Original Title: According to riot the main issue with anticheat compatibility is: "You can freely manipulate the kernel, and there’s no user mode calls to attest that it’s even genuine". There will ever be a solution?

Steam downloads updates in the range of 1.2 to 1.8 GB for Satisfactory, Deadlock, and FFXIV every time I start my machine. I'm guessing this is some kind of shader thing, but I'm not sure. They aren't required updates, as I'm able to pause or cancel them and still play each of those games.

I'm running EndeavourOS. I'm hoping this is a known issue with a straightforward fix, but if not I'm happy to provide detailed system info.

As the title implies I switched back to Windows from Arch because I personally feel like I can't leave Apex (yet) or I'm not ready to...with more and more games dropping online multiplayer support I've increasingly felt the pressure... I used to play Fortnite too but I was willing to trade that for Apex at the very least..

In fact I would have never tried to daily Linux if it weren't for my access to Apex.

Using Linux (Debian and Arch) for the past two years, creating github repos and bash scripting so I can have a system up within half an hour completely ready to go with zero issues or bugs has made me fall in love with Linux.. I also grew extreamly accustomed to window managers.. I got to a spot I was so proud of as well.... I could continue to complain "there's no Linux support and the devs suck for it" but that's just leaving me bitter to be frank..

I really hope Linux continues to grow and I'll still be sticking around with my laptop and possibly duel booting arch to test things out.. But I'll just have to use this monopoly OS as my main gaming OS for the foreseeable.

I am a little concerned about privacy.. Used to limit the amount of telemetry Microsoft may be harvesting from me.. I'm also using chocolatey for the majority of my installed software which is nice as a Linux user.. Using alacritty as usual..

Going to eventually figure out and customize GlazeWM and Zebar so I can have a somewhat i3 alike experience but I know it doesn't hold a candle to Sway, i3 or Hyperland..

Anyway I know this will be downvoted but I just wanted to share my addiction.. Thanks for reading this far if you did!

I didn't know it would that good tbh, I'm having so much fun but the only thing frustrating is that monkey he is so fast wth is wrong with his speed is it meant to be that fast!? That just makes me more thankful for the developers and the community for making such a beautiful game. Can you recommend games that are FOSS and good like that one

The sub's crusade against technical aptitude has gotten more pathetic in recent years and now its incredibly ironic they call themselves a "master race" at all with the ignorance they promote. So much ignorance on Linux because the community has a phobia of anything that isnt plug and play or requires a sub-room temperature IQ to understand.

What used to be a place to appreciate gaming on custom builds has devolved to a sub of some of the most technologically illiterate users I have interacted with, with the most toxic crab in a bucket mentality. People post the most absurd lies there about daily driving Linux and everyone is too ignorant to test and see what is being spewed is nonsense.

Apologies for the rant, thanks for listening fellow penguin gamers 07.

Hello

A few months ago I came across this post regarding the discontinuation of SamRewritten, the original SAM on Linux. Since then I've started working on a new implementation that I've called Samira.

While it's still a work in progress, Samira has core features implemented allowing game search, achievement unlocking/locking, and statistics support. I'm a little nervous to share this but hopefully it's in a state where it can be of use to those interested.

Release can be found here.

Please note Steam flatpak is currently not supported but I'm hoping to tackle this issue in the near future. Any feedback is appreciated.

Head over to PCSX2 site for download.

3 months later after the initial 2.0.0 release, 2.2.0 has finally been released as the next stable build of PCSX2!

This release includes a whole flurry of new features, performance improvements and bug fixes! Which includes new debugger symbol importer, DEV9 fixes, a new controller types and so much more!

Here is a few highlight of the changes:

  • New emulated controller types (Negcon, Jogcon, Trance Vibrator, Gametrak, Densha De Go! Train controller, and more!)
  • Discord Rich Presence now shows your game icon and status! (RetroAchievements and its supported game are required.)
  • Audio support for EyeToy
  • New savestate compression type and ratio option
  • Cheats section now has a search bar for easier cheat lookups especially if you have a lot of entries
  • The Debugger can now reads .mdebug and .sndata section from the game's executable binary if it has them included. if said .mdebug section is available, the debugger can now display information about global variables, local variables and parameter variables, with data types. That means you can explore data structures in memory in a structured tree. (Pac-Man World 2 for example.)
  • Many DEV9 fixes which should benefits homebrews

NOTE:

We are currently working to get our Flathub integration back up. As of now it is stuck at v2.1.226. You will need to manually download the Flatpak from our GitHub release to update until further notice.

For complete list of changes, see the complete commit list.

