Are you sure it's not the language thing?
Maybe you've unselected undetermined or English in your account.

Home of the sh.itjust.works instance.
My language is set to English
I'd check if undetermined is still enabled, as many people don't select a language when posting and if you've deselected it, you won't be able to see posts that don't have a chosen language
So I tried with Undetermined and English, neither works.
I really wish Lemmy did away with these useless language settings, anyway.
Something's not right. If I browse my sub feed by Hot, I see posts from 2-3 years ago.
Don't browse by Hot, that filter is broken. Use top day, top 6 hours, and/or New. None of them are perfect but you can quickly view most of the content if you switch between them. They will fix the Hot and Active filters eventually but for now it's a bit DIY.
Damn my feed looks much better now that I'm top day/top 6 hrs. I had no idea hot and active weren't ideal. I thought that was just a lemmy thing.
Glad I could help
IIRC, the "Hot" thing is a known bug in Lemmy that can be temporarily fixed by restarting the instance. Also IIRC, the admin restarted sh.itjust.works like a week ago, and "Hot" was working immediately after that, for at least a few days.
I'm still using mostly "Top 6 Hours" until the sorting algo for "Hot" and "Active" is improved.
But it doesnt change te fact that some of my subs are much more active / populated when viewing through my other instance account. Of course its hard to tell which instance is "to blame", but some things are weird.
That lemmy shitpost about the guy hating his wife never even showed up on Lemmy.world instance.
Yeah is lemmy.world having sync issues with us? I noticed there are days of posts missing in a community I moderate.
Something is definitely going on. I posted a bug to an app community on Lemmy.world and found it never showed up half a day later and may still not for all I know.
Lol yeah I'm realizing 196 is more popular than expected. Maybe there is a better way but at least this is a step in the right direction.
Do you have hide viewed posts turned on?
Is the missing content from lemmy.world users?
