Hi! I miss Apollo the same as you. So my question would be: Would it be possible to use my own API keys for Reddit? So the costs go directly to me instead.

-Updated 7/24/23:

I've seen many posts with people having issues with Apollo + Artemis/ApolloAPI, I've tried them both, but Artemis has imgur support which for me is better; I was able to build and .ipa and I have been using it without any issues.

Here's what I did:

  1. Download Apollo 1.15.11 .ipa, do not use versions higher than 1.15.11, they won't work. (Can't provide links, sorry.)
  2. Download Artemis 1.4 .deb.
  3. Install/Open Sideloadly, and use these options: (Make sure you use your own path to inject the .deb). Do not check Sideload Spoofer!
  4. Press start to build IPA, make sure you have deleted any other installation of Apollo, then sideload with your preferred signing method.
  5. Make sure to have your Reddit API key to enter upon first launch. You can also add your Imgur API key. You can change the API keys on Settings > Artemis in case you entered it wrong or want to change it.
  6. Everything should be working normally :)

This is the best "unofficial" version of Apollo.

Let me know if you run into any issues!

Thanks to \u\iCrazeiOS for Artemis!

So I saw in another conversation in this sub about good alternatives. I found a bit farther down a suggestion for Sink It For Reddit (has an anchor icon with red background) which skins your stock safari browser.

I’ve been playing with it for two days. It is by far the best implementation of Reddit since Apollo has gone away.

I was going to donate money but the creator asks to spread the word to support it. I actually pondered if I should share because I don’t want another thing to somehow get ruined if it gets too much attention.

If Christian doesn’t approve this being up please let me know.

I know this all seems like a lot, but take your time, it'll be quite easy imo

Do all this on your computer first

  1. Download Altstore “https://altstore.io/“ Do all the things the program says like downloading iCloud for Windows After it’s all installed. Open AltServer.exe again if isn’t already active (nothing will pop up, it’s active in the background) Plug your phone in to you computer. If on Windows click the “^ “in the bottom right corner of the computer, click the grey diamond, click ‘Install AltStore>Your iPhone name’, enter your Apple iD and Password, have your phone open, and AltStore will be installed on your iPhone.

2.Next, get a Reddit API token: Sign into your reddit account (on desktop) and go here: Click the are you a developer? create an app... button Fill in the fields name: Use whatever Choose Installed App description: blank space about url: blank space redirect uri: apollo://reddit-oauth create app After creating the app you’ll get a client identifier; it’ll be a bunch of random characters. Save this Client ID somewhere, we’re going to need it soon.

  1. Next, get an Imgur API Token: If you do not have an Imgur account, please create one:

After creating an account, create an app from the following page

Authorization type: is OK with "OAuth 2 authorization without a callback URL

Fill in the other fields to get a "Client ID".

You can also check the Client ID from the above link if you are logged in. Save This client ID somewhere, we'll need it later.

Next steps are all done on your iPhone:

Click the link above and download "Apollo_1.15.11_mod_0.0.5.ipa" to your Files on your iPhone

  1. Open AltStore app (you may have to go into settings to authorise the app, it'll tell you when you try to open) Go to the My Apps tab in AltStore, click the '+' button in the corner, click the .IPA you just downloaded.

Apollo should be installed now

Last step: Go to the settings tab in Apollo, click the blue banner at the bottom that says 'CustomAPI'

Paste the Reddit client ID I told you to save earlier in the top line and click "Set RedditClientID" Paste the ImgurID in the second line, click set 'ImgUrClientID'

Restart the app by going to the app switcher and swiping up on the App. Voila. You're good to go! Log-in and customise to your hearts content.

Thank you!

Hello, I'm relatively new to Reddit so I never got a chance to use Apollo when it was out and I currently just use the official Reddit app. Its not perfect and could definitely use some cleaning up. I was planning to make a Reddit app as a side project likely just for my personal use that would just be a simple app focused on the features I use the most.

In terms of experience I sometimes don't realize something is bad until its pointed out by others like I didn't realize how annoyed I was by all the recommended posts from different communities that I looked at once until i saw someone else complain about it.

So I'd love to hear what features ppl loved about Apollo and what ppl dislike in main Reddit app for some inspiration for my project.

PS: The title of this post is because I realize ppl have a lot of strong feelings about both so not sure if this is giving ppl a chance to vent but either way I welcome it.

