So I was thinking about repurposing and old AMD A10 motherboard and processor into a 3rd proxmox server mostly to make quorum. But when booting it up, there is a very annoying squealing sound coming from near the processor. It's definitely not a fan as I've already stopped them from spinning and the sound continued. I don't know for sure that it's from the proc as it could be some other near by component. Any ideas? I'm thinking about re-pasting the processor to see if that will help. But other than that I'm not sure. Maybe a cap is going bad?

Probably inductors noise from the CPU power rails right next to the CPU. Not much you can do about it.

Welcome to the world of capacitors and chokes.

Basicly: The power delivery to your CPU is the squeely bit.

Does it sound like coil whine?

Yeah I think so.

You sure if it's not an alarm coming from the motherboard? Does it POST properly?

Oh definitely not an alarm. Too faint. And yeah, posts fine and has OS loaded. No errors anywhere. Just a little whine.
