Hello i might have done something stupid. I was setting up remote acces to my server so i could more easily manage vms. Unfortunatly i messed up with the remote acces settings.

I followed this guide, to enable upnp remote acces, i opend port 443 (not recomnded but did it to test).

It now redirect all trafic via the remote acces url (localip++myunraid.net). but unfortunatly my server is not reachable via this. THe server is online (shwos up in unraid connect dashboard) and i can ssh in to it.

Can i disable remote management via terminal maybe?

Hi

I've been using SMB via WireGuard for a long time no issue. But recently I upgraded from 6.11 to 6.12.4 and now it no longer works. Nothing myside has changed, but I can no longer access the SMB share. I can still access the Unraid UI via the browser on 10.253.0.1.

Anyone have any ideas? The SMB is enabled and the share is private with r/w access to my user.

Hi all, I just wanted to ask everyone here if these HDD temps are decent on my Unraid Server. I am currently using the CSE-846 chassy and using all drive bays. Right now, I'm using 3x120mm Midfans and using the stock 80mm Rear Fans. The Rear Fans are running at 5v to make it quiet. Obviously if I make the Rear Fans go any higher, the AVG temp will shoot down.

That said, at night, it gets between 32-33c, and during the day, usually 34-36c. Thoughts?

So I bought a 18TB to replace my 3TB disk and started the data rebuild. After about 18 hours the server is completely unresponsive. I can't access the web UI, ssh or even get a ping response from the server. I can't upload my diagnostics now because I am at work and I need to manually power off the system but this is the second time this has occurred in a row. The data rebuild just wont finish and crashes the server around the same time period. Has anyone encountered this before? It's on 6.12.4

I'm going to be moving my components to a new case and wanted to know if I needed to plug my hard drives into the exact same SATA ports or will unraid know that they go in the array if they don't end up in the same ports they came from.

one of my cache nvme drives started reporting btrfs errors and SMART media errors, so I've replaced it successfully, BUT I hate waste and can't help but wonder if there is some use for it ... somewhere!

the answer might be obvious here ... RMA or electronic recycle.

even if not for Unraid, any other uses for a degrading nvme drives worth considering? (open to ideas that include a solder kit, custom electronics, fun experiments, etc ...)

Hello,

Okay, so I've been running unraid now for the last 4 years. I'm pretty happy with it as my file server. I won't say I'm comfy enough to move to ZFS yet, but I did want to move to a bigger case that would allow me to get close to the max array size allowable. Does anyone know of any good cases that can fill this requirement?

I just finished setting up my shiny new server and have begun transferring all the data to my new array from my old Windows server.

So far I've been able to get things functionally back to where I need them, but one thing I was easily able to do in Windows and is giving me pause in unRAID is sending qBit through a VPN.

On Windows I used PIA with a killswitch and tunnels so everything except certain apps was protected and obfuscated, but I can't seem to find info on how I would do this with unRAID.

The closest I've seen are versions of the qBit docker that say they include VPN support, but I don't know if they support PIA and, if not, which ones they do support.

TL;DR: how do I add a VPN to just my qBit docker and which one should I use? Please eli5!

I recently updated Tdarr after not using it for a few months and now even though I have updated the node on my windows PC (nvidia 1080), I don't see any transcoding happening. I have let Tdarr scan overnight and came back to nothing being transcoded even though I had it working perfectly last time I used it.

I have attached a screenshot of what is happening, items are being scanned and put into staging, but there is no activity on my windows PC to suggest GPU use. Is there something in the new update I need to change?

In Unraid's dashboard, it appears the main load is on the CPU cores, but the HTs are showing very little load. Is this normal?

Hoping some of you with more experience with Unraid can point me in the right direction. I'm looking for an Intel Micro ATX motherboard that supports ECC, has a PCIe x16 slot for a graphics card, a PCIe x8 slot for a RAID card, and doesn't have IPMI that's going to disable access to QuickSync.

It seems it's hard to check all of those boxes. Fairly new to Unraid and currently have an Intel S1200RP_SE build that's running great, but the on board IPMI makes it so that QuickSync isn't available in Unraid, which isn't something I completely understand but came across in another thread while troubleshooting. I think there's a couple Intel chipsets that are geared toward workstations that support ECC without IPMI? Trying to find some part numbers that others have had success with.

I'm using an Nvidia T400 for Plex transcoding, which is working great, but I have another box dedicated to Blue Iris right now that I'd like to virtualize leveraging QuickSync.

Thanks for the help.

Hello

I bought the following switch

and a RJ45 transceiver -

I want to buy a 10gb network card that it low'ish' power, doesnt get as hot as a furnace and makes use of the 10gb SFP uplink port on my switch. I heard many good things about mellanox connectx cards but not really sure what would be a good cheap option for me.

