Russian plywood manufacturers are drowning under war sanctions and have nowhere to hide. That is according to the Russian-based Lesprom, which reports that Russia—until 2022, among the top 3 markets for global plywood production —is now flooding Asia, Latin America, and Africa with an oversupply of cheap wood in response to ‘crippling’ EU sanctions.

“As it stands, (Russian) capacity stands at 5,669 thousand cubic metres, with demand (into these secondary markets) just 3,192 thousand cubic metres,” Lesproom said. “This (77%) imbalance has created a fiercely competitive landscape among lean exporters, crunching profit margins.”

What’s it like to be on the tools in your 50s & 60s? How does the body hold up after doing it for so long? I’ve been a carpenter since I was 18 and love it (38m) but do worry that my body will breakdown if i stay with it.

Im a small company (solo) and seem to be going through my longest phase of no work. I finished up my last job almost a month ago and I’ve only had two inquiries since who were both tire kickers.

How long have you gone between jobs unintentionally and what do you do with your time?

My son is 18 and in his second year as an apprentice. He needs new boots and I'd like to buy him a good pair for Christmas.

He works in Vancouver, BC, so climate is like that of the PNW in the US.

Requierements: -Waterproof -comfortable -warm but breathable -(Any other requirements I should consider?)

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure prices are all over the place, so I should say my budget is about $450 (CAD)

Thanks!

I just burned a rag with wood stain on it from earlier today. I usually just lay them out wait for them to dry but thought I’d try burning it and man I now understand how these things burns down peoples shops and houses. The rag lit way quicker than even gas or lighter fluid and one small rag burned for almost 10 minutes and hot enough to heat up an entire metal trash can.
