I am looking to do some upgrades to my server and I was wondering which NAS branded hard drive has the best experience (or the worse track record) for Warranty and RMA.

Worst is the Western Digital Red drives that are SMR. They are branded as NAS drives but should not be used in anything ZFS. WD caught some heat for making this switch without telling people a couple years ago, even got some legal trouble I think. WD red pro is the one you want. At one point they were swapping them out for CMR drives for folks.

I just buy refurbished spinners that are enterprise.

Exos. Ultrastars usually. I’ve had not problems and they are cheap as chips.

Get a refurbished enterprise drive. What does your system support - SAS or SATA?
