should push for legislation that cause actual consequences to police who do terrible things, eg they have to pay settlements out of pension funds and/or carry malpractice insurance that they pay for

I work in healthcare. I pay several thousand dollars a year out of my pocket for malpractice insurance so that if I fuck up you can sue me and be paid a settlement that is not covered by taxpayers. I take Medicaid and Medicare so I receive some taxpayer funding like police (not nearly as much) but when I fuck up I have to pay the price. Why shouldn’t they be held to the same standard? We might see some real reforms if their wallets are on the line.

Ending or significantly reforming qualified immunity would also be necessary as that is bullshit

Orrrrrrrrrr burn it all down and start over. Law enforcement in America is rotten

Well I'd prefer if we didn't burn it all down. That sounds like a lot of death followed by an actual dictator. The US constitution is very powerful and is a great tool for justice. I think more people need to understand US law and the legal system. People just assume they are powerless when in reality they might have a strong case.

I think the topic you are looking for is qualified immunity. Most people think it covers police all the time but in reality it only applies to reasonable human errors. There was a court case years ago where a identity twin committed a series of crimes in his brothers name. The innocent brother was arrested and then later tried to sue. The lawsuit wasn't successful since the police had no way of knowing they had the wrong guy. He was released once they figured it all out and all was good for the most part.

On the other side of the coin, sometimes police can be held liable for negligence if they screw up in a way that isn't considered reasonable. There was a court case where a women was arrested after getting off a cruise and detained for prolonged period of time. The person that was suppost to be arrested was in a totally different state and the officers involved all refused to check the victims ID. She looked nothing like the suspect and was arrested because of some unknown reason. In that case there was grounds for liability because a reasonable person would've checked the woman's ID. No one involved in the case thought to check her ID despite the fact that she kept stating her name and asking for them to check her ID.

I did mention qualified immunity

all I know is that I’ve worked in mental health for a long time and a great deal of that time was spent working in mobile crisis units. These worked closely with police, as at the time 988 didn’t exist so people called 911 during crisis. The police we worked with were overwhelmingly the most callous, cruel, and disgusting people I have ever come across in my life. News reports show that this is not a local issue but a national one.

I am not surprised by what happened to this man. This is a systemic issue. That is why I say the system of policing needs to be dismantled. The people involved are all either scumbags that get off on being cruel or people that are willing to turn a blind eye to such behavior.

Additionally I left that job because reporting police misbehavior to supervisors multiple times resulted in absolutely no consequences. I would not be surprised to find out if all of those cops still work there or are promoted to supervisory positions as it’s been like a decade. The rot is deep and the protections for their misbehavior run rampant

Surely you mean their budget is increased to pay for “better training”.

aka “to buy a tank”

When I was watching the video I noticed that there seemed to be four deputies mentioned in the incident reports even though there were over 12 at times. Deputy C. Blum, Deputy B. Holzfaster and Deputy M. Klumb and the 3 police officers that went to his house. I could see it being easier to sue the department than 4 deputies and the 3 police officers even though the officers themselves need to be punished