Hey folks, it's been ages since I've seen any activity here, huh? Just dropping in to say that I terribly miss Apollo. The OEM Reddit app? Meh, it's nowhere near as impressive as what Apollo brings to the table. I still hold out hope for a glorious resurrection of Apollo. Any thoughts on that? Yoohoo, Christian? Care to share your two cents?

Imagine what the interactive widgets could have been like. Apollo already had the best widgets on iOS.

I’ve managed to get by without Apollo like everyone else for the past couple of months, but today it really set in.

Usually when a new iOS drops Apollo is one of the first apps I would check to see how they had implemented the new features.

No doubt there’d be some new cool iPadOS widgets for lock screen, live activities and maybe interactive widgets.

Oh well, just wanted to see how many others felt the same?

What a piece of shit. My battery used to drain like crazy with the official Reddit app. just sitting in my pocket my phone would drain 50% by lunch. Deleted it yesterday. I’m currently at 74% and I’m almost done working today. How can Reddit fuck up so badly?

I’ve been a Redditor for over a decade and this is the first time I’ve used the official app. How the fuck can it suck this bad? How is this even real!? My whole “home” feed is littered with random fucking city subreddits, because I’m subscribed to the city I live in and my home city. Just because I subscribe to r/Sacramento does not mean I alway want to see r/Portland and r/Fresno! Then I accidentally clicked one or two of these posts, so now I’m getting even more of them in my feed! I have at least ten city subreddits all over the western seaboard hidden/muted, and it keeps suggesting them to me. Then I made the mistake of interacting with a couple “am I the asshole” posts, so now I’m getting nonstop “AITA” “Am I Wrong” “Relationships” etc etc. Fuck this shit all to hell!

Has anyone found a workaround for this nonsense? Other than hiding every subreddit that I’m not interested it???

Deep in a thread but want to look up something unrelated in another thread in the meantime? “Fuck you, we’re going to give you a cinematic browsing experience by making the thread fullscreen and the tabs at the bottom disappear”

Searching for a thread on Google only for it to open the app and kick-out whatever you had open before with no ability to view it in any of the other three tabs at the bottom? “Too bad.”

In Apollo you could switch between the tabs on the bottom even if you had a thread open. Probably the feature I miss the most.

  1. sideload Apollo with injected code to allow custom API (jailbreak NOT required)

  2. "sink it for reddit" Safari extension that does multiple things a) blocks that stupid "download reddit app!" popup b) makes the website look very clean and useable. (100% free, updated often, give it a try)

  3. official reddit app sideloaded with modified version with ads removed. Can't link this, just google, it exists.

  4. work in progress app called "Winston" available only in TestFlight for now. This app uses a custom API but is in active development as opposed to Apollo which we all know had to be abandoned :( . Spez/reddit apparently threatened the dev with a takedown or whatever so the dev made the entire project open source and posted on GitHub as a middle finger to them. It's a nice app, but a work in progress for sure. I'm hoping the dev keeps working on it.

That's what I got. Just wanted to keep these options freshly posted on this sub for anyone who might stumble here.

I was able to successfully sideload the decrypted version of Apollo 1.15.11, however when I try and login, I keep getting redirected back to the same reddit authentication page. It seems like the redirect url of "apollo://reddit-oauth" isn't working.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?

Sideloaded the Apollo 1.15.11 IPA from ichitaso and am currently thrilled to death for the ability. Thanks to this comment from Kronusx12 for cluing me in.

Everything is great, however for some reason I'm unable to turn on the "New Comments Highlightifier" in the Settings. Flicking that to "on" crashes the app, every single time.

Is this a known issue? Or is it only me?

Highlighting the new comments was a feature I really enjoyed in the final version of Apollo I had via the regular app store so I'd love to get it back.

Main thing is I'm loving having the app again though.

So most of the guides I’m finding are from early July and most are different and some require an Apple dev account.

Now that it’s been a few months what’s the easiest way to sideload Apollo?

I have been jumping between Narwhal and the official Reddit app when browsing on my phone. While the Reddit app is full of bloat, Narwhal is missing a lot of ease of use features.

For example the search on Narwhal takes way too many steps. When you go to view comments, you can’t refresh by pulling down. Gestures are weird, the look and feel is a bit off, and many other interactions need multiple steps too.

Im finding myself dealing with the ads on the reddit app just to not have to deal with the extra clicks and interactions needed to do the things I want.

It really feels like Reddit made a deal with Narwhal because they knew they could compete while they killed Apollo (and other apps) that they can’t compete with in terms of the experience.
