Oof, the 'how to get started' section of that page makes all the classic mistakes.

  • sends people to join-lemmy - no, send them to an instance. Don't make them choose.
  • "just choose any instance" - uhh yeah we know what happens when they do that. *.ml happens.
  • says which communities to join by using their https url. When people click that link they'll end up on a different instance to the one they signed up on.

In addition it recommends joining the communities BEFORE signing up. The order is wrong.
