I'm choosing a main browser, and I think that firefox with ublock and brave are probably equally good in terms of privacy and security, both of them look quite nice, and both are FOSS. The final thing that I'm considering is resource consumption. This reddit post shows that firefox is better than brave in benchmarks and ram consumption, but what about when firefox has ublock running and brave has all their preinstalled "extension" like brave rewards and wallet disabled (except brave shields is left enabled)?

Edit: some people are mentioning brave's cryptocurrency. I don't want to use that, and I would just turn it off and use brave as an improved chrome.

Previously there was a checkbox to toggle the title bar of firefox on the "Customise Toolbar..." page.

As you can see on my screenshot, this checkbox is no longer there.

Is that a bug i should report or did the checkbox move somewhere else ?

BTW, i'm running Firefox 115.0.2 for ubuntu.

Whenever I try to use threejs, and possibly other 3d webgl on Firefox, it will stutter and halt/freeze Firefox periodically, possibly when doing something intensive, but chromium never halts when doing the same thing.

I looked online, but results were inconclusive. I am using Manjaro Linux with a 1660 ti

#Fediverse peeps: @brave vs @firefox on countering #DRM…go! Gimme more than “Brave is still based on Chromium…”

I would like to make it really thin (and potentially rounded) I rememeber having something like that on my previous PC a while ago but I can't find the CSS for it. This customization also applied to all websites I visited (including iFrames). Would greatly appreciate any help!

Profile switching (lemmy.world)

I recently switched from brave(flatpack) to firefox(rpm) on fedora 38 running wayland

Is there a better way to switch between different profiles other than going to about:profiles and selecting the profile there

Does anyone have an idea why the ask where to put Downloads isn't working? Resolved

Would really like to jump ship from Brave back to Firefox, but the lack of ad blocking on iOS is somewhat of a blocker.

I’ve tried strict tracking protection and Firefox focus, but it doesn’t quite get the job done without filter lists.

Do we know of any solutions or projected feature releases that could improve the situation?

I've recently switched to Firefox and I feel like it's overall a better experience – I just really miss the convenience of installing Progressive Web Applications as a standalone apps, or creating shortcuts from existing websites.

The benefit of this is that you can open them as a separate window, keeping the viewport size and hiding the URL bar.

Is there any viable alternative to this in Firefox?

I've been using Consent-O-Matic which works pretty well but built into the browser? Wow.

I'm used to audio stopping as soon as I switch to another app. Is it possible to do the same with Firefox?

The audio keeps playing, so I have to go back to the app and manually stop the video.

Edit: just realized this also happens if I close the app (not just switching apps). Is this really the desired behavior? I want to give Firefox a shot but I may have to back to DuckDuckGo if this can't be changed :(

Thabks.

Is there any plugin that reports on or visualizes tracking cookies and the services that deploy them? I'm thinking about an educational tool.

On firefox for Android, if you installed "Google search fixer" addon, it causes browser to freeze when interacting with images in Google search. Someone please report this to mozilla. Using the android browser without that addon is almost impossible.

Hey so I've been having this issue where the Ticketmaster website (no matter which country) does not work on Firefox... It just shows that message in the image.

I've tried disabling my VPN, uBlockOrigin, Privacy Badger, Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection, but no avail. I had to use G**gl* Chr*m* the other day to buy a ticket. Weird enough, I just tried using Firefox in my work laptop and the site worked without issues, even with uBlockOrigin and Privacy Badger enabled.

Any tips that might solve this without resetting my whole browser to default settings? Thanks!

Maybe this is better asked elsewhere, but question basically in the title. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Mozilla VPN, and if so what they thought about it.

Is there a add-on or something to store my about:config settings in cloud so when i distrohop i dont have to set it manually?

We've all turned off trimURLs but what else is hiding in there?

I just moved to a new phone and I just want all tabs bookmarked. Opening all of them on desktop won't work because that option usually only loads the first hundred or so before locking up.

Recently made the switch to Mint from Windows. I am having a problem with FF though. Randomly but very frequently I see your most basic page load very slow if not at all. I have disabled hardware acceleration as some research has suggested but it still has the same issue. This happens on both my laptop and desktop.

Greetings. Today I discovered the world of theming Firefox through something called CSS. I went to the store page, and I wanted to add the Opera GX theme. Therefore, I first enabled the legacy toolkit config in the about:config page. Then, I went to the UserChrome.css file found on github for that theme and copied the raw data. Here is where things get interesting. I went to the about:profiles page and tried to open the root directory of the default profile, and it failed to open. I then tried searching for the directory in the file manager, it does not exist. No, it’s not hidden, it does not exist! The local directory, however, does exist, so I opened it and made the chrome folder and subsequently the userChrome.css file by using the text editor. I then restarted firefox, and…nothing happened. I cleared my browsing data and disabled all my of extensions, still nothing. I then had the idea of creating the root directory myself, so I created the necessary folders in the correct locations according to the about: profiles page, and then I moved the contents of the local directory to the root directory, and then restarted firefox. And…nothing happened. I was scratching my head at the point, so I tried searching the web to see if anyone else had a similar problem to mine, but I didn’t find anything relevant to my problem. Has anyone encountered a similar problem to mine? Is there anything that I’m missing? My OS is Ubuntu 23.04 and I’m using Firefox 115.0.2 (flatpak). I posted my problem on the Firefox CSS community, but the problem with it is that it's not active, so I hope the mods don't mind my post here. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you ever been in a situation where you'd needed to work on different/new machines on a daily basis and wished there was a way to have all your essential Firefox configurations/addons/bookmarks on those machines without connecting your precious Firefix Sync account with all those stored passwords and credit cards?

So I frequently install firefox on different desktop devices and it’s a hassle to set up and configure all the privacy settings and extensions every time I install it on a new device.

Obviously using a FF account and sync would be the easiest way to set it up quickly, however the I don’t want to keep my account logged in on every device since some of the devices aren’t mine.

Having said that, is it possible for me to create a new sync account and configure it the way I want to; then log in on a new install, sync the config, logout, but retain my configuration there; essentially using the account to bootstrap config new firefox installations?