If you're having trouble, try this:

  1. The game prefers fast storage, and may crash if it can't access files fast enough. This will likely be fixed by launch and seems to be a problem on Windows too. Install the beta to your home directory or an SSD.
  2. Try Proton Experimental if it crashes on launch.
  3. Disable FSR3 completely if the game is otherwise a blank black void.
  4. In graphics settings, once FSR3 is disabled, use TAA, disable motion blur, do not use "highest" textures or in general, go one step lower than whatever is recommended, set volumetrics to "Low" and variable rate shading to performance.
  5. VK3D_CONFIG=dxr

On KUbuntu with an AMD 7900GRE, I am now getting 60FPS solid. All other settings are high.

Hi everyone. I wanted to vent for a moment and draw some conclusions based on the current state of gaming on Linux, in particular the competitive multiplayer factor.

starting from the assumption that I play a lot of time on the PC, I am a manjaro user who has tried many distros and modified various aspects of the operating system.

I believe that all Linux players choose this platform because it is actually more fun to use, there is a greater connection between user and machine and it actually makes the PC more "unique", as well as, of course, all the advantage factors as they can be greater security, customization and respect for privacy.

Now, I'll be clear and concise: Doesn't it just piss you off how all of us are treated by corporations? I mean: Linux has all the potential to become a gaming system equal to or superior to Windows. literally, we are the "different" ones who play here for reasons that are evidently insufficient in the eyes of the companies.

I had about 600 hours on Apex, I've been playing since season 5, I think. and yet, does the way they treated us seem normal to you? are they lazy and therefore cut about 4% of the players due to an anti-chat problem, which in my opinion is unjustified? It's not Linux's fault, and it's not ours either. we are simply helpless.

from the point of view of single players, Linux is easily similar to Windows, in the sense that the support is practically equal to it: Linux is perfect for all those games without antiquity and the performance is, except in rare cases, excellent. yet, the only company willing to move away from windows and deepen support for us is valve.

not to underestimate their commitment, but do you really think we will be able to have compatibility for multiplayer games equal to at least 85% of windows?

do you really think that within a certain number of years we, understood as a community, will be considered a little more by companies?

forgive the outburst. I needed it.

Comment with what you think about this situation...

So, on the case it's not already been posted a million times already, for those looking for something similar to Apex then there's The Finals. It's EAC but unlike Apex is supported on Proton.

In the few hours I've played so far it's a blast and like Apex it's free to play with cosmetics etc...

Worth a play if you've not already given it a go, maybe I'll come across some of you in game.

Disclaimer : I'm not jurist, I use a good source from french jurist, customer association and economie.gouv.fr (french gouvernement). This apply only for EU users, for US player , you can check your state law.

Source :

Hi 👋 As the community see, many online games with anticheat working great, it's a proof that it's technically possible to fight cheat and keep Linux compatibility. But some games, like Apex Legends, chose to remove the Linux compatibility without delay. Since 2021, video games (physical and online) are under the EU warranty, named "Garantie légal de conformité" in french. To simplify , during the contract for a online game (from the start of playing to the servers shutdown), editor need to respect some rules, typically if the game working on Linux, he need to keep the compatibility. Only a economical or a technical impossibility can remove this rule. But as you said, anticheat work on Linux, and the game work great before on Linux , it's not a economical or technical issue.

In this case, editor have few option : restore the compatibility, provide compatible material to the player or refund the player to close the contract.

As EU Linux player, you can contact your costumer association to attack legally EA about that if EA support don't answer (typically a refund is enough legally).

For people who don't understand, is like if a car maker change the fuel entry at remote, force to you use only compatible fuel gas station, when the car working on all before. The car maker need to remake the compatibility, provide a adaptator or refund the car.

As I said in title, because lack of similar case, it's still "possibly" , not a sure win, but it's seem logic and cost nothing.

If you are afraid to try that, you can just call your customer association on social network (EU customer association already attack EA for in apps games, because of in game virtual currency), and more important, call your MEP (member of European parliament) for a law change : anticheat windows only create a monopoly, in violation of Digital Market Act, we need a law to force editor of software and games to provide a native version or a version working with a layer compatibility (like proton for Linux gaming, or Rosetta 2 for Mac ARM software) with all operating systems (and all hardware architecture in a second time). EA can **** on few millions Linux player, but not on a 700+ millions customer market 🤓

As a no Apex Legends player , I can't attack EA with my customer association, but I already contacted my MEP.

It's cost nothing, it's warranty nothing but it's your better luck to stop Linux ban wave.

Thanks for reading ❤️