The card should be PCIe x4 (although it's an open slot so can take an x8+) that's the slot I have spare on my board. I could rejig my layout to accomodate an x8/x16 if x4 wont cut it if I really have to. It should also be able to display it's temperature in linux/sensors so I can keep check on it.

Recommendations please.

Thanks.

Morning!I've noticed for half a year now, that my unRAID server is grabbing over the time more and more public IPv6 addresses from my ISP. I'm always updating with a week delay to the latest unRAID version and can't imagine a false setting in my router.Does anyone has an advice? I have the bad feeling that this is what makes my server slower within a few weeks of uptime and results in a crashing nginx and later on sshd ..

Hi all,

I noticed that I wasn't getting close to 1 Gbps on my original network and decided to see if it was my gigabit switch. Now that I'm running full 2.5 Gbps, I'm still not getting anywhere near 2.5 Gbps - wondering if you have any ideas?

On gigabit, was getting 84 MBps (672 Mbps)

On 2.5 GbE, am getting 167 MBps (1336 Mbps)

Unraid - Intel I219 2.5Gbps

PC - Realtek 2.5 Gbps

Switch - Netgear MS305 2.5 Gbps

Cables - Cat6A

PC < -> Switch < - > Unraid

Cache = 2x 2TB NVMe (AData PCIe3) in RAID0

Parity= 2x14TB WD Red

Data = 14TB WD Reds

Unraid 6.12.3

I am considering setting up spin down for my unraid server to save considerable energy and if it is worth it or not, and looking to see what kind of downsides there are in 2023.

The main use of the spinning drives is plex. I have a handful of users my family and some friends.

I have 13 HDD in the array and 2 parity, most of my drives are 10tb, the newer ones obviously I'm going higher capacity. Parity are 18tb. I use a DS4243 connected to my server to store all the drives.

What kind of impact will spin down have on things like SABNZB or most importantly Plex? Most of my other services live entirely on the cache with no array involvement. What will browsing Plex for me or a user do, spin up a drive as that file is played, or spin them ALL up when simply browsing the library and playing anything? If any plex activity spins them all up vs just the needed drive is there any way around that? What kind of slowdowns will we experience when the drives are spun down and we want to use plex?

I titled mine to help with google searches, I am currently using a "ACTIMED PCIE SATA Card 10 Port". Unraid was as stable as a linux system should be until I started connecting to it. after 3 crashes I am now mirroring my logs to a share. I have read that bad HBAs can cause crashes, whats some good ones for unraid.

Has anyone ever setup an old mini Mac as a bridge between an iPhone and unraid?? I’ve never used an Apple computer so I’m not even sure if this will work, but for a couple hundred bucks, if it works I’d do it!!

What I’m thinking would be to set the mini Mac up on my tv, then my thought is back my phone up to the mini, then back the mini up with unraid. I’m looking for a simple way for my wife to back up here photos to unraid without using the cloud or something like PhotoSync.

So I have many many Python scripts. Python is my scripting language of choice for the builtins, ease of logging, and the simplicity of getting something working. The two areas where I'm feeling growing pains are third-party Python dependencies and each of these scripts depending on common utilities I've written to ease things like getting parity status, sending unRAID notifications, etc..

I host all my scripts in GitHub and in my unRAID user script, I usually do a wget https:///archive/main.zip to pull down the main branch and call my main.py. Using PyPi to me is overkill. I don't feel good about abusing that to host my personal server scripts just to simplify things with pip. I also don't like the idea of messing with pip directly in unRAID, feels cleaner if the scripts are self-contained by deploying them using GitHub Actions and Python's zippapp.

So, how do you handle these types of things with your Python scripts?

I'd like to replace my current build with a modern case with hot swappable bays but having a hard time finding one. I found a mid tower but it looked a little tight.

Basically I think fucked up. I formatted my 14tb btrfs drive to zfs and then started the array thinking it was going to rebuild from my parity, but instead it just wiped the drive within the array?

Now it just says the drive is empty.

I then tried to unassign it, start the array, stop the array, re-assign it, start the array and it started rebuilding from parity... rebuilding the empty drive.

I have the important stuff backed up and I can restore that, but I just last week deleted my backup of my media files on google drive because of the new TOS :')

I'm running testdisk now to see if there's any hope but...

I've been progressively moving my data off my main pool to either NVME based storage for smaller, IO sensetive data sets or to large ZFS arrays to increase speed and performance, with my largest data set (150TB) moved to a new ZFS pool over the last fortnight I'm looking at what's left on the main array and it could all be stored elsewhere or just cleaned up, so i was curious if i even need a "main array..."
