What if the space race was a tie?

Either both sides give up trying to go to the moon

Or both make it to the moon in a very close timeframe and have to deal with each other on the moon

I've read The Two Georges by Turtledove and Dreyfuss, I enjoyed that but I was thinking of something more along the lines of like his Southern Victory series in structure.
