Summary

A leaked TSA email suggests funding for bomb-sniffing dogs has been halted under Elon Musk.

The email states that vet visits, kenneling, and food are "put on hold" until further guidance.

TSA deploys over 1,000 canine teams, with training costing $33,000 per dog.

The funding freeze contradicts Trump’s "tough on crime" stance and coincided with the White House celebrating "K9 Veterans Day."

Just because Republicans SHOOT their Puppies and DEFUND Dogs DOESNT mean they HATE Dogs!

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Just here for my daily question of: How the fuck does this man have the authority to "order" fucking anything within my government?

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Millions of DNC voters stayed home in the 2024 election and known pro-billionaire convicted felon Donald Trump won the presidency.

Now that still technically doesn't give him the power to create a new office. Instead, they kicked everyone out of the digital services office and changed the sign on the door to DOGE. Now that STILL didn't give him power over other offices and the budget, so they've instead been working alongside traitors in the treasury and fighting the courts over legitimacy of their firings and funding freezes.

I heard republicans canceled many votes tirelessly looking for small mistakes

The last time a major terrorist attack happened, the government got expansion of powers.

This is preparing for the next 9/11, reichstag-fire style.

And the dems will approve the Enabling Act.

And the dems will approve the Enabling Act.

if the patriot act is any indication, yes.

Yeah Elon Musk is a sick fuck, though lets be real. We all knew he wasn't above something like this, this is just proving what we all knew about him. It's still horrible though.

[–] firadin@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

This is going to be the thing that gets white people off the train. Being mean to the dogs.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 13 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

i'd wager good money they ignore it

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

They didn't give a shit about kristi noam.

[–] jimjam5@lemmy.world 18 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

If it’s not already a thing we should start a live tracker of Elon’s current or last known whereabouts. For academic purposes.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 9 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Like the Elon flight tracker?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 hours ago

Maybe some brave air traffic controller can take one for the team and send his plane into the Atlantic Ocean.

[–] jimjam5@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

Yes, but I was thinking of a system with more … granularity and resolution. Maybe take the flight tracker and add to it, like noting the color of the vehicle he got in and its plate number. For research. Let’s say it’s to help calculate his efficiency with tax payer dollars.

[–] reiterationstation@lemm.ee 8 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

This is some unhinged shit. Is it the drugs? Is it the Putin?

[–] xye@lemm.ee 4 points 4 hours ago

Can we please stop blaming ‘drugs’ or ketamine specifically, even when joking. This is seriously hurting its reputation and future use as a therapeutic option. It might not feel like a big deal but every time we say this it normalizes it. Not targeting you specifically just trying to call it out any time I see it - thank you.

[–] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Putin. Not even once kids.

[–] danciestlobster@lemm.ee 3 points 5 hours ago

Poutine though, more than once!

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

Hoping to kick off a war when a bomb does slip through the cracks.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 38 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I pray everyday for a poetic Mussolini ending for Musk

Nah, he's cutting corners in bomb detecting dogs, it's gonna be a Carrero Blanco 2 electric boogaloo

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

So how does it go down when a moral human is forced to respond to this? Curious to get a scenario where an unelected bureaucrat tells you to ignore congress?

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 19 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

Beyond animal cruelty, you NEED bomb sniffing dogs! Holy shit! Do they realize that now potential bombers would have a huge upper hand in carrying explosives into airports? Why don't they say 'well those metal detectors and xray machines are too fancy' and go back to the late 60s when there was a hijackings once every 5.6 DAYS.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

That's actually really shocking. I looked it up, and you're correct. Hijackings were extremely common in the 60s and 70s.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

They'll still feed the drug sniffing dogs, though.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 3 points 13 hours ago

Why don't they say 'well those metal detectors and xray machines are too fancy'

I'm sure they'll cut maintenance budgets too, it just takes x-ray machines longer to starve

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Paging D.B Cooper.

[–] booly@sh.itjust.works 18 points 23 hours ago

Oh well I'm sure the cabinet secretary who oversees TSA will get right on that oh wait she loves killing dogs too

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Musk: The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy. The empathy exploit. They're exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response. So, I think, you know, empathy is good, but you need to think it through and not just be programmed like a robot.

That’s definitely something a malignant narcissist would say

Elon orders government. They said it out loud.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

Sounds like those dogs should start letting bombs through to me.

Every time I read something about the USA in the last few weeks I think "Wow that's shitty. How can it get worse?"

In short order, the answer to my question is served up. I find it worse when the victims cannot speak or stand up for themselves. Though horrible things are happening to a wide range of victims at least they can protest, take action etc. The dogs cannot. I only hope that the handlers make sure the welfare of these animals is taken care of despite the order. They do not deserve to be pawns in the MAGA game, but then no one does.

Failing to feed and look after animals you are responsible of is animal abuse and illegal.

[–] zarathustra0@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

Failing to feed and look after animals you are responsible of is animal abuse and illegal.

All that's going to happen is the people who the dogs live with will end up buying them food. As if they would starve a member of their family.

I have an idea for what we could feed those dogs.

[–] unlogic@lemmy.zip 1 points 30 minutes ago

Oh lord. The residual ketamine might kill them

Having dog handlers pay for the dogs they need for work is totally in line with having teachers pay for teaching tools.
